Drew Pomeranz has been bad all year and Joe Kelly is getting roughed up as of late as well.

Those two pitching in the same game is a recipe for a loss. Sucks dropping a game to the miserable O's especially when both Mookie and JD go yard.

Sox picked up Nathan Eovaldi for Jalen Beeks.

Looks to be a pickup for the back of the rotation with the uncertainty of Wright and Rodriguez.

Granted, the game should have been won before the 9th inning in a 2-1 game...but, seeing JBJ swinging at ball 4 with that bases loaded in the 9th hurts. Devers having an absolute wasted ab didn't help either.

Just got word today thru the alumni assoc I was granted tickets to the 8/23 game with the Indians-big thanks to Sheri Rosenberg and the Red Sox for their kindness and respect to the former players. I was fortunate the be the winning pitcher in the longest game played in that historic old park back in 1981 and it will be nice to see it once again. I was touched by their kindness and proud to have played against that storied team. Irishtrain-Seattle Mariners/Milwaukee Brewers (just lucky to be there) former pitcher.

Meanwhile the Sox keep rolling. Great start by Eovaldi today and what a highlight reel catch by JBJ. If you haven’t seen it, look for it.

The Sox keep on winning. They beat the Phillies last night in extras on a Blake Swihart ground rule double.

My first real look at the kid Nola from the Phillies..... He's nasty. He has three really, really good pitches. Ace

With the uncertainty of Pedroia, the Sox traded for second baseman, Ian Kinsler. The Sox have done well, in my opinion, as far as trades go. They've acquired Kinsler, Eovaldi, and Pearce without giving up a top 15 prospect. Nice work.

75-33 and 6 up on the Yankees

Obviously if Sale is legitimately hurt, it's a no contest. But if this move was made based on rest, I hate it. I hate that they've let Price off the hook numerous times against the Yankees. Resting Sale on this particular start makes absolutely no sense to me. You have a golden chance to put the Yankees in a hole that would be near impossible to get out of. Instead of starting the series with Sale, you roll out Johnson and he's getting rocked.

I wouldn't question Cora's decisions. You'll be talking a different tune if Sale doesn't give up that game tying bomb against Huston again in this year's playoffs..

No, I won't at all. My issue is not with resting him if he needs rest. My issue is resting him on THIS start in THIS series. Rest him against literally ANY other team in the league. I don't see the benefit in resting him against the only team in the division that could make things interesting down the stretch. That will be my tune regardless of playoff outcome.

Anyway, the game last night was incredible to watch offensively. Even down 4-0 I felt like the Sox were still in it because CC was leaving that cutter right over the middle of the plate. Eventually the Sox were going to tee off on that and I was just hoping Johnson could keep the game close enough for that to happen. All of that happened....

Johnson gave up some bombs early but also struck out a career high, 11 batters. It shows exactly what this Yankee lineup is IMO. Undisciplined power hitters.

The Sox offense was in high gear. From stealing bases all over the diamond, to wall-ball doubles and broken bat singles, to moon shots over the monster, and a hell of an athletic play by JBJ, this team looked unstoppable.

Mookie continues to hit. He reached base 6 times last night.

Brian Johnson struck out 11.

Steve Pearce had his first career 3 HR game. With a late chance for his 4th, the Yankees in true rivalry form, walked him.

Ian Kinsler is the defensive second baseman we needed. Made some fantastic plays last night.

Sox move 6.5 games up on the Yankees. Pitching matchups won't be any better moving forward in this series for the Sox.

Rick Porcello just one-hit the Yankees on 86 pitches in 2 and a half hours. Damn this team is good.

As a Yankees fan I find this disgusting! They are on cruise control, that's for sure.

Watching Benny swing the bat is like watching Ben Hogan swing a golf club. Silky smooth. Go Sox.

Great comparison as Ben Hogan was said to study Ted Williams swing. There is a great video on you tube comparing Hogan’s swing to Teddy Ballgame.

If Devers and Benny continue to progress, this team is built for success for a long time. They've added some very key pieces in free agency, but the core of this team is home-grown and young.

No reason to think those 2 won't continue to progress, it's really a question of finances keeping this core together long term. In the next 2-4 years or so (without looking up when they become arbitration eligible and free agents), they'll have some big decisions to make w no fewer than 5 young studs (Mookie, Benny, Bogey, JBJ and Devers). I put JBJ in that group only because he is a generational defensive player and if he learns to hit w consistency, he'll be a big money free agent. First World problems.

Even when they lose a game, they're fun to watch.

Mookie Betts hits for the cycle. I said it earlier this year and caught some crap for it, but I'll stand by the fact that I think he's the best player in baseball.

Porcello didn't have it tonight against Toronto. They've hit him well all year actually. This dude is a rollercoaster.

They just keep winning. They win the close ones, and they win the blowouts. This is just a special season and fun to watch.

Sox beat the Phillies on the road. Kimbrel is still scaring me. Porcello looks great against every team not from Canada.

It's getting to the point where I'm shocked if they we lose. Sadly I'm gonna be hugely disappointed if we don't win it all. Hope I'm not setting myself up for failure

Sorry for my absence. Works trumps all.

Boston has been reeling of late. Sale out of the rotation, offense slumping, and a combination of other things have sent the Sox into their first real slump of the year.

The Yankees have crept back into the picture. I'm still not overly concerned but it would be nice to see things move back in the right direction.

What the hell happened today? I shut it off when Pomeranz started serving up beech balls again. Then received an update on my phone - Sox beat ATL 9 to 8.

Apparently Phillips hit a go-ahead jack in the 9th with two outs.

Starting probably their #7 starter (Hector Velazquez), sitting 6 regulars (Kinsler, Bogaerts, Nuñez, Betts, Leon, and Martinez), and facing the Braves' ace. This was a scheduled loss and the best team in baseball put up 6 runs in the 7th inning and churned out an improbable win. All hail Brandon Phillips

Also, probably 4-5 spots on the bench in the postseason available for these guys...

Steve Pearce .916 OPS
Brandon Phillips .740 OPS (career)
Rafael Devers .721 OPS
Brock Holt .710 OPS
Blake Swihart .576 OPS
Christian Vazquez .545 OPS

Aside from Pearce being a lock I think its basically Swihart and Vazquez vying for one spot and Devers, Holt, and Phillips vying for 2 spots. Not sure who the fastest guy is out of that bunch but i'd guess Phillips or Swihart. I think Brandon Phillips actually has a chance to make the postseason roster which would be awesome.
