Why wouldn’t he want to go to Chicago? What other realistic option is available?

With the way he played and acted this season, he doesn’t have any ground to stand on. I think he’s going to be a massive bust anyway.
Well he’s from DC and DC has the #2 pick… smells a lot like the Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers situation.

Good chance you are right. The Bears will need to do their due diligence and speak to Caleb face to face.

In hindsight, I think we're starting to see a lot of the negative stuff that was being said about Stroud was fabricated by Houston and who knows who else. He seems to have the talent, the football IQ and attitude to make it in The League.

I remember about a year ago all that stuff was coming out about his attitude, how he was a dunce when it came to breaking down film, etc. Very big smokescreen and likely an effective one.
Yep, and sometimes people just say stuff, like Emo Acho:

I'm sure he and his dad know the organizational history.

I am more focused on who they intend to hire on the offensive side of the ball first. Then they can figure out who the triggerman is.

Because the Bears develop quarterbacks worse than Brian Kelly.

The Holy Trinity of QB graveyards in the NFL (you get pickled by this team your career is over before it starts) is:

Chicago
Cleveland
Raiders or Jets

The Lions don't make the playoffs or win playoff games. The Gambler's Fallacy is strong.

Everyone picking at the top is terrible at developing QBs, that’s why they’re picking at the top lol. Washington hasn’t developed jack shit at QB in years.

New England is picking 3rd overall and had the best QB of all time

I’m talking historically. You will not find a more incompatible franchise for QBs than the Bears.

That's true, but it doesn't matter moving forward. Every coin flip is 50/50, it makes no difference what happened on the previous flips.

I agree with you on that, but do not believe every team is equally proficient at developing quarterbacks after they take them, and give them the same opportunities to succeed.

Some will thrive no matter the situation, but I honestly believe quite a few get screwed being paired with the wrong franchise.

Can't argue with that. Through multiple owners, GMs, and coaches, some teams have a great QB history. The Eagles just go through them like candy until they hit on one for example, even before Lurie. If I were a #1 pick type of QB I'd be in serious discussions with the Bears about their plans moving forward no doubt. But what they did in 2003, 1999, or 1982 wouldn't make any difference.

P.S. I'm still waiting on Will Furrer to develop.

I’m already sick of the Justin Fields debate. He’s without a doubt the most talented QB in bears history. The unfortunate fact is he got dealt a shit hand. From being drafted by a lame duck HC/GM to learning a 3rd offense in 4 years. It’s probably for the best to trade him and start fresh, but I’m going to trust Poles.

If by talent you mean innate athletic ability, fine. But if it includes all the things that make a great NFL QB, like reading a defense to identify blitzes and coverages, audibling to a different play, throwing a receiver open....then no. Because after 3 years, he's shown minimal aptitude for those necessary traits, and zero growth.

I'm going to disagree with minimal and zero.

That being said, his reads and progressions are still way too hit or miss at this juncture of the process. Particularly the parts on the field that he can control directly. Does it help that he's being coached by idiots? Probably not, but there are still things that he has direct control over himself that have not improved to the level where you'd want them to ideally be at. No question about that. His pocket awareness and diagnosing blitzes were question marks/weaknesses coming out of Ohio State.

I myself also tend to forget he started minimal games in college. I think that ultimately hurt him coming out.

Not to derail the conversation but the bar for “most talented QB in bears history” is pretty damn low…

Hear me out...

Trade Fields for 2nd and 4th in 2024 draft (ATL?)
Trade #1 pick for 2024 1st Round, 2024 2nd round, 2025 1st round, 2025 3rd round, and Impact player (Depends on who trades for it)
Resign Jaylon Johnson long-term
Address C, Edge, WR, IOL, & Safety through Free Agency & Draft
Sign Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson (Yeah, I said it)
Moved Velus Jones to RB, he can't catch the flu

You would have tons of draft capitol and cap space to make it work. Plus now you have 2 1st rounds and 2 2nd rounds in 2024 and 2 1st round picks and 2 2 round picks for 2025

It's gonna be Caleb @ #1.

Discussion really needs to start focusing on the #9 pick.

I saw a mock that was “hook this shit to my veins” worthy:

#1 to NE for #3, 3R, 4R, 2025 1R, 2R

#3 to ATL for #8, 3R, 5R, 2025 1 R, 3R

I would crap myself if they had 8 and 9 this year, and 3 high firsts next year, which would be probable

What’s Caleb Williams’ comp from a talent/douche bag standard. Maybe I’m biased from the last two years but he doesn’t seem to have the mental makeup to be great. Best case is Cam Newton but I’d bet he ends up more like Ryan Leaf. Trade the pick.

What if he wore gloves in the cold weather and wore headbands with the commissioner's last name?

Neither of those are enough for this years first pick considering San Fran traded 3 first round picks to move up and a 3rd to draft Lance.
