If you went to Central Casting to find someone to play the role of "perfect QB" Andrew Luck would step out.

Has the smarts, the demeanor, the physical tool, etc. It is easy to root for this kid even though he plays for a rival.

Does anyone else chuckle at the headline, here?

Andrew Luck called his own plays for a few series, and now he's just like Peyton Manning?

I'm old, so I'm offended...........there were many QBs, before Manning, who called their own plays....... for the entire game!! In fact, in days of yore, when you had to find a pay phone to make a call while away from home and gas was less than $1.00/gallon, ALL of the NFL QBs called their own plays. But I guess it wouldn't be hip enough, to say "Luck calls own plays in Unitas-esque fashion"?

I'm old too, but I think the headline here is that Luck is in college, not the NFL, and I think the list of current college QB's calling their own plays is a fairly short one?

Luck had full ride scholarships to Ivy League schools based on academics alone. Kid's extremely intelligent.

There are a lot of old people on this site, but this is the oldest sounding post ever.

Kmoose, I normally I agree with you but not here. Yes QB's back then called their own plays but you can't even compare the complexity of offenses today vs those of the 1980's and before as they are extremely more complex now. Also defenses are more complex now and require the QB to make more presnap reads and to audible more thus making it more rare.

Edit: maybe the Houston Oilers run and shoot was complext, but I don't know if Warren Moon called his own plays or audibled that much as I was way to young to remember.

...As a side note, Andrew Luck also fed himself and tied his own shoelaces. A proud papa, Oliver Luck was seen with a tear of joy running down his left cheek.

I remember Johnny U. I sometimes wonder if Unitas could've become Unitas in today's era of Coach As MicroManaging Genius. I wish the coaches would go back to preparing players for the game and let the QB call the plays. At least we wouldn't have the delay-of-game penalties.

Not only is he the best QB in the country but he hits like a truck and makes highlight reel grabs.

I hate him
