Interesting logic by the writer of that article:

He follows this statement:
"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, however, the Eagles want Kelly. And if the Eagles don’t get Kelly, there’s a sense that they won’t quite know where to turn next",

with this statement:

"On Saturday, they’re interviewing Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in Atlanta, where his current team is preparing to face the Falcons on Sunday. Other candidates include Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, Falcons special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, and former Bears coach Lovie Smith.

So, they don't know where to turn next, even though they have 7 other candidates for the job. Are all seven going to turn the job down if Kelly remains at ND?

The only option I'd like in all honesty is Charlie Strong on the condition that he keeps most of the staff such as Diaco, Martin, Cooks, Heinstand, and Elliott.

If Notre Dame indeed does need a coach soon the obvious choice is Bob Diaco.

The best option is Brian Kelly. There aren't many coaches out there that I'd feel particularly great about. Well at least coaches that are seemingly available. It's not like ND will outspend either, considering that BK is underpaid as it is right now. Need to keep BK.

Many I'm talking to expect Brian Kelly to stay at Notre Dame rather than go to PHI. Eagles made approaches on Bill Cowher early in process

Or Chuck Martin. As much as I love Diaco, I think I would rather Martin running the program. This would mean keeping the whole staff, which would be huge for recruiting.

Why am I even posting about this. Come September Brian Kelly will be the football coach of Notre Dame.

I personally think Diaco would be a horrible choice. I do not want another first time head coach. Diaco is not the politician BK is, I think the pressure would cook him pretty hard.

Well, if BK leaves for the usual reason of "I have to do what's right for my family," who could blame him? According to USA Today, the average yearly salary for a division 1 college football coach is $1.47 million. Who can live on that? BK will have to work fries at Burger King three nights a week just to make ends meet.

I see what you did there.

Please, if BK leaves, do not hire Diaco.

I think he is a good coordinator, and I know at IE we love him. But remember just a few years ago people were very upset with Diaco with the losses to Navy and Tulsa. That was just in 2010. Then the next year the 0-2 start, losing to USF and a collapse to UM.

Don't get me wrong, he has grown and is very good at his role. But a head coach? Now? at Notre Dame? I wouldn't trust him with the program right now. I'd be more inclined to give it to Chuck Martin if we are keeping it in the house

When Kelly decides to come back, I do feel that Diaco will be given more responsibility. With another good year at ND, it will be hard for Kelly not to make the move. If this does happen, which im assuming it will, I can only think that Diaco will be the next coach. Pretty much a coach in waiting.

If Kelly leaves would Jon Gruden once again be on the radar? I personally think he would be an excellent choice and there were reports that he was ready to get back into coaching. You know he would kill it in recruiting and would win football games.

I will be glad when this is over i know that much for sure. Like ia have said that this deal has been handled really bad by all sides. IF Kelly stays they should put in the contract that he can't talk to another team for the next 2-3 years. Give him his money and the assistants their money. But don't go breaking the standards much. We like this team because the do more of the right things.

I am really nitpicking and not criticizing your post at all because I agree with it, but Diaco's defense only gave up 13 points to Tulsa. All the anger was directed at Kelly. Same with USF. Our defense KILLED USF. Pretty sure we only gave up 250 yards and if wasn't for 5 turnovers would have probably shut them out or come close to it. Diaco's only lapses have come against Navy, USC in 2011, FSU, and I guess Bama this year, but almost everyone sucked so we can't bame Diaco for Bama.

Give Diaco any amount within reason to retain him for a long time.

Whoever it would be (Hopefully still Kelly), it needs to be somebody who continues to press the University to grow the program...much like Holtz did. He would need to be able to keep after Administration without getting pissed off and leaving. A shrewd negotiator...
