IF Arkansas goes 7-5 next season, how long will it take for the Hog fans to call for Long's head?

He did the right thing tonight but I suspect they're gonna roast him on a spit at the first opportunity.

Fast, as in before they even have the chance to get to 7-5!

Arkansas fans are delusional, at both ends of the spectrum (I lived there, much of my family lives there, I go there frequently, and I know some people who have/do work in the athletic program...so I'm not just spouting off Skip Bayless I-know-all-about-all-things-sports crap). They could go 1-11 next year...and the fans would blame one measly win on the lack of Bobby Petrino. They could go 11-1 next year...and the fans would blame one measly loss on the lack of Bobby Petrino. That sums up the fan base.

Don't know if this has been verified...

@Mizzou2SEC
Earlier reports that Petrino refused terms/penalties to remain coach at Arkansas were incorrect. Petrino never had an option to stay.

Long was quoted on that in the CBSsports.com article from 6:49 pm:

Bobby Petrino fired at Arkansas - CBSSports

"I had a conversation with coach Petrino today that concluded my review," Long said, adding that -- contrary to multiple reports -- "there was no negotiation about ways he could remain as football coach."

I likewise have some familiarity with the locals. At a my wife's family reunion in El Dorado some years ago, two 50 year old women had to be physically restrained over a heated argument about the yardage stats for a freshman punter.

What else is there to do? Hunt, fish, go honky tonkin', and follow the Hogs.

Great story. I just have to laugh. Sorry. It couldn've happened to a more deserving individual who has left 2 other teams high and dry.

Dude- I'd appreciate you not making fun of my mom and aunt on this site.

Remember boys and girls safety first when riding a motorcycle.

Could this be the first BCS coach fired for improper handling of a motorcycle?

I think he'll catch on with a power-conference bottom feeder looking to make strides with its football program. HCTI mentioned Kentucky ... I don't know what their coaching situation is but in the abstract that seems like a good guess to me. I mean if schools like that are willing to give Dennis Erickson a shot (Oregon State, Arizona State) then why not Petrino.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects recruiting. Say, for instance, Arkansas hires Skip Holtz, and Holtz takes Hargreaves' dad with him. Will the son start looking harder at schools outside of Florida? Or will he just follow his dad to Arkansas? There will definitely be recruiting ripples from this.

First of all, as a student at Arkansas State, If they hired Gus Malzahn, I would be slightly upset. Secondly, If I to put money on it, I would bet Garrick McGee. He was the offense coordinator for Arkansas under Petrino. If he comes back to Arkansas they have a chance to have the same high powered offense as they did with Petrino.

I personally think Petrino got beat-up by the girl's boyfriend and the motorcycle accident is a cover-up. Word is that the girl did not have a scratch on her. Pretty difficult to have a wreck on a motorcycle and not get injured.

While checking out the tigerdroppings board I came across a thread that was somewhat interesting in that it speculated that Petrino could land at Kentucky or Tennessee next year.

What do you guys think the chances are of Petrino being hired within the next 12 months. If so, what are the most likely destinations?

I don't know why any program would touch this guy with a ten foot pole. He does something stupid or leaves a negative reflection of every program he goes to. But then again, this is the SEC we're talking about.

IU was desperate enough that they hired Kelvin Sampson fresh off of recruiting violations. While they did have some success, he set that program back quite a few years with the disaster that was left in his wake.

Some programs are so desperate to win, they will take the risk. They may end up regretting their choice, but I think some school will take the gamble.

Kentucky has been irrelevant throughout the duration of its football program. Tennessee is treading awfully close to becoming irrelevant-- they desperately need a good year this year (but...it ain't happenin' with Dooley manning the ship) to avoid becoming an also-ran fighting amongst the likes of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, and LSU. In a funny twist of fate, Kentucky's victory over Tennessee this past year holds the distinction of pissing off 2 fan bases: 1) Tennessee, for, well, losing to Kentucky and 2) Kentucky, for that victory enabling hated coach Joker Phillips to keep his job.

Anyway, what does a school like Kentucky (or perhaps even Tennessee) have to lose by hiring Petrino? If they're not getting players to come there and they're not winning games, they could do a lot worse than hiring Bob.

Sidenote: Personally, I think Bob is a loser of a person and wouldn't want any school I have any sort of affinity for to hire him, but the dude is one hell of a playcaller-- one of the very best in college.

I was for his firing since the start. Killed me to see it all happen, but he left the administration with no choice. I am grateful for what he accomplished at Arkansas, but he had to go. No one needs that kind of baggage. Long made the right decision.

He WILL be rehired by another D-I school, though. Bank on it. The desire and chance to win is too great for a school like Tennessee not to hire him.

TN will not happen. They are still smarting from the Lame Kitten year. Administration is not looking for a lightning rod.
