How did LSUs defense get so bad. Don’t they pride themselves on their D? What about that all world LB they had?

It really is something. The talent is absolutely there; Ed O recruited really terrific classes before BK took the reins.

Nabors played the first half to get the all time reception record. Now sitting the second half…with his team trailing. Just amazing that’s something that’s tolerated
Blah blah culture blah blah blah RKG etc etc

Son of a bitch is going to pull this game out

If he does, where does this trophy go in the case that encapsulates his legendary career?

I’d put it somewhere in front of the Camping World Bowl trophy, and behind the Citrus Bowl trophy, which is the crown jewel of 3 decades of stellar coaching.

It is 100% selfish. It’s crazy to me how self center some of the guys are.

When I saw Nabors out there (after hearing what I thought was an earlier statement that he wouldn't be), I immediately thought: I bet that Coach negotiated this. "Come back and play the game. We'll feed you so you can get the record. Then you can take off the rest if you want to." They started right off with a couple of gimme feeds, and I thought: Can this actually be correct? So now, IF Nabors actually sat out the last part of the game AND was not dinged up, this could be the oddest Coach/Player "negotiation" I've ever heard of. The PREVIOUS oddest such affair was also Coach Kelly, when he let an elongated DT of ours (with a history of somewhat gimpy knees) sit out a game in mid-schedule vs Navy due to "maybe getting chopped and not wanting to hurt his pro chances."

I'm not sure what I think about stuff like that. IF the rest of the team is OK with it, then I guess I'll shrug and go with the "human side" of life decisions. But a football program is a BIG bunch of many folks, and managing that would seem tough in things like this. I guess it could depend upon how well Nabors was liked and how upfront everyone was about it.

Nabers can be chalked up as a win for Brian Kelly.

He dropped those punts to start last season, him and Boutte deleted all LSU stuff from their social media in a hissy fit, and by all accounts appeared to be done as LSU football players.

Kelly talked them off the ledge, got them through the season, got Nabers to buy in for 2023, and now Nabers is most likely a top 10 pick with a completely rehabilitated image.

I have no doubt that they developed a close relationship after that meltdown in New Orleans. No way Nabers stays the course like he did if they weren’t close.

I bet Kelly misses coaching at a place where the players aren’t a bunch of drama queens.
So maybe he goes back to Grand Valley St?

I think you’re overthinking it. If you’re a team with championship aspirations and you aren’t playing in either the Rose Bowl or the Sugar Bowl, then your game is absolutely meaningless. The Playoffs, the Portal, NIL and opt outs have rendered the games absolutely meaningless. If you win, who cares? If you lose, who cares?

You rather Marcus looking all handsome and nonplussed?
Sorry if you want that pompous ass hat back as a head coach. Was never a fan of the hire, and glad the end came. I'd rather have Farmer Fran from Waterboy as head coach over Kelly...at least his accent is real

Wisconsin sucks for losing that game. Had them by the short and curlies most of the way and let BK sneak out a win. 🤮
Wisconsin looked like they wanted to be there, and we didn’t — at least early on. As I’ve said before, if you’re a team with championship aspirations, bowl games (outside of the Playoffs) are useless and pointless. They’re nothing more than a glorified spring game. That said, I was glad to see Nuss play and play very well. It took him a little time to settle in, but he looked more than capable yesterday. That’s all I took from the game.

Eh. By that measure, LSU’s season ended in September. Certainly in early November when they lost to Bama and ended any hope of winning the SEC. Everything after that was just as “useless and pointless” as the bowl game.
And yet they kept playing, didn’t they?

If a player, or a whole team, doesn’t want to play in a bowl game, they should decline. It’s fine. (I think more teams should decline bowl games they’re just not into). Someone else might appreciate the opportunity.

But if you play, you should play to win. Anything less is disrespectful to your opponents, your fans, and, yeah, the guys on your own roster for whom it is not a meaningless joke, and they are many.

In the past (typically, Les Miles’ teams) that’s exactly when they mailed it in. They placed so much emphasis on that game, would typically lose, and just come out flat the remaining 2-3 games.

I do agree with the rest of your statement, and it sounds nice and all, but it isn’t reality — especially now. Starting players transfer and coaches leave at the conclusion of the season, but before the bowl game. Players opt out. It just isn’t the same. Again, if you’re Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Northwestern, Cal, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Arizona State, Iowa State, etc…that’s different. You’re still playing and likely excited. The major programs, however? No way. There’s a reason for the opt outs and low fan turnout.
