Yep, they could have copy/pasted have of the content directly from IE...
Just more ammo pointing back to the hair.

Liking the current CB and LB haul, but we have to do better at S and DE/DT.

I don't think our S recruiting has been that bad, they just aren't panning out (or in some cases have been moved to other positions). Redfield and Shumate were both very highly rated, Eilar Hardy was a 4*, and Prosise (obviously got moved to WR but was recruited as a S) and Baratti should have been nice depth pieces, and that isn't taken into account Farley (who was signed as an ATH) and Tranquill who was a 4* this year. Between those players we should have been able to field a good to very good two deep. That isn't even accounting for Collinsworth who was moved there.

I don't get the S issues either. Even with the time lost, we should have had two capable starters and one decent backup this year.

I'll be sensitive then.

Didn't like the article. Not because I necessarily disagreed with it, as you all know, I agree with the Schutt part. But the rest is almost an opinion piece relating poor attrition (Lynch, Frozen 5, etc) to poor recruiting. They are separate in my mind. The article read like an IE post rather than an actual article.

This is all surprising, as I usually love the OFD articles.

Frozen 5 IMO did not impact us all that much from a D perspective. Sure we lost KVR, but Riggs and Luke have done OK (CB is not one of our top 5 problems on D). IW was as big of loss as KVR given our lack of depth and rush. That said, I don't think the F5 impacted us all that much. Transfers.... it will always happen and we have to just deal with them. At the end of the day, it did read like an opinion piece, but it's hard to argue with the numbers. Diaco IMO was too selective and cast to narrow of a net.

I was speaking only about this year's class, and what we need going forward. Not saying safety numbers were mismanaged. At least not near as bad as the DL and LB spaces.

Have to disagree here:
  • Russell alone could have been the difference against FSU and NW, and I'd bet he would have significantly impacted the ASU game as well. His presence would also give us the option of moving Farley back to Safety, which is really struggling to produce at the moment.
  • Ishaq would have been starting all along, making us deeper and better rested through rotation. He's especially missed now that Day and Cage are out, since Rochelle may be moving inside.
  • Even Moore would have been a major contributor since we're thinnest at ILB and Schmidt went down.
  • We've probably dealt with Daniels' absence the best, but can you imagine how much more dangerous our WR corps would be with him lining up opposite Fuller?

Agree with all of this, especially the bolded. I truly believe our offense would be out of control scary with DD. He is a possession type receiver with very good speed. As it stands, we have a possession receiver with next to no speed (Lil' Admiral who I love,) and Fuller who has great speed and suspect hands at times.

DD would have given us the full gambit. I don't think we can really understate how his loss affected the offensive output. It's truly the missing piece in BK's puzzle.

We all knew our D would be suspect this year with our CBs providing a possible respite. Without KVR, even with Riggs coming up faster than we thought, we were right.

Next year is going to be IT. Coach: Tell us it ain't so, let's do this one more time! We got this!!!!

Yeah, I'm with Whiskey. Frozen 5 certainly have had an effect on us. You're talking about our best cover corner in Russell, a starter in Ishaaq that would certainly have helped given the injuries to the DL now, and certainly with Grace and Schmidt being injured there may have been a way that Moore ends up in the two deep. Injuries all around have really made a big impact on our defense the last 4 games though.

Will give you the difference maker (KVR) with FSU. NW... if you need a difference maker there, we're not that good. I do think they (F5) impacted us (more IW than anyone else) but recruiting is more the culprit than anything else IMO.. If I'm looking for a reason (outside of D recruiting) for ASU and NW, it's turnovers and mistakes.

@McMurphyESPN: No D in "Notre ame" again. Irish allows at least 30 points for 6th consecutive game, falls to UL 31-28

D played way better than I expected. They came up big and the offense failed to produce. That's the problem.

Just laughable to me that those are the safeties playing right now. And I've been calling for Martini all week and feel slightly vindicated... in his limited action he reads plays and fills 100x better than Morgan.

Whoever is making these personnel decisions is definitely NOT a "gangsta"

Yea, the safeties were garbage today.

The tackling is flat out atrocious.

So I think one of many problems with this D is that BVG tries to install and practice so much complicated stuff that it takes time, lots of time. There is only so much time in the day and it seems we're regressing in very remedial areas, like tackling.
