Can he recruit? If he can he might get an OC or other position coach somewhere

Truly a king. The other coaches can’t hold his jock today.

His film watching on punts is unbelievable. He is a good coach but his return teams still need some work and we need a kick that kick from 30 yards. 6-10 from 30 plus isn't good enough.

They can always be better, but BJoseph was averaging about 10 yards per return. It didn't look great in this game because Navy didn't have a good distance punter, negating some of the timing for a return.

I agree but our kick offs all season have been very blah. The one kick off today as soon as Tyree hit the 10-12 yard line it was 4 on 1. Like how does that happen? They didn't replay it so i could look to see what happened.

Yeah there have been some issues with that. I remember once Joe Wilkins blocking in open space and Tyree getting swallowed up. Speaking of Wilkins, Gi'Bran Payne took his role on the kickoff return, and he had a whiff or two

Do you think he has the final call on who returned the Ponce and the kick offs? I could see Reese getting involved in screwing it up. I don’t know why Salerno is the one to field punts. I’m thinking it’s because they believe he has the most steady hand. But he’ll never return it very far

I didn't get that either - why Tyree is not back there every punt is beyond me....

I’d get Big Estime in there.

I was thinking today,… how many years did it take to get seven blocked punts??? I swear it feels like it took like twenty years to get seven… now we have that many in one season?? Crazy

Amazing what happens... when seasoned players have a role on special teams. This really isn't that hard to figure out.

Mr. Marcus Freeman is the reason Mason has a full stock on hand to play the game.

I don’t wanna be too revisionist on Polian… he always had good kicking and punting, as well as punt coverage. That’s how Claypool for example first got endeared to ND fans. It’s honestly wild though how special teams went from bathroom/drink break to appointment tv the last 4 games

Bipolar ND fans.

Brian Mason could be on his way to an OC position.

Brian Mason is stupid for not putting Tyree back to field punts.

For the love of God shut up. I think Mason does know how to coach special teams very well. If he wants to put Solerno back there, that is probably the best choice.

I am not saying he isn't a great ST coach, I am saying I'd be just that little bit better.

Coach Mason, please get Grupe on track this week. He’s going to play a big role in beating BC this week. That is all.

He was director of Recruiting at Cinci in 2017, which I believe means he was responsible for the 2018 recruiting class? That came in at top 50 nationally (#49) book-ended by two mid 60s classes the years before and after.

NFL is obviously different, but John Harbaugh went from 9 years as the Eagles Special Teams coordinator, with only a single year gap as DBs coach, to Ravens Head Coach.

Would be surprised if Mason isn’t getting big money offers for a title increase, if not at least some group of 5 head coaching interviews after the season.

The only consistent thing week in and week out has been the punt blocking and coverage.

Forget the Broyles. Mason should get a Nobel prize lifetime achievement award for his advances in the field of special teams.

Well deserved. It's one of the best coaching jobs by an assistant, at ND, that I can remember. It's truly a remarkable accomplishment.

Remember when Goodman would fair catch every punt, no matter what?

These aren't BK's special teams, anymore.

Mason has absolutely already draw up kick return packages for Edwards and Love next year...

1. KOR Reverse
2. KOR Fake Reverse
3. KOR Throwback
4. KOR Hidden Man Trick
5. KOR Cross-Field Distraction Return

If I were him, I might even draw up an old-school two-deep punt return formation, just for the repeated possibilities from kickoff returns.

(Chances are he's just going to study the proper times to expect a directional kick, and set up lanes and funnels for a single deep return man at the right time, but we can dream.)
