I think he has received or will receive everything he wants. I believe field turf has been confirmed. Signs pointing to jumbotron. Received music. Who would want to change helmets....Never heard that. Training table received. Hangout received. The training table was a necessity to compete. Many former coaches mentioned in exit interview. Complaining...forgotten after going 3-0. Don't know much about the walk. The only thing on that list that won't change is academic standards. They were believed to be lowered during the Holtz era but put back in place afterwards and seem to be cemented once again. Academic standards is part of tradition of ND. I like them. Makes us different in a very good way. To me, he is acting extremely arrogant. He has always been arrogant but this is a little over the top for my liking. Interview.....ok we get it you can coach. Remember him saying NFL is lot possibility a few days prior...I can forgive and forget. Leaving the country so no confirmation can be learned and only controversy to surround program and more importantly the future of the programs (recruits)....that's what you call the straw that broke he camels back. Again, IMO! I'm sure I will be told to get off my high horse or be told I don't know what I'm talking about but I'm positive I'm not the only one feelin this way.

The only recruit we have lost is Alex and he never really wanted to go to ND anyway and he just needed an excuse to leave. The Mob is pissed about what he has done. No class and I wish him luck with the Gators.

BK is going to be our coach....

Assistants are going to he paid....

Longo is going to feed these guys twice as much...

Kelly is going to get Lou Holtz academic flexibility.

BK knows what went down Monday night. His players were in the right places but got out muscled. He's going to negotiate for everything he needs to do to compete at the highest level.

We've missed on a lot more "AQMs" then we know about.

<--- ???

Heard the show was being rebooted-- with he and Topenga being married and having a kid who kind of takes over his role as "boy."

No word yet if any Lawrence's will be cast.

He didn't leave the country! Why is this still floating around? The academic standards will certainly not be dropped as a whole but there will be flexibility.

But the agent didnt need to give it to Schefter and Mort for it to work. In fact, that made it less likely to work. I'm sure Armstrong thought going to the press would create public pressure on Jack, but it hasn't. It's just made people angry with Kelly. It could have, should have, been handled without media involvement.

The other thing though, is that nobody is talking about how Kelly just got beaten by Saban in the second largest blowout in BCS NC game history.

These agents are in the perception business, and sometimes the best defense is a strong offense. Nobody is talking about Kelly in terms of the blowout, they are talking about him as a candidate for an NFL job. This may have made fans temporarily angry at Kelly, but the agent is looking after Kelly's long term image and pay.

ND could call their bluff, fire Kelly and hire somebody like Charlie Strong etc., but imo Kelly and his agent hold the cards as ND has had 4 coaches in the past 12 years and a new coach would make number 5. Not exactly the blueprint for sustaining success, particularly since #4 just got you to the BCS Championship game.

Today WILL be a good day to be Irish!

Dude I love you, you know that; but, what game were you watching? (The reason that it looked like there were so many wiffs and arm tackles and bad forms is because Bama wasn't where the guys expected them to be. I think that is most evident in Manti's play. He watches tapes and locks in on tendencies better than any player I have ever seen. He had no idea what was going on Monday night. It was no mistake he had as many missed tackles as he did for the whole rest of the season!)

The coaching situation is easy. Have the Pope call Lou Saban, and tell him he knows he is a good Catholic boy, and goes to Mass and Communion every day, and offer him $20,000,000, and be done with it.

Those two things don't go together. That might help the football program but it wouldn't be good for the University. We got whooped by Alabama, sure, but we proved this year that you don't NEED flexible academic standards to win every week. We need big friggin' dudes. Longo could be the most important staff member this offseason. If EG comes out in the spring with arms like Tim Tebow then it could be a very good season next year.

We proved you could get to the game, not that we belonged. It wasn't just physical issues that plagued us, the bigger issue was Bama's depth. They were fresh all game because they can simply plug in talent all day long. We cant. That is why BK wants more academic flexibility.

What I understand by 'academic flexibility,' it merely mean we consider admitting a kid with somewhat less than stellar SAT's or GPA, not that they wouldn't be expected to live up to Notre Dame standards once they got here right?

That better be what we mean. We don't need/want suspect kids just for the sake of winning football games. We want to be in the headlines for the right reasons.

trust me when i tell you we have academic exceptions for the program.
about 2 per yr sometimes 3.
have had since CW.
maybe kelly wants more-who knows.
for these select few recruits, its not just a gpa, or a sat/act score type thing that is evaluated...its having a LOT of admissions people meet with an assess strictly on an individual basis if they think at the end of the day that individual can make it to the ND finish line (graduate and represent us after they leave), exhibit certain character traits, evaluate things beyond football after having met these kids in person. in short-they are making a judgement call on a kid. get a feel for their EQ, as well as their IQ. some kids may not be "book smart" but have phds in street smarts and maturity that if in our environment could really be mutually beneficial. its and art not a science to be sure.
do you think all these kids who take weekend long visits just spend the whole weekend at the Gug? if they are borderline they are being evaluated the whole time they are there.

I understand why he wants it, but I disagree that he should be allowed to have it. I wasn't around Irish Envy when everyone was talking about #1 in the BCS and #1 in graduation rate, but I can imagine it was something everyone was pretty damn proud of. The whole "point" of Notre Dame is that Notre Dame is supposed to do it the "right way."

Either way, even if we started admitting big dummies from Baton Rouge and Birmingham, they still have to choose to come here, which I still don't see happening with the "extra curricular" activities offered by SEC schools on recruiting trips.

I think it comes down the coach being able to admit a certain number of players with sub-standard academics.

I graduated in 2011 and I knew non-football athletes (specifically fencers) who had ACT scores in the 20-25 range. The ND average for my class was 32-33. If fencers get that kind of treatment, I can only imagine what the football team already gets.

Longo can only do so much. Look at the safety blitz at the 38 second mark of the video below. Perfect call by Diaco. Should have been a 3 yard loss. Wasn't. Talent mismatch. An elite safety makes that play.

Manti whiffed about ten times in that game. Plays that "an elite linebacker" should make. He simply didn't. Manti was a top recruit. He had top stats. He had top physical characteristics. He just sucked that game.

EDIT: It also looks like that might NOT have been the perfect call. He was gunning for the quarterback, that wasn't a run blitz. He tried to redirect at the last minute but was already too far up field.

Yes anyone but them. ESPN wants the juciest story. Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame is more of a story than Brian Kelly signing a multi year extension. Not mention ND falling just as it quickly as it rose back up would a story ESPN would love. I don't think ESPN is trying sabatoge ND and intentionally damage them by hurting recruiting or anything else. They do want the best story possible and don't care who it affects.

I do want hear from someobody, Jack, the Eagles, an ND assistant, someone.

Wilbon is licking his chops either way. Either ND will be racist for extending a white coach's contract, or the Eagles will be racist for hiring him over Lovie Smith.
