There is no reasonable explanation for either of those guys to be playing over any of the three other safeties.

So I think one of many problems with this D is that BVG tries to install and practice so much complicated stuff that it takes time, lots of time. There is only so much time in the day and it seems we're regressing in very remedial areas, like tackling.

Just watching UCLA vs. USC, so much more action. Fast, strong football. Simpler? Maybe you're on to something. This is College football. It's supposed to be learned easily and fun to play. Make it so the players can play.

I agree with this. Utupo said earlier this week he can't imagine being a freshman trying to pick this defense up. It changes week to week. Can't imagine doing that and going to class

My problem with Diaco's defense was how much the kids had to think. If this is the case with BVG's defense, that is ridiculous. Send his ass back to the NFL. You don't change defenses week to week.

Agreed. Nothing worse than a coach who refuses to tweak his scheme to fit the ability of his players. That is the height of arrogance.

I am in the process of re-watching the game. We get them in a 3rd and 14, easy for the D, right? Nope, we run a blitz and they make us look like Swiss cheese. Offenses are literally making us really bad. Personnel is a part of it but scheme is aweful.

I think what bothers me most is the blitzing when no one is close...no pass rush. Just put people in coverage if he'll have all day anyways...

It is good to blitz when it works...but if not,
He is an aggressive, get to the QB, type coordinator. The problem is we don't get to the QB.

In fairness the DLine can't get pressure by themselves and their stunts are so predictable Helen Keller could see them coming. He simply has to blitz in his scheme with this personell. Lucky for him, Diaco had the luxury of having NFL calibur DL who could get pressure with 3 alone and then have the other 8 drop into coverage.

half the time it is not even overload blitzing, it's just db's blitzing from so far back the QB and Oline have all day to see them coming and have the free blockers there to handle them.

ND had 4 sacks yesterday. Not sure where the "no pass rush" is coming from?

Just because ND had 4 sacks doesn't mean we had a pass rush yesterday. Most of those sacks were coverage sacks, not us getting good pressure. I would say we had very little pressure yesterday on the QB.
