I don't buy any of this nonsense. Kelly isn't going anywhere. I haven't seen a link to any report. All I've seen is speculation.
I know of very few sports writers who would keep a story this big under their hat.
Kelly interviewed with the Eagles immediately after the BCS title game, did well enough to receive a very lucrative offer that was very 'committable' by all accounts, and sat on that offer for quite a few days before eventually saying no. No way should we be comfortable in his commitment to ND.
Actually, in college football, it happens a lot. The paysites run the real news for college football, and when their team does well, subscriptions go up. When there is crappy news out there that can't exactly be corroborated by facts or statements from major players, they aren't going to go with it when it hurts the program. Think about all the reports on Johnny Manziel. Who knows more about his exploits than A&M insiders? And yet you hear NOTHING about him from them that puts him in a negative light (until maybe after the news breaks). Do people really believe they don't have good dirt on him? Child please...that kid is so stupid and brazen he is a story every time he steps out the house. But you hear nothing from their reporters.
Another example closer to home. At a tailgate at the spring game, an ISD reporter was telling a couple of us a story about how he got a tip from someone about a great story that he would have broken. And since he knows one of the coaches really well, he went to the coach and the coach confirmed it. But the coach asked him not to say anything, and the reporter honored his request. Or how about EV? Reporters told us this info at the tailgate, and TP told some of us the week before. But yet the reporters sat on the story, as juicy as it was. Shoot, there was a juicy story in the spring that would have put ND in an absolutely awful light, and the reporters all knew about it. But no one wrote about it, and still no one has. If Hamilton of one of the Chicago papers got a hold of it, HE'D run with it, but the local reporters rightfully didn't.
As for Kelly to TX, no one really buys it at this point at all. It's much more the NFL that I'm concerned with.
BK doesn't need rumors to negotiate with ND. They know he is grossly underpaid and he will have higher paying opportunities by seasons end.
I'm not putting much stock in the rumors that have sprung up on this thread today. Let's get back to speculating future coaching candidates or when ND will announce his extension (my guess is December) or close a thread that never should have been created to begin with.
who on our schedule has a coach that will be there until they retire? stoops? i can't think of many coaches in the country that would retire at end of current contact besides Saban (done it all) and Brow, Beamer, and ksu coach all due to age?
Am I missing some?

So everything TP said regarding Swarbrick waiting to announce it for "momentum" purposes is a load of BS is what you're saying?
Which is why I think this whole thing is one bubble off. It just isn't level. Kelly is the best coaching talent in a while. He finally has things going his way. They are going to keep him and he is going to stay, until it is no longer about money. Then it will be about family, the NFL, or retirement, and no package will matter.
Nick Saban.I'm going to assume Mr. Next Best Thing will be gone after this season, so my vote is Charlie Strong.
Nick Saban.
In reality give me Gruden or Patterson.
Strong would be okay also.
I can't believe that this is really even being talked about with actual concern. Not saying NDinLA is wrong but it just sucks to hear these murmurs.
My concern is that ND is backing off what it takes to win and going back to stringent standards. Not saying we need to be like an SEC school but at least stop shooting ourselves in the foot.
In reality if the school wanted it they could afford it. But you also would have both those men agree to share. lolWhat about Gruden and Patterson? Talk about passion, LOL.
Why close the thread though? This is a real topic being discussed on other boards. Yeah, it sucks for ND fans, but not everything is rosy with ND and it's OK to talk about it IMO.
Serious question, please don't laugh if it's a stupid one. Any chance the new Pope Francis, being a Jesuit, will have an effect even at Notre Dame on what may seem to many as extravagant salaries?
So Hollywood, what makes you think BK isn't our coach next season? You never really said why.
I just wouldn't think it would be that hard to keep Kelly. Bob Stoops, Kirk Ferentz, Charlie Strong, Gary Patterson, Mike Gundy, Bret Bielema, Brady Hoke, Butch Jones, Lane Kiffin, Todd Graham, Bo Pelini, Paul Johnson, James Franklin, and Gary Anderson are all getting paid more than BK. What kind of **** is that!!? Over half of those guys wouldn't even get the job at Notre Dame if Kelly left.

Fan those flames!
Let's differentiate between two things: Kelly leaving at some point in the future and Kelly leaving before this upcoming season.
Anything can happen in college football, but the chances of the latter happening are very, very small. He won't quit right before the season like this. Not happening. And where's he going to go in August? Take a year off?
As far as Kelly leaving at any point following the season, well I think we'd better get used to it. He's a very successful coach who will continue to receiver many offers over the years.
Furthermore, I don't think the lack of an extension at this point, or the lack of an announcement of an extension really matters either way. Put another way, I don't think the lack of an extension should be fueling fire right now about Kelly leaving. The odds still seem extremely high that Kelly and his staff sign an extension at some point in the near future. Does that new contract mean Kelly's staying for the next 2 to 5 years? No it does not. Just not sure very loose speculation and harping on the Eagles situation should be sounding off alarm bells right now.
Thanks for sharing the info you know(what you can). I appreciate it and it's good to know what the pay sites are discussing(I'm to cheap).BINGO!
There will always be rumors of him leaving, contract signed or unsigned. Second, exccept for a very few select individuals we really don't know the status of the contract. My guess there is a very good and probably simple reason why it hasn't been signed yet and it's more of a formality.
I said it when Swarbrick was brought on and have repeated it over and over. Trust in Jack. He has handled everything very well up to this point. No reason to worry.

ND in LA,
What I struggle with is why TJ34 would continually post on Rivals that this is basically a done deal. He was saying the assistants did get a substantial raise and it will be announced soon. If this were not true then I don't see why TJ would post it. Don't think he would risk his reputation by posting false information.
Not saying your info is wrong but TJ does have credibility. Why would he risk it?
