Feels like a fit.
It definitely is, Lester is from my hometown and he'll have success at Iowa and recruiting in the Midwest. His offenses at WMU were all pretty good besides his final year

Yeah, I am very concerned about this one.

MF on power hour this week said Golden was due to have surgery and with the recovery time involved he might not be available to interview or make a move this offseason so I guess we will see. Al Washington being an alum could have a chance of being interviewed too

Why would Al Golden take the BC job? He’s about to make 2.5m as a DC with a head coach who takes a lot of pressure off recruiting wise. He’s gotta a really sweet gig at ND. If they lose him it’s to the NFL

He mightn’t choose that but you’d have to think BC would court him

It wouldn't surprise me if Golden is BC's first call.

Don't know if he'd have any interest, but they would be absolutely foolish not to at least call and see.

It will all come down to whether Golden wants to be a college coach again. BC is a good culturally fit for him, he has ties to the Northeast, and he's shown he deserves at least a look.

Hafley's salary was just over $3 million last year, so almost certainly be getting a raise, too.

Yep. BC is exactly the sort of school that hires Al Golden.
It's a tough job though. The fact that a smart young(ish) coach would simply bail for a coordinator job in the NFL is telling. They are not enough invested in football to succeed in this era, not a great recruiting footprint (and one that's increasingly being plucked for its best by ND and Michigan) and if/when the ACC breaks up they could be left without a chair.
Whether Golden wants to go there would be an interesting question.

Very much out of nowhere for sure.

Green Bay interviewed Brandon Staley and it ended up with "Fuck it, who is the head coach at Boston College. Let's hire him instead."

LOL

Unfortunately, we're going to see more and more high quality coaches leaving college for NFL. Until college football puts someone in charge, revamps the calendar, and puts enforceable regulations around NIL and transfer portal, we shouldn't be surprised about moves like this. If the money is comparable, the quality of life for NFL coaches is a joyride compared to college.

100% agreed. I think conference realignment also has to be factored into this too, especially with Boston College being in the ACC, which could be the next one to see a major shift.

It is important to note in this case that Hafley coached in the NFL prior to being at Ohio State and Boston College. At 44 years old you have to wonder if this is going to be it for him. Just depends on which way the wind and paycheck blows. College or NFL, these guys see them as nothing more than jobs. Their devotion isn't anywhere near that of the fans.

"He wants to go coach football again in a league that is all about football," a source told ESPN. "College coaching has become fundraising, NIL and recruiting your own team and transfers. There's no time to coach football anymore.”

The man had to deal with 5 Star Phil, do you blame him?

I appreciate to some degree that the SEC is so blatant about the lack of fucks to give. The conference employees Freeze, Durkin, and Petrino, not even taking into account the basketball sliminess with the likes of Chris Beard.
The SEC never over thought it during the shift to "holier than thou" culture.

The football team exists to play football, not hire people based on their personal life. And it's mirco example of why they win and have the best product out there, depth of rivalries, packed stadiums, and the focus of ever CFB fan out there.

He went 14-22 in three seasons at SMU and parlayed that into the Arkansas job. THAT was a total disaster for him and it feels like his career crashed as fast as it ascended. I Don't know the backstory there, but how did he come to land that Arkansas job?

This gets him back on track again I suppose. He was coaching HS again in 2021 and has been an analyst for the last two years.

Maybe he realized he only had 1 year left at BC anyways? But I don't remember the last time a P5 head coach made the transition to become a coordinator, even for the NFL

The opportunity has to present itself. For Hafley it did and he bailed.

I think it is for the reasons mentioned already. He's started off in college, then the NFL, then back in college in time for the shit to hit the fan, the Packers came calling and he's out.

Bill O'Brien could do really well at BC, if he's interested. Have no idea if he wants to go back to college, though.
