But you probably get shitty tickets. Fiesta has a ton of tickets available on their site that are mostly better than those assigned to schools. Smart money says that is where we go since we will pack the stadium and that Bowl is harder to fill. Two teams in the Peach that are within a 8 hour drive are my bet. ND will travel to well AZ and most teams will not.

The committee picks these bowls so look for them to stack the deck.

Because ND didn't play either of those teams.. ND vs FSU is a great matchup.... ND vs Houston or Iowa is less sexy

I could see us getting Houston or Iowa in Fiesta and FSU vs. the other in Atlanta - ensures both stadiums fill up nicely. ND will get ratings regardless of who they play so probably Houston is theirs and FSU/Iowa. Iowa can drive to Atlanta and might surprise how well they travel this year.

Not with total freedom, though. The group of five representative is slated for the Fiesta this year. I can't imagine them doing a Notre Dame - Temple rematch in the event that Temple upsets Houston. Plus, I can't imagine any group of five team selling out that stadium, even if the opponent travels well. I'd almost expect to see them stick a shitty matchup there on purpose to take a big bath and then put the hype programs in the Peach.

Maybe I misunderstand the rules. Is it even possible for it to be ND - Iowa in the Fiesta? I thought one team has to be group of five.

Fair points - Take a bath in one strategy is not unprecedented. Absolutely no chance they rematch ND and the fact we already played two of the best the AAC had to offer might work to our advantage. You can bet Houston is more likely to show up if they are playing ND than if they are playing Iowa though. ND might give them a chance at not taking a dump in one bowl unlike most other years. I think FSU/Iowa does just fine on the east coast given the location.

Funny how they slot the group of five like that, hot potato game for sure. I didn't see that caveat so take my previous post with a grain of salt.

It was on Wikipedia so take the caveat with the grain of salt, too. I can't find anything official.

Is there any scenario where the rose bowl isn't Big10 vs Pac12? What if Bama or Clemson looses and Stanford makes the playoffs? Would they really put a 4 loss USC team in just because of tradition?

It has to be a Pac-12 team, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the champion.

Right that's what I'm saying. Their best option left would be a crappy USC team.
USC would be 8-5 in that scenario (losing to Stanford and Stanford to the playoff). The Rose Bowl would probably go to 9-3 Oregon or Utah.

I still can't believe a 2 loss Stanford team is being tossed around to make he playoffs. They lost to NW for fucks sake.

Right!!!?

And a shitty Notre Dame team with fans whose doubts were larger than the Captain of the Titanic, upon hearing his ship was destined to sink.

Insert sarcastic font where individual sees fit. Personally, I'd sarcastic font the whole comment.

Obviously some of you would choose not to apply sarcastic font anywhere in my statement.

Kind of like a "choose your path" book from childhood.

stanford is being bandied about as a playoff longshot for hype only, networks trying to build viewership of the pac 12 champ game. that is all.

My first choice of opponents would be Iowa followed by Florida St. I hope we dont play Ohio st but the worst option would be Houston because of how damaging a loss would be.

Is there any chance we play Bama if they lose this week?

God, that would suck. My only positive about missing the playoffs was not having the possibility of seeing Travis Henry literally kill Joe Schmidt.

If Michigan State beats Iowa in the Big 10 Championship, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ohio State move ahead of Iowa in the rankings and the Buckeyes go to the Rose Bowl over Iowa.

I would be perfectly happy with a Fiesta Bowl matchup against Iowa.

Or Derrick Henry...or Mark Henry aka Sexual Chocolate for that matter!

Yeah. Iowa would be much preferable to Ohio State for us.
Would be an interesting choice for the committee/Rose Bowl between Iowa and OSU. Ohio State is probably better/more deserving (assuming MSU beats Iowa by more than a last second field goal). But Iowa hasn't been in 25 years.

I don't see what Mandel is looking at because didnt the Rose Bowl committee say they'll take the #2-ranked B1G team according to the committee? With another lose, either Iowa or Michigan State is likely to fall below Ohio State.

Just answered this actually

Echoes of the 2006 Fiesta Bowl. An Irish team with a dynamic offense and an average defense got rolled by the Buckeyes in Tempe. I have no desire to relive that experience.

This isn't that team... Nd beats Ohio St if they played this year..... We would shut down the run and expose their defense Stanley > Bosa

IDK if we'd lose but I think OSU would score a lot on us. I think Michigan has a better defense than us, especially against a power run team, and OSU scored 40 on them.

We played two top-10 teams and lost to both because our defense is incapable of getting a stop when needed. I've got no idea why you think OSU would turn out any differently.

The Buckeyes are rated as an overall better team by FEI, S&P+, and F/+.

I hear ya...but wouldn't it be sweet putting a beat down on Urbie? I have confidence we could play with them.
