Not the worst list, although it certainly skewed heavily on the NFL side when picking Montana and Bettis. Obviously Knute wasn't a superb player, but you can see how he made it into the list given his accomplishments. If I had to replace those three I might do Mayer, Gipp, Pinkett, Brady Quinn or Bertelli? Ok, just 3 is hard, I've got more.

I'd throw George Connor's name in the ring. Didn't know much about him before recently reading his biography (before my time) but seemed like a ton of the greats from his era said he was the greatest they played with or against. He was the last of the 2 way players in the NFL to boot.

Was Manti known for his "tackling"? Bit of a lame thing to say in describing a LBer. It's up there with known for his footballing.

He was a pretty solid tackler. Not all LBers are great at it, some downright struggle. He's #3 all time in career tackles behind Bob Golic and Crable, 437 total. He had 7 INTs his Senior year though, which was pretty damn uncommon for a LB. That ties him for 6th for INTs in a season.

He was a Heisman finalist on the defensive side of the ball too. That’s hard to do.

I'm pretty sure until the NCG he hadn't missed a tackle all year or some crazy stat like that. If he made contact with the ball carrier, they were taken down at that spot.
