A large portion of our fanbase wanted him fired. Pundits told him he couldn't get it done.

We all saw the talent, but there were many questions. It remained to be seen how long it would take our team to get the confidence and discipline to be great. Last year was very ugly, the leap this team made mentally is astonishing.

I felt so happy for Brian Kelly. He has endured so much unwarrented criticism. He was so excited last night, his face was lit up like a christmas tree. He stuck with what he knew, and didn't flinch, or stray away from his plan. The man is a leader, and it's great to see him finally get the recognition he deserves.

He called a hell of a game. He outcoached one of the best coaches in all of football. The man is a winner. While I was jumping around screaming last night I paused when I saw him talking to the sideline reporter after the game. The look on his face led me to stop and say out loud "you did it. you made it".

We've talked so much about Teo, Golson, and the young freshman stepping up. But they are the players they are because of Brian Kelly, and he's not even done building yet. It was just awesome to see him silence his critics and smile the way he did.

Congrats Coach Kelly!
We believe!

I thought he was a good hire. Has had a steep learning curve adjusting to the demands of the job but you have to admit the man is smarter than a rooster in the hen house with his back against the door. The man can coach and he loves what he's doing.

Congrats to him for learning, adjusting, and getting better as he goes. I think he's just getting warmed up.

Agreed. He was a proven winner everywhere he went, and any reasonable person knew he would probably do the same here if given the time. We saw the progress every year and felt we were on the cusp.

Even so, I don't think anyone foresaw 8-0 except for Kelly and his team. He's preached from day 1 that a championship is all that matters at Notre Dame. His ability to instill toughness, both mental and physical, in his team, while at the same time garnering respect, is one sure fire sign of a great coach.

Then last night, he comes out and out schemes and out coaches THE Bob Stoops. How many times did Herbstreit remark, almost to himself, how well Kelly was calling the game?!

I for one love having Coach Kelly, and always have. He's brought ND back from the abyss.

Love having Coach Kelly here. He still makes some odd decisions every now and then, but you can certainly see the plan unfolding. The guy is a perfect fit for ND.

That said, I think saying people wanted him fired is a pretty big stretch. I don't recall anyone sane making that kind of remark.

I just remember a dude named Champin, or something like that, the dude kept changing his handle. He was anti-BK since the hire and couldn't be reasoned with. Does anyone else remember him? I wonder where he is now.

Skill position players for the future. All are playing now. Hopefully one of our plethora of TEs can become a monster. Breezy blows the top off of coverages. Niklas is a match-up nightmare if he can prove to be a great receiving tight end. Davonte is big skill in the slot. DD is the big #1 receiver. Golson is a redshirt frosh learning in the offense right now. GAIII is pure speed. I'm thinking some read option in the near future with an excellent receiving corps to confuse the hell out of defenses. Kelly has done a great job, but he's getting guys in here that can play at a very high level. Don't forget about Amir Carlisle as well.

The only p[eople who wanted him fired were the crazies. I wanted Harbaugh as the coach because he emphasized a hard nosed D and a strength at the LOS. Kelly has turned ND into what Stanford was the last 2 years and I love it.

This team is only going to get better and it is exciting to realize that

Make no F-ing mistake about iy coach Brian kelly won that game for us with his play calling, yeah players make plays- but I bet very few of us arm chair QBs would have the balls to dial up that bomb to Chris Brown at that time and place in game. Big Kudos to Kelly all night!!!!!!!

I think Kelly is still painting his masterpiece. In 2-3 years this team could be looking at the world from the top of college football. The headlines---"what scares the SEC to death? Notre Dame"

i've said it other threads--a couple of times--

i've loved bk and chuck martin since i was at GVSU. when he left for CMU i thought, yeah he deserves a shot at d-1, and we didnt miss a step ay GV (i think in 6 or 8 years we lost 3 times and two of those were the D2 championship).
when we left CMU for cincy and saw the immediate shift in that program i told my roommate at the time, he'll be at notre dame in 5 years...he argued that his dream job was actually u of m. to this, i have no idea if there is any truth.
BK is amazing. great recruiter. great motivator. great developer of talent. we are truly moving to reloading and not just rebuilding.

Kelly has done a great job here. From He can't recruit, ND is a stressful job, and what ever else all the critics have said he has pushed all of them aside. But he didn't do it alone he has put together a great staff too. Kelly has answered everyones question is he the right man for the job. And i remember Dicki V saying on sportscenter that Kelly would win at ND looks like he knows a good coach when he sees one.

We are 11th in passing efficiency defense:

* We have three new starters in the secondary.
* None of them were recruited to play DB.
* Two of them are in their first years playing their respective positions.

COACHING. IT IS GOOD TO HAVE IT.

I am dumbfounded by that statistic....I know the front 7 is good and that helps a lot but I always though that was the weakest link and it still is, its just not weak...Kudos to the coaching staff!

Lol, this board is so fast. I was going to post that link, but got slowed in my searching digging through all the articles criticizing the extension. Here's one for everyone to laugh at, as it frames the awesomeness of how things are going this season: Muller: Contract Extension For Brian Kelly Doesn’t Make Sense « CBS Chicago

Excerpt from that article:
"I don’t think anyone that follows college football believes that the Irish are going to be competing for a national championship anytime soon, but I also don’t think anyone thinks Brian Kelly is doing an outstanding job either."

Think he will have crow for dinner?
