Having read this article, I get the impression that Womack is the heavy favorite. Not much more than a little blurb about Taylor.

Shane Beamer (Frank's son) named head coach at South Carolina over the weekend. Probably a pretty good hire.

Interesting.... I wonder how well he will be able to compete for recruits. USC has gets whats left over from the carcass after UGA, Clemson, FL, and Tenn have finished eating.

Good hire for USC I think, not necessarily a good choice though for Beamer. If I were him I'd have waited it out at OU to eventually replace Riley when he jumps to the league.

Well, I think the USC fans have a higher opinion of their program than what it really is. I think he can get them to 8 or 9 wins a season and that is what they're expectations should be. Them expecting to be consistently in the SEC East title race is ridiculous, most USC fans wanted a coach that would achieve that and that is unrealistic - IMO.

Can't be easy having Clemson riding high, besides being an afterthought within their SEC division. Not sure who could salvage them.

It's not any different of a tone that what we've heard over the years. Coaches can do as they please and the players are just widgets on a piece of paper.

I almost always route for the SEC teams to fail, but a strong USC would be a nice counterbalance to Clemson.

That’s a lot of money, but does Kelly want to start over and put out another fire at this point in his career? UT is going to need a lot of cultural change to become a consistent contender again. Kelly is going to have to decide if he has the stomach for driving major change with crazy high expectations.

A lot of articles just popped up about Brian Kelly to the NFL, i think most are just smoke or someone throwing a thought out just so that they can come back later and say "i was first back in December to report Kelly's interest in the NFL". Personally, i dont think there is any chance Brian Kelly leaves ND for another college. Honestly, if he wins it all this year I wouldnt mind seeing him go to the NFL. I wouldn't want to lose him, but I think he could be very successful in the NFL with a more level playing field.

Seriously, I'm concerned that Texas makes a run at Brian Kelly.

I don't think it would succeed, but...

I hope they back up a truck. Not because I want him to leave, it's because I'd like to see ND give him a big raise, along with the assistants.

Agreed.

I think you may be the only person saying this.

I have a few SC buds, and they like it. Not over the moon happy, but they recognize he has a pretty interesting resume. Son of great coach. Good at recruiting and very likeable. Coached both sides of the ball, and brings the OK offense. Add in the SC history.

Is there something specific that he's getting dinged for?

Agree. I don't think ND lets it become about money. I also don't think BK would want go into a situation of what is pretty close to an overhaul/rebuild, over a minimum raise. IMO, if he just wanted a challenge and raise, he'd go to the NFL.

Please no. He's a truly bright spot who has come in and killed it. He's got a great resume, great recruiter, so I know it won't be long before he gets poached, but really would love a couple more years. Hard to really promote him since Tommy is OC, but I hope they (ND) at least makes it hard financially for him to consider a small team HC or OC job.

I didn't think this was bad at all. It's a little non-coach speak, but it's factual.

There are three things that are causing some angst with USC fans:

No head coaching experience
He is not Billy Napier
He is not Jamey Chadwell

Utah State looks to be filled as they take Arkansas State's Blake Anderson.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30491844/sources-utah-state-hire-arkansas-state-football-coach-blake-anderson

ASU does a pretty good job of grabbing up and comers, will be interesting to see which direction they go.

They’ve had a nice run. Last four have moved on to better jobs:

Hugh Freeze
Gus Malzahn
Bryan Harsin
Blake Anderson

Before that it ended w/ pink slips and most the names, if not all; are forgettable unless you go back to their Div I-AA days when Larry Lacewell was HC.

Welp, an opening in Savannah Youth if anyone is looking for a job.

Given that Utah and BYU are respectable, the Aggie fans have no reason to believe that they shouldn’t field a decent team, too.

Matt Wells gave them a taste. That program has recently employed Josh Heupel, Dave Aranda and Todd Orlando, too.

Isn't this where the "kids are soft today" and "cancel culture" brigades are supposed to carry water for this guy? Does anyone here believe this was the first time this individual did this?

A coach shouldn't behave this way on an NFL sideline let alone with children. Disgusting.

Wut... nobody is going to carry water for this guy. And kids being soft or not soft has zero to do with this.

I had a coach in HS that loved to hit helmets and twist face masks. It was not nearly as bad as this dude hammering grade schoolers with hay makers.

Of course they did. This crap is so counter productive.

Watched FNT religiously. My wife hated how those coaches acted to the point of being uncomfortable and wasn't able to watch knowing it was a reality based show.

Imagine was practice is like when less people and phone cameras are around.

The slow but steady professionalization of youth and high school sports is disgusting. One of the reasons I stopped coaching was the overly pervasive and stupid idea that the most important thing even at the youth level was “winning”.

I agree winning isn't everything, especially at the youth level. But the whole participation trophy thing is a bit silly. Sports is about a lot of things, and part of it is learning to compete, being disciplined, working hard, etc., but it's all an effort to "win". There are certainly other learnings and benefits, but diminish the "winning" element, and that takes away motivation and a lot of things that are naturally embedded. My HS days 30+ years ago was hyper competitive even back then. Not professionalized so to speak, but winning was absolutely the clear goal. But we did it right.

None of the above is suggesting something like I posted should ever happen. That dude needs to get a big jail cell girl friend.

Youth football can be really scary because the men who often want to volunteer their time for it can be extremely questionable. Often times they are trying to relive a part of their life with football.

And often times people stuck trying to relive parts of their past are a bit unstable.

Even as a football coach I'm against tackle football until at least fifth grade.

I agree with Beau on his general assessment. I coach Pop Warner in Florida and have coached my sons team since he was 6yrs old and though there are many great people involved in Pop Warner, there are plenty of the character that Beau described. I will not allow my son to be on a team I am not coaching because of this...as he gets older I will let him move on to other coaches but not as of now (he’s 10). One thing I will say is that the Pop Warner League, for all its faults, seems to do a decent job overseeing the coaches. Now we also do spring 8 on 8 tackle football down here in Florida thru another org and that behavior on the video, though terrible, isn’t incredibly shocking or surprising as I could totally see some of the teams we compete against behaving damn close to how this a—hole acted.
