This will not be a popular take, but don’t play “The Boys Are Back”. It sucks and not hype. Get rid of that shit ASAP.
As someone who previously stumped for the return of more tried and true Classic Rock songs and less garbage music...yeah, I've got no problem with The Boys Are Back. It's good energy, it's got bagpipes, it's Dropkick Murphies...it just fits the culture imo. The video package they used with it for the Florida State game was good too I thought, I enjoyed it.

Have they played it at every game this year? I'd be okay switching it up and play it maybe 2-3 home games, doesn't have to be every one. So why do you think it sucks? Maybe it works better for a night game, maybe you got it during a day game and it's not as good? Excuse my shoddy video recording work, this was the video I got of it at the FSU game:

I think if they continue to do it and it becomes a tradition then we could see the stadium sing along a lot more to it.

I don't hate it. But it's very on the nose and kinda corny IMO.

We have a ways to go to catch up:

The two games I went to ND to see recently was CMU and Stanford. They were 3:30 kickoffs and I kind of felt I was watching TPC at Sawgrass rather than a football game. I need to go to a night game though.

Watched this the other day, my god what a difference in gameday/game atmosphere

The problem is, IMO, you can only artificially increase the gameday atmosphere so much. Having a small student section doesn't help. Add to that the amount of alumni that just want to be there and watch the game, but not be PART of the game... It's tough.

Not saying Notre Dame shouldn't strive to reach these levels, but it is tough to do when 20,000 of the ~77,000 are just sitting all game.

The other issue is that we're comparing afternoon games against Stanford and Virginia with a night game against a two top 5 opponents. I've been to plenty of Notre Dame games that are rowdy, the common denominator is that they are usually night games against big opponents or hated rivals. I've been to tons of quiet Tennessee and Georgia games over the years. An afternoon game against a bad Mississipi State in Neyland Stadium feels like a golf event. People care when the opponent is good.

Coach Freeman calling more crowd presence for playoff game

Also there are some interesting insights on the Notre Dame band in this reddit thread and some changes to how they've operated (impacting stadium atmosphere) in recent years

Does the Notre Dame band need to become more menacing?

I love the xylophones but we sure could use some Amazonian Death whistles or something.

Maybe instead of a haka, the band could do a pregame Irish stick fighting display at midfield.

Pretty cool. Austin has all those tech firms down there. They probably had one offer to do it just for the publicity.

Heard something the other day about A&M pumping in crowd noise. I know it's a no no in the NFL. Does the NCAA have any rule like this?
Not sure if there's a rule about it.
BUT, if there was one, they wouldn't enforce it anyway.

There is a rule. When the offense is in formation the PA is supposed to go dead. Its a rule that often gets ignored and it annoys me. GA Tech blasted the shit out of music during the ND offensive possessions at Mercedes Benz Stadium this year. Saw a ref call out a PA Announcer last year. Wish it would happen more often.
