Listening to Clay Travis last night, he mentioned some interesting moves that may happen.

Sumlin is likely out at A&M regardless of how he finishes.

If Gus Malzhan fails to beat Bama and win the conference, look for him to end up at Arkansas.

With Mora out, UCLA may go after Chip Kelly, who it appears to be in serious discussions with Florida.

Jimbo Fisher is probably leaving FSU after this year. Possible landing spot A&M or Auburn (if it opens up). Leaving because of a nasty divorce and wants to put some distance between him and the ex.

Wow, wonder what direction FSU would take. The state of Florida getting real interesting again.

Clay Travis is a racist POS and should never be listened to or discussed.

The problem with that last statement his he's very close to his sons, one of whom has a rare blood disorder, and is said to want to stay close to them. I'd say the only job he would consider might be Auburn since it's the closest to Tallahassee. Only about a three hour drive.

I could see Jimbo at Auburn or Florida (if Chip goes to UCLA).

Is it because he believes in a) boobs, b) likes pudding, c) worked for Fox, or d)against cleansing all historical things relevant to the confederate side of the Civil War at his Alma Mater? or e) all the above?

That would be interesting. Might be a good thing. It would give our crazy fan base the perfect opportunity to prove themselves right or wrong about BK, the academic challenges of ND, and so many other topics we debate over and over again.

Yeah, I'm good with it. I'd rather see him leave rather than get fired. But, don't love the candidates we know (or assume) will be available.

Anyone dialed into the NFL? Any chance on Bill O'Brian or Harbaugh?

What? We do not want Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame - after a 9 or 10 win season - for another college program. Talk about cementing the perception of Notre Dame as a second-tier job? That'd do it right quick.

And, aside from Chip Kelly and probably Jimbo Fisher (neither of whom are coming), there's no one on the market who's better than BK. You don't let Kelly walk to Florida State (who, BTW, we play next year) to replace him with Scott Frost (if you're lucky).

Either way - admittedly I don't know much about his personal situation - Fisher would seem to be nuts to leave FSU. It's a way better job than Auburn.

I was taking a more human approach to it. I'm not a Kelly fan. But he's done some good things. Shaking hands and moving on would be a good thing for both sides ( assuming there is a quality candidate to get)

This is how I see it. Lose this weekend he can move on and keep his head up.

win and get bent over by Ohio State again in a NY6 fire him at half time.

I just don't think any NFL guy would want to come to ND unless they truly loved the school and wanted to come and stay due to that love. Our experience with CW might have opened eyes up both on ND's side, and to potential NFL guys.

If BK were to leave and have more success at FSU, what would that say to about ND to other potential coaches? Scary thought. If he went and had less success, what would that say about ND, or FSU.... It would be interesting.

I'm still in the camp that our best strategy is to go after the rock star up and comers. I really wished we would have taken a chance on Fleck. I know Minn has not been world beaters this year, but they have been competitive. 4 of their 6 losses have been on the road, and 3 of 6 have been by 7pts or less (including MichSt and @Iowa). They are getting better IMHO.

Very scary. Has anyone ever left ND and had major success afterwards? I know Lou did ok at South Carolina but everyone else has pretty well sucked it up, right?

Lou did fine when he left ND, but was past his prime by that time. He turned around a shitty program and had pretty damn good seasons his second and third seasons (arguably SC's two biggest bowl wins two years straight over tOSU). Spurrier came after Lou and did well in the second half of his tenure, but stumbled late which led to his resignation.

BD, TW, and CW all did crappy when they left (I don't think they ever truly good HC's).

To be fair Dodd said in his article Dan Mullen would be the perfect choice for FSU if Fisher were to leave. He said he was just speculating on Kelly. Kelly isn't going anywhere.

Reps! totally forgot about those 5 days.

I actually wished he would have worked out.
He went on to do very well at UCF without a lot of resources.

I wasn't paying attention to the program then, but according to an ISD post last year, O'Leary was getting a very good staff put together and would've torn up the recruiting trail.

My dad grew up with George. Broke his heart the way that went down. I actually think he would have done a great job here as well.

I was more excited about him than any other coach hire in my adult life. Wasn't really tuned in during the Devine, Faust, and Holtz hiring. Loved Lou though. Still my favorite coach.

Gave me a sad/sick feeling too.

I agree BK eventually leaving on good terms would be a good thing. I just think him leaving Notre Dame directly for another elite college football job (be it FSU or USC or whatever) after a successful season would send a very bad message about Notre Dame relative to other elite programs. We're not a steppingstone, and we shouldn't be the kind of place our best coach in 20 years feels compelled to flee. But one or the other is how it would look to a lot of people.

Can you imagine ND hiring a HS coach in this day and age? I remember when we hired Faust and I thought it was a great, bold move. That sure didn't work.
