We don't get many chances to purely take joy in something in college football ... but this is one.

A (for me) VERY liked and respected ND coach goes out there and brings an impossible-to-succeed program to the place where it might beat anyone. AND it beats ALABAMA! Glory to you, Clark Lea!! Win all the rest of them (unless you meet us, of course.)

Was it a similar offense as North Illinois ?
Kind of?

They ran the ball 54 times. They only got 3.1 YPC as a team, and their lead rusher in terms of yards was at 3.0 YPC. They also rand a lot of Flood concepts with high/low reads for Pavia after a play action.

Beyond happy for him and for that school. That's a great win, and it is the one upset everyone is now going to talk about

He was probably an eyelash away from getting fired after last season. Now, they should consider making a statue for him.

Is that true? I've not kept up with Vandy too much but I felt like he was pretty safe in that position for a long time given Vandy's need for a rebuild/lack of historical success and his alumni status. Glad he bought himself more time. I can't imagine who they would realistically get that would be better.

He went 2-10/0-8 in year three. There had to be some consideration.

They lost to Georgia State a few weeks ago. It couldn't have been good.

They're known for baseball and women's bowling. Nobody realized it.

That's what makes Saturday so awesome.

I have nothing to back it up, just assumed, as usual. Vandy is not used to winning 2 games a year (checks notes), nevermind.

I think he has to get them back to a bowl, they haven't been to one since 2018 and they've only been to 5 going back to 2005. They should have a win in their next game against Testicle Tech, but after that to get to 6 wins they'll need to beat either Texas (unlikely), Auburn, South Carolina, LSU (unlikely), or Tennessee (also unlikely). Auburn is the best bet, but not a gimmie.

I imagine he gets looks from other teams this offseason. Think he'll pursue any, or likely to stay at his alma mater?

I'm not sure if I'm making this up but I feel like it has been reported he is not an upward mobility kind of guy. Really happy to be at Vanderbilt coaching those kinds of kids. If ND came calling when Freeman goes to the Bears he could maybe jump ship.

This is the speculation by reporters. Basically a Vanderbilt lifer potential. Very into academics, student athletes etc. It's a perfect fit.

Lea has been relatively successful too without really changing recruiting. Other than a bad class in 2017 before he got there, Vandy is always in the 40-50 range in the Team Rankings. Lea had one class a few years ago that was in the upper 30s, but nothing better.
