Feels like revisionist history and cope by LSU fans. Both because it is a further mark against Kelly and because it explains why their Heisman producing OC took a lateral move. They were about to make him the highest paid OC in the SEC and he left because he'd rather be at ND. This "Kelly pushed Denbrock out" narrative was nowhere to be seen when he made the move to ND.
It was from T-Bob Herbert, former LSU player and current member of the Unnecessary Roughness podcast. He was in BR for about a decade hosting the ESPN radio show out of there for the LSU beat. Very well could be revisionist but I think he was pretty plugged in with the program when he was down there

“Pushed out” sounds extreme, even if they wanted to promote Sloan (believable) why “push out” the DC that he’s been learning under? immediately after you have the best offense in the country, mind you.

Especially weird considering they agreed to a three year extension immediately before he left for ND (less than a month before he was announced as the ND OC)

I would imagine this was a game of telephone, T-Bob went with the most salacious thing he heard, which was probably embellished before it got to him

Worth noting: what happened in between the December 6th contract extension and his hiring at ND on December 29th? ND plays Oregon State in El Paso on the 29th, with Gerad Parker leaving for Troy on the 18th.

LSU’s only action in that time frame was the Heisman ceremony on the 9th.

The chronology indicates that his move was prompted by changes at ND rather than LSU trying to push him out

He definitely wasn't "pushed out" in the traditional sense (see: Gerad Parker, Charley Molnar, etc.) where you tell someone 'thanks, but go find another job.' I'm shocked to here the LSU guy saying that, because it isn't even cope. It's just weird.

The alleged story from the time of the hiring is that the contract extension wasn't fully executed by LSU's board in a timely manner because they were being lazy // it was over the holidays. While in limbo, ND made overtures and he wanted to gtfo from LSU. Why? Well for starters, he has a history with Kelly where Kelly did not treat him well from 2014 to 2016. He was OC in 2014, then Kelly wanted Sanford as a QB coach and had to give him OC title to get him. So he made Denbrock AHC, and despite Denbrock being the party most responsible for the 2015 success it wasn't Denbrock getting the lion's share of the credit + compensation. And then Denbrock was not treated well during the 2016 season. Then comes the reunion, where he gifts Kelly an elite offense + Heisman winning QB... and Kelly tries to reverse-Sanford him. Give Sloan the credit + a promotion to keep him, especially because Sloan was the primary recruiter on Bryce Underwood and Kelly didn't want to lose Underwood. So there was not a great working relationship with Kelly and Denbrock after '23, but Denbrock (who is old) was content to take the pay raise and gut it out a few more years and then retire. When the ND offer came, he snatched it up. LSU tried to counter and match ND and he told them to fuck off.

A team does not counter offer and try to keep you if they are "pushing you out."

Do you know if any of ND’s overtures occurred prior to Parker accepting or being lined up for the Troy job? Just out of curiosity

I don't know specifically if they had contacted Denbrock or others, but they were definitely taking the temperature on OC candidates prior to the end of the year. There wasn't a scenario where Parker would've been back in that role for 2024.

2024 PSU was better than any ND team under BK imo - embrace debate.

2023 and 2025 PSU might have been favored on a neutral field as well against our 2012 / 2015 / 2018 / 2020 squads.

Maybe. One area Franklin had over BK is he is a better recruiter.

Actually what really went on today was that Nussmaier (sp.?) was exposed as a pedestrian quarterback.

Surprising.
The word out there is he’s really injured in his core pretty bad. He was hurt before in fall camp and I just had this hunch there was more to it than what the reports were saying. But just watching him this year … I mean, he threw for 4,000 yards last season —you can tell right now he doesn’t have that same zip on his passes. Something (purportedly core / abdominal area) is nagging and bothering him and he doesn’t have the power on his throws.

His pathetic excuse for an offensive line and running game isn’t helping things either.

Year-to-year talent differentials aside (and, like, we never had an Abdul Carter), Franklin's Penn State = Kelly's Notre Dame. Good but not elite.

BK has dispelled the rumors the Nuss has an injury to his core. Rather, he has an injury to his abdomen. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Chris Vannini (@chrisvannini.com)

"LSU coach Brian Kelly says QB Garrett Nussmeier had an ab strain, not a core injury, and it's been slow to heal, but he's on the back end of recovery from it.

Said rumors of Nussmeier needing surgery are "misinformation.""

So….the core? Makes sense as his throwing power and velocity has been noticeably lacking. That said, that still doesn’t address our complete abandonment of any sort of running game.

Watching some replays, he's clearly guarding/protecting his right side. Not opening up on his throws and short-arming a lot of deep passes, which supports the concerns that he's battling a core/oblique injury.

If Nuss truly has a core muscle injury, I'm surprised he's even playing and it would make all the sense in the world he's struggling. I literally got surgery on Tuesday after tearing it off the bone in a complete circle and the day after surgery I was already moving better than beforehand. The doctor who preformed it operates on a ton of pros and he said sometimes they'll try to mask it with injections in a contract year. Wonder if that's what he's attempting to do

A friend of mine is an LSU guy and he's totally soured on BK. Already wants him gone. I quote, "He'll do just enough to not get fired and keep us hoping, but will never make us happy."

He’s brought stability back to the program (even though I was one that never thought Oregeron should have been fired so quickly). He’s done some good things (Heisman - even though that’s an individual award; got us to the SEC Championship), but, to date, has still fallen short. Not sure he’s the guy to get us over the hump.

I said it before, it’s like purgatory. He’s good enough for 8/10…9/10 programs, but God, he can’t give over the hump and sucks all the fun and identity of a program.
