That's what Grahambo was saying. He implied Anzalone was ready to jump, so all this courting is inconsequential to what school he planned on ending up with.

I had to go back and check it. All the initials! My bad.

OK, but it's a big assumption to make that BK knew about the AA jump so what the heck, get out on that ledge and win one for the Assistant's (which I believe is a good thing, after that year they all should get bonus, except special teams ((punt returns). I wanna see them all stay. Nerve racking for recruits though you have to admit.

If Kelly ends up staying at ND, I will give him one thing. He's got some big b_lls! To let this media storm hit (which he knew it would) and to leave the country (knowing he knows exactly what is going on). That's one calculating guy. To risk loosing multiple top tier recruits only to stay to get more money-He is one confident guy. On the other hand, if he leaves-he did all of ND Nation dirty. Not due to the fact that he left. It would be due to the fact that he left town and left people dangling in the wind. I'm hoping my initial thought is corect.

Timing is horrible, but coach security is worth way more than a few commitments. Still hoping that's the deal here.

I hope your right as well and you may very well be. It's a good enough reason for a head coach to do a little grand standing. Honorable. Esprit de Corp.

I'm not actually suggesting somebody do this but sticking a FOR SALE sign in his front yard while he is out of the country would be like the greatest trolling job in history.

Can we make 2 different BK interview threads? A speculative and an informative?

I can't make sense of any of this, I don't have enough time.

So

So

What do you guys think the players are thinking? If I was a player I might be thinking everything he had been telling us about family and sticking together and working hard for each other was all crap. The most important thing is taking care of yourself first. That there is no such thing as loyalty anymore.

As far as Alex Anzalone going to Florida guess it just means he was not a good fit for ND in the first place.

I have and I see very little evidence for it.
  • The two reporters who broke this rumor are both represented by Trace Armstrong, the same guy who reps Kelly. That's not likely a coincidence;
  • Kelly has zero NFL experience, even as an assistant. That makes him a tremendously risky hire for any pro team; and
  • ND is a destination job. Thus, if you can succeed in South Bend, it's one of the few places where long-term job security is available. These rumors are about creating leverage so Kelly and his assistants get that security (which is notably absent in the NFL).

I suspect that Swarbrick is involved as well.

* Have you considered that the two reporters who broke the story are simply leveraging their connection with their agent, for their *own* professional gains, and are simply breaking a legitimate story? I would expect a reporter who shares an agent with the coach in question to be one of the first to "hear" about it.
* The NFL has been tapping into the FBS-well all off-season looking for the next Jim Harbaugh.
* Kelly doesn't seem to be too concerned with job security. He's a climber which you've acknowledged in a previous page. He's very ambitious, a risk taker, who has shown a penchant for putting himself and his own gains above his players, team, coaches, etc. The NFL in the modern landscape of football IS the next eventual step. The top NFL coaches make almost twice as much as the top FBS coaches.

It's perfectly plausible that this is just a very aggressive ploy for a bigger payday from Kelly, and he has every intention on staying at ND. But it isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility that the man is leveraging another successful college stint into an even bigger opportunity at the next level.

ND being a "destination" job (by your criteria) 20-50+ years ago doesn't tell us anything given the modern billion dollar industry the NFL has become.

....just heard an interview with Chris Ault, NV retired HC. He said he stepped down...he didn't retire...he isn't ready to go fishin'...

If SHTF w/ BK, I'd take him.

See you guys think that but there comes a point when the people simply say "no, we will not cut a check for $7mil/year when we're still paying Weis XYZ a year." There is no such thing in life as a blank check. .

"Our task this year and in coming years is to continue these positive developments in the story of Notre Dame. Last year, I spoke to you shortly after the conclusion of a $2 billion campaign, which as you know, was the most successful fundraising effort ever mounted by a university without a medical school."

- Rev. John Jenkins, Faculty Address 2012

Notre Dame has the money. The question is, do they want to spend it on the football program.

The players I talked to a) had no clue about it as I was the first to tell them about BK and the eagles and b) think its for leverage.

ND is not going to pay Kelly more than top successful FBS coaches. The market is set at somewhere between $3-$5M.

The NFL on the other hand has coaches like Bellichek making close to $10M in salary/compensation/perks.

If you are a very ambitious, successful coach with mutual interest between yourself and an NFL program wouldn't you consider the NFL?

Is the final few weeks of recruiting the best time to go on vacation? This is &$//ing rediculous. This could end up killing this class if not addressed soon. If this thing drags out and we lose key recruits I say the hell with him!

worst case scenario and he leaves do you think we can hire a new coach that can keep us on this level?

Hopefully Swabrick has some coaches on the speeddial just in case! First call would be to Urban then Bob Stoops & David Shaw! I would even look at Kirk Ferentz and Charlie Strong!

How's his recruiting class? Another Ty in my opinion. Once Harbaughs players are done so is Stanford.

It's a dead period.

If an unconfirmed rumor causes the loss of recruits, then to hell with the recruits.

Yes, it's a dead period and the season just ended. He takes time off before the season starts again on Monday.

I would expect a reporter who shares an agent with the coach in question to be one of the first to "hear" about it.

Aside from those two reporters quoting an "anonymous source" (which is clearly Trace Armstrong), we've got nothing else. No word from anyone close to the Eagles, no details about when, where and how the meeting took place, etc. Just the bare minimum that an ambitious agent would want released for public consumption.

The NFL has been tapping into the FBS-well all off-season looking for the next Jim Harbaugh

How do you define "well"? Flirting with Chip Kelly and Saban (neither of whom are going anywhere, btw)? Few college head coaches make the jump to the NFL, and even fewer find any sort of success there.

Kelly doesn't seem to be too concerned with job security.

It all depends on what he considers to be the top rung of his personal ladder. He could make more money in the NFL, but he'd have less control and a lot less job security. Hard to compare them.

ND being a "destination" job (by your criteria) 20-50+ years ago doesn't tell us anything given the modern billion dollar industry the NFL has become.

It's still a destination job today. Name me a coach that voluntarily left ND for a better gig. You can't, which would make Kelly the first. And yes, NFL coaching salaries have grown, but the salaries for top CFB coaches have grown apace. It's not the obvious next step you make it out to be.

That's not exactly sound logic. You're comparing "one of the top" in college to THE top guy of the NFL / the greatest coach currently in sports.

The truth is Kelly is currently one of the best college coaches and will be compensated accordingly at somewhere at or above $4 mil a year. He is not currently a top NFL coach and WILL NOT be paid as a top NFL coach. He's looking at comparable money in the $3mil-$5mil range if he made the jump to the NFL... and that upper end might even be a bit generous. The number of NFL coaches that make north of $5 mil is VERY few.

I don't doubt for a second that it's entirely plausible that he has NFL aspirations and would like to make a move to the NFL... but if he does, it's not going to be because the Eagles are going to pay him tons more money than he could get from Notre Dame. He would do it because he simply wants to do it.

The package ND could give him 5+ guaranteed years at $4mil+ with big incentives will be better than anything he could ever hope to get from the Eagles financially.

Alright.

This is as much as my poor heart can take. Everything is going to be fine, our bigtimes have already confirmed they're all Irish.

I'm gonna bounce before I start catching the crazy like the rest of you.

"I say the hell with him!" Right.

How quickly everyone forgets about 12-0

Why would you even post that?

That article is ridiculously stupid.

All these articles are just trying to capitalize on the bogus hysteria.
