Chris Peterson from Boise anybody?

I would like him to be hired, but there are some coaches who find their niche. And I believe Peterson has at Boise. If I am not mistaken he has a special needs child and there is a state of the art program for the illness at a hospital near Boise. So he would be unlikely.

I also read somewhere the Northwestern coach is likely to stay put at NW for as long as they'll have him, because that is his niche.

Pat Fitzgerald. He is a Northwestern alum/former player.

I think he'd be a good fit but yeah, he's a NW through and through. I've watched him paste my Illini for a couple years now. Unreal what he's done with that program.

Yeah, I have tons of respect for Fitzgerald. And he knows all about high academic standards. But as an alum, he's not leaving NW.

I think BK's agent has noticed how this negotiation ploy has backfired. Thus, instead of backtracking like a normal person, he is acting like an agent and pushing this even harder. That's what an agent does. Never give up.

I would throw around the Vandy coach but didn't he have some negative things to say about ND during the season, through his poll voting? Or saying ND would be no higher than 7th in the SEC. The only other similar academic institutions are Duke and Stanford

Petersen is likely not leaving Boise State anytime soon. If he was going to leave, it would probably be for a PAC 12 school and it would probably be when his son gets older. He likes Boise and is able to get his son taken care of and knows his doctors etc. Not knocking ND, but if he was going to leave BSU, it would have been for Stanford. I will say that Petersen would buck the trend regarding BSU coaches and other jobs. The guy is the real deal.

Or Chuck Martin. As much as I love Diaco, I think I would rather Martin running the program. This would mean keeping the whole staff, which would be huge for recruiting.

Why am I even posting about this. Come September Brian Kelly will be the football coach of Notre Dame.

I agree with both paragraphs. :)
Martin, IMHO, would be able to handle the pressure a bit better whereas Diaco is still quite young and maybe not as experienced dealing with the spot light.

NBC SPORTS said:
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, however, the Eagles want Kelly. And if the Eagles don’t get Kelly, there’s a sense that they won’t quite know where to turn next.

On Saturday, they’re interviewing Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in Atlanta, where his current team is preparing to face the Falcons on Sunday. Other candidates include Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, Falcons special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, and former Bears coach Lovie Smith.

As Adam Schefter of ESPN pointed out during Saturday’s pregame show, it’ll all come to a head soon between the Eagles and Kelly, who is in Connecticut on Saturday to attend the Walter Camp awards dinner. Kelly is expected to meet with his team on Monday, one week after absorbing a 42-14 thrashing by Alabama in the BCS national title game.

It’s unclear whether any progress or communication has occurred since Kelly and the Eagles met on Tuesday. According to Brian Hamilton, who covers Notre Dame for the Chicago Tribune, Kelly never actually was out of the country, contrary to multiple reports. If Kelly leaves Notre Dame, it’ll happen contrary to his own words. But if he makes the jump to the NFL, he won’t be the first football coach to have said one thing and done another. And he won’t be the last.

He’ll only be the most recent.

Probably been posted already but in case it hasn't.

Either Martin or Diaco as HC would be disastrous

Can you support this claim instead of throwing it out without any support of your opinion? Martin was very impressive the last time he followed BK.

Diaco I am inclined to agree with you would be a disaster at ND because of not having been a HC before.

Bobby-the-D is still learning. Thankfully it will not come to that

And to the posters talking of a new guy coming in and keeping the old staff, that almost never happens. If a new coach arrived he MIGHT keep Alford, due to his recruiting genius popularity. Meyer kept no one at OSU except the very popular Fickell, I believe. Coaches want to coach with "their guys". Coaches who didn't often get split staff philosophies.

The question is: do we really want to hit the reset button again, or promote from within and continue building on the blueprint that is in place? At this point I choose B.
^This. Give me Chuck Martin. I also want to go to a more open spread style offense.

Let's just pay David Shaw some killer $$$ and win some titles.

I'm still not sold on Shaw. Stanford's recruiting has gone down a bit since he took over. Also, Stanford is his alma mater, so why would he come here?

He would be very near the top of the list. Probably after Bob Stoops.

Not ready at all.

Oh hell naw!

God, please no. That red-headed little brother of his is toxic and would no doubt be carted in with him. Maybe theh old Bob Stoops/Max Venebles combo that existed in the early 2000's.

Martin doesn't have any experience as a head coach at the FBS (or even FCS!!) level.
