With all due respect, but he is the commander and chief of the military..... so your statement is a little circular.

Yeah, but what I mean to say is this: did Obama search any caves? Did Obama spend a year in a desert away from his family? Did Obama get shot at? Did Obama die for this cause? Obama did a great job of executing the order, but the credit goes to the military. Period.

Sidenote: Bush doesn't deserve much credit either in case you thought that's where I was going.

This is fantastic news. However, I'm going to temper my celebration.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but weren't we told a few years ago that Osama was dead; only to find out that it was a mistake?

Let's just say I'm somewhat skeptical at the moment. I want definitive proof that it is indeed Bin Laden. The whole burial at sea thing has me stumped, but I understand completely why it was done.

This is just my opinion, but please don't let that deflect from the news.

Did the fool Reagan do anything when he said "Tear down this wall?"

Supposedly, they have used DNA testing to confirm it was him. And the burial at sea was used because it would have been tough for the US to find a country that would have accepted his body, according to the news.

From my understanding, DNA testing takes weeks. I'm not saying that it's impossible to get the results that fast. I just think they should be absolutely positive before making these claims.

As for the burial at sea thing, yeah, I saw that also. It would also make it kind of difficult to build a shrine for the POS.

Find a country to take the body?! Bring his *** back here and hang him on a pole at Ground Zero as a reminder to other terrorists not to **** with us.

That works for me too. I lost a few friends who worked at the Pentagon.

String his a$$ up and let the buzzards have at him.

BTW, Trump has already sent his investigation team to Pakistan to find the death certificate.

This is super interesting. The interwebs are pretty crazy.

I'm sure you'll all hear about this soon, but this guy live tweeted the whole event without knowing it.

Insane.

So what's this thing about a helicopter being shot down?

They are calling it mechanical failure. Troops blew it up after it crashed to destroy the wreckage.

Was it an American or Pakistani chopper? I've heard 2 dead, 1 injured... so I'm assuming it was Pakistani because otehrwise Obama is a liar.

Can we all just pretend to be Americans for 5 minutes and find happiness and/or relief in this situation instead of finding a way to BASH our President? Good Grief. Perhaps the Canadian Naked Weather Girl shoulda made the announcement and not Obama.

Also, nothing is real until the critter on Trump's head seeks out the long form death certificate!

I don't recall a previous instance of the President interrupting broadcast television at a random hour late on a Sunday to give a press conference in which he directly stated that bin Laden was shot and killed by American forces, followed by through-the-night news coverage on cable news outlets and celebrations in the streets in DC and NYC. Maybe there was some rumors about it at one point (maybe around the time of Tora Bora), but how can you not tell the difference between this and that?

The problem with some of you tinfoil hat guys is that your filter for bullsh*t is overly sensitive and doesn't function properly.

(On the other hand, some things should raise suspicion. For instance, the thing about the "mechanical failure" of the chopper smelled funny as soon as they said it, and info coming out of Pakistan appears to suggest it was actually shot down during the firefight - which should not really be surprising. I can't imagine bin Laden and his lackeys going quietly.)

Glad to see I rankled a few feathers with my skepticism. Although that wasn't my intention, it does my heart proud to see it.

So many people watch the news and take everything reported at face value, while others want additional information. Include me in the latter group.

Sorry, I don't trust either our government or our media. They've both shown in the past that they can't be trusted. If that makes me a "tinfoil hat guy", so be it.

Interesting:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is conducting DNA testing on slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and used facial recognition techniques to help identify him, a U.S. official said on Monday.

Bin Laden was identified by the assault force that killed him in a firefight in Pakistan in which he resisted and was shot in the head, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Results of the DNA tests should be available in the next few days, the official told Reuters.
The strike force was on the ground for less than 40 minutes and the operation was watched real-time by CIA Director Leon Panetta and other intelligence officials in a conference room at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, the official said.

"When word came in that the operation was a success, CIA officials in the conference room had a rather large applause," the official said.

Concerning one element of this: the worry over retaliation. I don't believe that anyone has any greater reason to worry about that than pre-Bin-Laden Death, and perhaps less so. I try to keep up with what's really happening "out there" on important issues by listening to every non-politician that appears [particularly on CSPAN panels] to give expert views [listen to enough over time and the truth begins to sift out pretty obviously].

There have been many terrorist activity experts who have spoken. Their message is that a). the CIA, etc is doing an excellent job, given the tools at their disposal, learning of these plots, and heading them off;

b). most active centers of terrorists at the moment are neither Al Quaeda nor in Afghanistan; but they are fairly well monitored; there is a worrisome Sudanese operative;

c). most terrorist groups realize now that success at the big splashy "hit" is unlikely and seem to be going for the smaller destruction type of planning [ex. bombs, walking bombs --- Iraq-like actions], and boats rather than planes;

d). Europe, Israel, and other targets are more at risk than the US;

e). the best way to eliminate terrorism is "counter-terrorism" which means going into relatively "clean" at-risk communities in those countries, and culture-building islands of security and non-violence. We are not very good at that yet, and don't spend anywhere enough emphasis at it.

My addition to this: If Bin-Laden's death causes some idiots to strike out, they will do so precipitously with probably not enough planning, and make their game more easy to uncover and eliminate. In the longer view, that could make things a bit safer.

I hear you, but this is what I'm talking about OMM:

CIA director: Terrorists "almost certainly will attempt to avenge" death of #Osama bin Laden.

The two things that are specifically worrisome are the possible presence of "lone wolves", who could have been placed here in the U.S. or in any of our allied nations, for the sole purpose of retaliation if anything were to happen to Osama. Several experts on radio shows this morning, including Imus and other, have noted this possibility and that fact that such individuals are extremely hard to find and thwart due to their nature. The scope of any possible attack would obviously be limited if they were acting alone, but it is still not a comforting thought.

The second is the information leaked by Wiki leaks from just last week that quoted a "high ranking" Al Queda official, which stated that they would set off a device (believe they said nuclear, but I do not know if they even possess this capability) in Europe should anything happen to Osama. The timing of the leak and of this announcement are worrisome to be, as it almost seems too coincidental not to be linked. I have great faith in our government, specifically the CIA, and in their ability to uncover and thwart plots against our country. But an hateful, desperate man with a purpose and nothing to lose is a scary thing.

Couple this with what they were talking about last night on ABC that they had recently captured a fifteen year old suicide bomber before he could set off his bomb who said he just completed training with some 350 others. There has been deep concern of several large scale planned suicide attacks in Afghanistan in the coming weeks and I believe this only intensifies it.

I am Washed up a work today... and I say that embarrassed. All I have to do is have an extra Coffee, or hang in there until 5 in my office. The SEAL team that engaged the enemy yesterday did it knowing they could have all been killed and not mentioned ever. My hat goes off to the Brave brothers and sisters of this Country's Service. It is a Proud moment for America!

Too easy of a death for him, in my opinion. I wish he could have been aprehended and then put in general population at Riker's Island. Bullet to the head is too quick and too painless. Plus, because he died in a firefight against the infidels, he will be viewed as a martyr.

They should have brought him back and paraded him through the streets of the US. Think about how much money the government could have raised with the "Bin Laden Humiliation Tour 2011". They could have sold t-shirts and sold out arenas to put Bin Laden on display so everyone could come out and throw rotten fruit and vegetables at him. Then throw him in a cell at Riker's and let him rot!

Oh well. At least he is gone.

He was reported as using a woman as a human shield, which leads to this discussion. If he liked Fat chicks would have he survived?
