Still Lurking. Think about it. Tell me I’m wrong!

I’m an idiot. 12/19/2020 start of 4th Q ACC Championship.

Here is where I think BGIF would have regaled us with another telling of Holtz benefiting from Vinnie Cerrano’s recruiting.

I feel it’s so hard to win at ND considering social media and the demands on transparency nowadays that BK has it much harder than any other coach at ND, and possibly ever in all of sports. I know the National Championship seals the deal, though.

Easily. Holtz coached during a very different era when ND had a lot of structural advantages.

Lou was .765, with a 12-0 NC
BK , 7 more losses, 2 undefeated seasons followed by embarrassment in the BCS and CFP.

Both had 11 years.

Close, but Lou takes it by a nosesh.

Still has a bit to go to top that '88-'93 run.

That run is legendary and probably not attainable in today’s landscape.

I think it’s unfair to both Holtz & BK to compare them. Just too many differences in every aspect of the game between 1986-2010

Needs a ship and then I’ll agree.

If he gets a ship, I agree too. Lou got it done, but it was a different time with few recruiting restrictions and Notre Dame had all the advantages. Kelly has brought ND back to the table as a top performer in an era where teams are more balanced and everyone is on TV. A ship just means so much more, and this might be the best chance to get it done this year even though we could be better at a few positions.

I'd toss in though, that Lou brought us back from the Faust years.... And quickly. NC in his 3rd year.

Lou had us to a championship in three years, and I count 93 as a second. Call me when Kelly gets one....

Winning a championship is so damn hard. If he sticks around a while longer and easily takes winningest coach in Irish history, that alone should get a statue, even if he doesn’t get a ship.

And BK brought us back from the Davie-Willinghsm-Weis fiasco to a NC game in his third year. Just ran up against a semipro Bama team.

Did BK technically get his 2012 and 2013 wins vacated? They don’t count toward his total on his Wiki page...

Let's be honest. We didn't belong in 2012. It was a weird year, had some decent wins, but we just weren't on that level.

No natty or no major bowl win. Yes there was the two LSU bowl wins but neither were BCS or NY6 games. Until that changes I won’t ever think that about BK. I’m not a hater but I’m not crowning anyone better than Lou until they achieve the accomplishments Lou has with ND.

I think both guys did and are doing a great job in their respective eras. Totally different landscapes with national championship games and now playoffs versus crowning a champ after the season. I’m just glad I got to live through and enjoy Lou’s run. BK is doing a good job as the CEO and has found a great recipe for success at ND. I hope he gets a natty, we will look back on his tenure favorably whenever it ends.

Lou had many major wins. BK probably just got his first (or maybe we count 2012 Oklahoma). BK needs to match Lou's 1 and a robbed NCs.

But I want a BK statue bad for him.

I think if Kelly had the talent of five straight #1 classes (like Lou) then he would have a statue outside the stadium. Different times. Unless he wins a NC then Lou will always have the edge.

Was Lou up against the same kind of power houses that Kelly has been up against? An equivalent of Bama for the passed decade?

I just enjoy what they are doing now. I enjoyed the Holtz years. I enjoyed Ara's era. I have always been a fan and enjoyed some years more than others. I have always been proud of the players that came through also, no matter what kind of year the team had. It is hard to compare any era at Notre Dame. They all had their unique rivals and challenges in most every coach's tenure. Dont forget about Leahy and Rockne. The Irish have been blessed with some extraordinary coaches over the years. For close to a century.

in the 88 NC year, we beat #9 scUM, #1 Miami, #2 USC, and #3 WV.....

4 top 10, and 3 top 3 teams.

Notre Dame appears to have found its nuts and is counting those as wins

Let's be honest, in a world where Paterno got his wins back after the Ped St. cover up, and Miami and NC received nothing for their unreported violations, it's a crock of shit we even got dinged by the NCAA for self reporting a couple players having papers written for them... unbeknownst to the staff when it occurred. It's a horrible look on the NCAA honestly.

Funny thing is if KSU and Oregon don't both choke I think we probably win it all.

I still dont buy that. BKs team was so woefully unprepared for that game it was insane.

Bama was far superior, but the lack of a gameplan, and obvious lack of live reps exacerbated an already bad situation. Im not sure they would have beaten anyone with a pulse that evening.

Bama said how the ND defense basically never left their base formation all year, planned to exploit it, and did. Im fairly certain Oregon at the very least would have done the same.

BK has grown a lot since then, and although there is still an annual WTF prime time meltdown, he seems to not be so stubborn and rigid. If something isnt working, he adapts on the fly instead of going down with the ship.
