Quick back story. I grew up in the islands. My uncle was a huge Cubs and ND fan. We had WGN so basically that's all the teams we got to watch. So that's how I became a ND fan.

Love this board because of all of the guys that's been watching ND for decades. Love reading about their experiences and memories. So I figured I'd ask.

If you guys can pick your starting 22. From any Era? Who would they be?

Don't go too far back guys. I'm still trying to catch up. Lol.

Can’t argue with that, except I’d put The Shark in place of Stovall.

This was pretty much mine… I think I’m taking Fuller over Stovall though. Very close between them and Shark

I'd agree with a lot of those. But a few adds…

CB - Shane Walton
CB - Julian Love
S - Kyle Hamilton
S - Harrison Smith (But Zibby returns punts)

I honestly think we'd have to do a break down by era.

Does any one really take Kyren over Bettis, Watters, Pinkett?

Quinn or Clausen over Theisman Montana or Rice?

Yeah. I mean, there’s one team for the 2000s, another for the 80s/90s, another for the years prior.

Disappointed.

Thought this was about actual fighting, and wanted to end the thread with a Tate Nichols reference.

Just for OLine of the 2010s, I would say if we just took 5 best regardless of the position they played at the time I’d have
Stanley-Q-Hainsey-Martin-McGlinchey

Just a quick run through on the overlooked Rob Hainsey:
2017-Split time with Tommy Kraemer to start at RT as a true freshman on a Joe Moore Winning line
2018-Playoffs
2019-Captain, injured in November. ND OL of the Year
2020-Captain, playoffs, Joe Moore finalist

Not a bad 4 years

Yeah, you have to do it by era, but most lists are going to be players we have seen play. Guys like Alan Page etc. are hard to beat but obviously a different era. I would definitely put Tim Brown on the list too.

I watched the teams of the 40s, 50s, and 60s ---you can guess what I think about these lists.
I pause to "stroke my chin" at names like ZMart, Teo, Harrison Smith... maybe some of the receivers.
Otherwise, we have many who are "The Stuff of Legends." .... Montana, Page, Hart, Lattner, Buoniconti, .....................
ex. There was a guy who played in the same backfield with Jerome Bettis who was better; almost no one today knows his name.

Who would your all time ND OLine be, OMM?

All-time ND OLine? Kind of a silly activity. I'll put ten guys on the page just to have the fun of it.
I don't want to engage in some goofy arguments defending these; if you don't like them, just scream invectives in my direction.
Also, I'll have to play a bit loose with positions. Again no defense for this.

One Tackle: Moose Krause and George Kunz
One Tackle: George Connor and Bill Fischer
One Guard: Zack Martin and Aaron Taylor
One Guard: Bob Kuechenberg and Quentin Nelson
Center: Jerry Groom and Jeff Faine.

In my era We had many great OLinemen: My class' two tackles were Joe Carollo and Bob Bill.
Anyone would have killed for them. The pros (Los Angeles and NYGiants) loved both of them.
Bill got hurt; Carollo did not and started about eight years as one of the NFLs unsung studs.
I mention this because it demonstrates that we have had SO MANY great players that "best"
teams are a absurd joke. Who can honestly say that any of our tackles was "greater" than Carollo?
... and nobody remembers him.

OMM, would you put Bob Crable on your list?

What would be really interesting is to put a list of players by position on a list and due an all star type vote.

Btw, who wouldn’t want Tom Gatewood or Jack Snow on your team at WR or Gerry Dinardo or Steve Sylvester on the OL.

We have had some fantastic Linebackers. If we were reduced to three it would be outrageous.
Teo made a huge difference in lots of ways. I could never deny Nick Buoniconti. Jim Lynch was All-World.
But Crable ... IMPOSSIBLE STATISTICS. You'd have to find a way to put him on.
