Fun fact: teams are 0-487 this year entering the 8th when down by 6 runs or more.

And then Brandon Phillips showed up...1-487 now.

Also, probably 4-5 spots on the bench in the postseason available for these guys...

Steve Pearce .916 OPS
Brandon Phillips .740 OPS (career)
Rafael Devers .721 OPS
Brock Holt .710 OPS
Blake Swihart .576 OPS
Christian Vazquez .545 OPS

Aside from Pearce being a lock I think its basically Swihart and Vazquez vying for one spot and Devers, Holt, and Phillips vying for 2 spots. Not sure who the fastest guy is out of that bunch but i'd guess Phillips or Swihart. I think Brandon Phillips actually has a chance to make the postseason roster which would be awesome.

Devers won't be competing for a post season spot, he's their everyday 3rd baseman when healthy. He just got back off the DL. Unless he gets hurt again, he's a lock.

3rd division title in a row.

AL MVP- Mookie Betts
AL CY- Chris Sale
AL MOY- Alex Cora

What an amazing regular reason for this team. I went to 15-20 games this year including the Yankees/Red Sox rumble.

Cora for sure. Sale’s second half might take him out of the Cy Young, and Mookie’s got competition.
Great, fun, season. I just hope they show up in October this time.

1B Sam Travis
2B Brandon Phillips
SS Brock Holt
3B Rafael Devers
LF Blake Swihart
CF Tzu Wei Lin
RF Steve Pearce
C Sandy Leon
DH Rotate Bench

BENCH JD Martinez
BENCH Andrew Benintendi
BENCH Jackie Bradley Jr.
BENCH Mookie Betts
BENCH Xander Bogaerts
BENCH Eduardo Nuñez
BENCH Ian Kinsler
BENCH Mitch Moreland
BENCH Christian Vazquez

I hope this is their starting lineup for the rest of the year. Their magic number is 1 to clinch home field. BoSox can lose almost every game which doesn’t matter. What’s important is that those guys listed on the bench are fully healthy and no bumps and bruises going into the playoffs. Don’t wanna hear the excuse of “nobody’s healthy at this time of the year” because the Sox have 15 days until October 5th to get their big guns ready. I hope William Cuevas, Drew Pomeranz, Robby Scott, and others like them are used a lot to save the important arms in the pen and in the rotation. Very pumped for the postseason.

I agree to an extent. You don't want to take them completely out of rhythm. It's a very tough call for managers at this point. Rest vs rhythm.

Congrats Sox on closing out the series. A nail biter to be sure. Kimbrel did all he could to ignite the crowd but closed it out just in time. I was at game 1 in Fenway, that too was a nail biter. Time to welcome the Astros to town and work on taking that next step. Let's go Sox!

Best catch of the year in my opinion given the situation and risk involved.

It might have been the 2nd best catch of the game had Mookie gotten the unimpeded opportunity to get to the ball in the first. That was timed perfectly.

Someone w some tech capability out to put a few JBJ catch gif's in this thread. He has had more highlight reel grabs than MB and AB combined. The catch he made sliding into the base of the monster a month or 2 ago to make a catch was ridiculous.

I'd advise going all in for '19, '20 too...

RedSox hit the jackpot with Cora.

All Cubs for me. Reds are my #2. BoSox are a distant 3rd. Had a split family, and those were the two closest to me.

I used to love the BoSox, until Tom Brady made me hate almost everything from Boston.

Good luck with that. I hate the Cubs more than any team outside of the Bronx...simply because they were on TV all the time. WGN gets no play in my house anymore and thank God for the internet.

Tom Brady is no reason to hate on the Sox. I hate Brady too...

Undefeated on the road this post season.

JBJ has been the best defensive center fielder all year and his bat came alive at the right time. Love that kid.

The team won against the defending champs despite JD and Mookie being very average all series long.

Bregman is fun to watch at third. Superstar potential. Although I did love that his post came back to bite him in the ass.

Price! What a time to show up for the post season. What a huge weight off his shoulders.

The starting pitching in general was solid. The bullpen was much better than I anticipated minus Kimbrell. Brasier became an instant favorite of mine when he told Sanchez to get in the fucking box and then fanned him.

I did not expect the Sox to clinch against Verlander in Houston, admittedly. I was hoping for a healthy Sale for game six at Fenway as a best case scenario.

Sox were incredibly clutch with two outs this series. Very impressive plate discipline and approach with two strikes.

Fingers crossed for the Brewers. I like small market teams (outside of Boston) and I'm not a Dodgers fan despite my fiance's family ties. Go Brew Crew!

I love this team. Go Sox

BUMP!!

Slowly but surely, we're finally into summer...

Pitchers are finally getting their arms into shape, hitters are hitting and all of sudden second base seems to be an all star
