More and more talk of Hermann being replaced in these parts, including Dallas Morning News. The husband of a co-worker is a Longhorn recruiting writer. He has said all year that there was little enthusiasm amongst high schools coaches for Hermann and Longhorns, and he fully expects Hermann to be replaced. Besides their onfield issues, Horns have also recently lost highly rated recruits, including #1 QB who decommitted and is now committed to tOSU.

Meyer is the the one and only. If he doesn't come, they'll ride it out with Hermann.

he was who i had wanted ND interview for the spot...but Reesus has risen

He's been a key to Fritz getting things moving at Tulane. You can do worse than Southern Miss. He has a decent shot at winning there and flipping it to a P5 gig.

Mack Brown really did a great job with networking the HS in Texas when it came to recruiting. It is one of the reasons why he got his win percentage up near Darrell Royal's. They got offers out and locked up verbals early before their opening kickoff. It was a different system than most, but it worked.

I don't know where else they can go other than Meyer at this point. Fickell and Campbell are midwestern guys. It doesn't mean they can't do well in Texas, but it's kind of a special job when it comes to the landscape of the program as it relates to recruiting and off the field stuff. Brown was from Tennessee and never coached in Texas prior to getting the job in Austin, but he's a different personality to Fick and Campbell, probably closer to Meyer in that respect.

Who is really "ready" for this job? Meyer seems to have found a niche for himself. Followed Zook after Spurrier. Followed Tressel at Ohio State. He knows what to do at these kinds of programs. Hiring him probably means a lot less Texas talent for OU and TAMU. They'd be back before long.

Agree.

And anyone who thinks that $$ will be an issue to pay off Hermann and reel in Meyer doesn't understand Texas football and the amount of $$ that will be pumped out of the ground to land Meyer if he's game.

I know Hermann was on Meyer’s staff but aren’t they on the outs now?

Fritz will reportedly naming Chip Long to run his offense now.

Could you see Chip taking any ND players as transfers come the spring?

Since it’s rumored that many players were planning a mutiny of Chip was retained, I’d guess no.

he must have some underclassmen who he recruited who probably liked him though. I will throw one out there - Lawrence Keys, he's from New Orleans and could probably play more @ Tulane than he ever will at ND.

247 reporting Urban has told Texas he is not interested in returning to coaching. If you have a minute, their boards are in complete meltdown.

Seriously, I'm concerned that Texas makes a run at Brian Kelly.

I don't think it would succeed, but...

Shane Beamer (Frank's son) named head coach at South Carolina over the weekend. Probably a pretty good hire.

I think you may be the only person saying this.

Well, I think the USC fans have a higher opinion of their program than what it really is. I think he can get them to 8 or 9 wins a season and that is what they're expectations should be. Them expecting to be consistently in the SEC East title race is ridiculous, most USC fans wanted a coach that would achieve that and that is unrealistic - IMO.

I feel like USC is like UM (recently). Down, has had a few decent years in the past 15ish, but the rise of their biggest rival (OSU, Clemson) and their inability to beat them has made it feel much worse.

I liken it to Tommy Rees being named OC. He couldn’t have gotten an OC job anywhere other than ND for obvious reasons and it worked to his advantage as he is thriving. Same with Beamer. Reportedly, Carolina players & admin loved Beamer. Great recruiter & he’s bringing the OU offense with him. It’s definitely not unanimous agreement on his hire but neither was Rees when he was named OC.

For Beamer, it’s perfect b/c I don’t think he wants to go to VT and try to fill his father’s shoes. Plus, he was part of the Spurrier regime that brought them multiple 11-win seasons and some premium recruits like Clowney, Jeffrey, etc.

Yep, alot of posters are asking for it. Give him the 10 million? Money talks...

That’s a lot of money, but does Kelly want to start over and put out another fire at this point in his career? UT is going to need a lot of cultural change to become a consistent contender again. Kelly is going to have to decide if he has the stomach for driving major change with crazy high expectations.

Hello.

Their last three hires were an ND legend, a Florida legend and a Florida failure. They just hired a 43 year old who learned from some good coaches in the last twenty years leading up to this opportunity.

It's an outside the box hire and goes completely against their previous hiring practices.

I like it.

Could very well be, but does it matter?

Good hire.

Not at all. I had never heard that until now so I was curious what happened. Moot point, Urban smartly declined any interest. If he truly does have health issues, having the BoT breathing down your neck at every turn can’t help the situation.
