They traded their original 2nd round pick for Claypool
I just saw this confirmed. There were reports it was the one they just got.

So they get the Ravens' second rounder instead, a WR with 1.5 years on his contract and they hijack Claypool from the Packers. And get Fields some help.

I don't know that there should be any major problems with this.

The Bears have to think Claypool is significantly better than the expected rookie second rounder they could take by doing this.

You’re basically trading a second round receiver with years of control for Claypool with only one year of control.

I don’t think so either.

As a Steelers fan, I’m very happy with this.

Receiving a second roundner from Baltimore and the amount of cap space they have give them a lot of flexibility.

Claypool is a serious upgrade to what they have now at WR even if he's only around for a year and a half.

Claypool has had some maturity issues in the NFL, but this is a very much needed infusion of talent to the WR room for the Bears.

Build around this Justin Fields guy with your cap space and draft picks.

300 yards from scrimmage, 4 TD, no turnovers. And they moved up a draft position from the loss.

Suck for the rest of this season, then:

- 1st round (own) - LT
- 2nd round (own) - LG
- Remaining draft, stud DT’s and corners (helps if they can keep up with the opposing teams WRs). I’m guessing that a few Georgia players will be available in the third round.
- Sign quality free agent receivers

Need OL, LB, CB, WR. The offense was really fun to watch and fields passing numbers are higher without key drops and blatant PIs. Made some good throws ans checks

Have they even said for sure what it is? I haven't seen anything anywhere on his injury besides possible shoulder injury.

Livid with the playcalling at the end of the game. Fields was clearly hurting and you call him to run it with one timeout and like no time left?

I'm fine with losing, but Fields needs to stay healthy in the long-term.

Teams with dual threat QBs need to heavily invest in backup QB position. Almost guaranteed to play some quality time. Also hard to play in to your mid 30s let alone early 40s with that approach. Also the issue of going big on QB with a shitty OL. Draft 1st round OL for a year or two before chasing that QB gold.

I really haven't watched much NFL at all this year.... I have seen stories about Fields implying how good he has been and such and how QBs like him are changing the offensive ideas of the whole league etc... so I figure "Bears must be doing well this year". I check the standings and,....... what exactly is going on??

Dual threat QBs are fools gold. They might get you a few good years but then they crumble like a dry cookie. See Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen and Mahommes are passing QBs that can also run. Josh Allen takes more hits than Mahommes but probably less than Jackson and Fields.

There is almost no talent on the team outside of Fields. Kmet has turned a corner but isn't Kelce, Claypool is still getting his bearings, and Montgomery at RB is good but not enough to carry anything. The defense has been gutted due to offseason and in-season trades (and they were all good decisions imo). Fields has looked great and has been passing better recently too, so there's optimism that this isn't the long-term look on offense. Gotta upgrade the OL and receiver room in the offseason and provide a massive talent upgrade in the Front 7 on defense. Both through the draft and in Free Agency, where the Bears will have by far the most cap space.

He stopped running after the first half. Attempts and yards were proof, in addition to having watched the game the eyeball test made it perfectly evident. He could have taken off multiple times but instead threw and completed passes downfield.

They're shit. Everywhere. They have a ton of cap space and should probably trade down their top five pick to get more picks. They need help everywhere but QB. New GM, new HC cleaning up the mess that was left here from previous regime. Familiar story.

From this point forward for the rest of the season, if Fields can ball while remaining healthy and they lose the game, it's a banner Sunday. As much as beating Green Bay would have been fun, let them win a bunch of games and not make the playoffs. Rather it not be that way for this Bears team that is going nowhere in 2022 but has a lot of runway going forward.

I thought this throw to St. Brown was outstanding and there was another one in the second half to N'Keal Harry was really impressive, too.

If they can sort out the OL, they're offense is going to be scary. Fields still only a 2nd year player and his two picks in the fourth quarter were evident of that, prett poor decisions, but his ascent is clear and obvious.

At a high level, him and Jalen Hurts have been putting up absurd rushing totals this year and both have improved as passers, especially Hurts. The Bears only having three wins are certainly not on Fields; he's a franchise talent to be sure.

The first pick was not his fault if you go back and watch the replay in slo mo. When it was 20-19 GB. ESB has to come back for that ball. He didn't and it got picked off.

Alexander said after the game that more or less ESB was tipping his routes.

Second INT was garbage time.

That's fair, Jaire also played with ESB (or against him in practice) so there's a heightened level of familiarity there.
