Putin has already won. Hes taken half of the Ukraine already while the US and NATO were pleading. Now their scratching their heads, blustering and slapping sanctions while Putin forces the rest of the Ukraine to capitulate. Putin is always two steps ahead.

France and Germany don't really want to levy painful sanctions. Russia will work on them in the coming years and splinter the unity. This is what happens when your bluff is called. Obama's red line, Crimea simply being annexed with no repercussions, the Georgia invasion, the humiliating Afghan abandonment.

Putin understands that the west doesnt want to face a REAL threat. This isn't lobbing cruise missiles into syria or bombing huts with drones. The west will back down. They'll scream but that's about it.

Georgia and Moldova will be next. Think europe and the us want to go to war over them? Or with China over Taiwan?

It will probably take close to a year for Joe's and the others sanctions to be felt. Putin may have to turn to China for money. That would clearly make China the dominant communist country. I took a political science class in college where we watched a Henry Kissinger film. He mentioned how the US learned during Vietnam that you need to know how to hurt people. The US seems to be applying the sort of pressure that would hurt a country like us, not a country like Russia.
