Easy to complain until you have the sheet in your hand, and ideas rocketing in from the booth, and your feel for the players, and their baggage, and the tendencies of the opposing DC, what they are doing today, how they've adjusted, and where their playmakers are aligned...what options are installed behind each play and read (will a shift get you into something the QB is uncomfortable with...anyway, way more to play calling than "run the damned ball".

I get it...sometimes you want to say...send in a damned play with no options, which is the time disaster strikes...and you run right into them, or throw into a baited trap...You can line up and dictate sometimes...but coaches tend to recognize that and take the low hangin' fruit.

Anyway, BK may have faults, but not as many as it may appear IMHO...

And honestly, the play calling -- given the constraints on a REALLY unprepared/inexperienced QB with a different skill set than the starter they practiced with all fall -- has been A level in at least 3 of the 4 games. The only game with legitimate gripes is UVA, where we did a really poor job of 3rd down play calling.

Write Kelly a letter or send him an email. I'm sure he'll give your thoughts their due diligence. I mean, when coaches want football advice I'm sure they always call the plumber, or banker, or student, or unemployed 27 year old living in his parent's basement, or.... (that last one is me)

I will give credit, the playcalling has been better this year. Then again maybe that is because BK isn't calling the plays anymore.

There is certainly an influence on BK's play calling.

There is more involvement, therefore, an evolution of sorts.

With all of this going back and forth, compare ND's offensive stats this year to Boise State's last year in particular.

Yeah, I had thought Sanford and Denbrock were calling the plays. Especially by BK's actions on the sidelines. Sure hasn't looked like he is calling them. Granted he can override if he wants to, but by and large I have not seen anything to indicate he has been calling the plays on a regular basis.

I don't blame this one on Kelly, but I don't give him a lot of credit for the 4th quarter either. Pretty easy to call plays to beat a D playing that soft.

Brian Kelly can't prevent CJ, CJ, and Brown from fumbling. THere was nothing about play calls that had anything to do with those 3 fumbles. C-Rob dropped the 2-point conversion that would have allowed us to kick an extra point to win the game. What do you want from him?

We should have won. A couple of players made some bad plays on good play calls. This is not evidence that BK needs to be replaced. Quite the opposite. We nearly knocked off (and should have) a very good team in their house in a night game.
