Little slow, but great acting and interesting story line. I'm sure it will pick up. Two thumbs up.

That's how le Carre writes his stories, because that's how it happened back when he was in MI6.
Not tv shows: but both Tinker Tail Soldier Spy and A Most Wanted Man are both on Netflix, and I highly recommend both. Tinker Tailor is brilliant and A Most Wanted Man was Phil Hoffman's last completed film role.

Loved TTSS but AMWM didn't do much for me. PSH was great, but the movie over all was good, but not great IMO.

Oh agree. The Karla stories are his best. Even The Spy Who Came in from the Cold isn't as good, but is still excellent

Last Chance U was pretty good. Just finished it last night.
Even though it is based on a JUCO school. I can only imagine how similar, although on a greater scale, it is to a D-1 program.

That school needs to be shut down, wanted them to lose every game. Especially after the fight they had and how they acted after.

I think the concept of the school is a great idea. Taking in the trouble kids who have to now start at the bottom and work their way up but I also think they get away with a lot more than what the show depicted.
As an aside, le Carre was an admirer of Graham Greene. Le Carre's The Tailor of Panama is said to have been inspired by Greene's Our Man in Havanna.

Just finished The Last Kingdom, a BBC series based on a series of historical fiction about the Viking invasion of Anglo-Saxon England. If you need something to tide you over till Game of Thrones comes back, this ain't bad. Nowhere near as good as Game of Thrones though.

Is it historically based and factual or is it a 300 kind of thing where they take a historical event or time period and rape the living crud out of it?? If it's a reality based show and not over the top I'd be interested.

Almost done season 2 of "Boardwalk Empire." It's on Amazon Prime, not Netflix. Pretty good. No one does sardonic wit like Steve Buscemi.

I've always wanted to get into that, just haven't found the time as of yet... my wife has been watching the White Queen on Amazon Prime currently... it's about the War of the Roses and such... very comparable to The Tudors in that every actor is a model and there is a steamy sex scene in every episode,... but it also covers the basics of the history...

I'm being patient because it's obvious they're laying a lot of groundwork. I still enjoy it, but I hate when it takes a show 2-3 episodes to do what could've been done in one if the creators were more disciplined.

Oh, it's more like Braveheart than 300. It's meant to be a realistic depiction of historical events, including a couple of real-life battles between English and Vikings, from the point of view of a fictional character who was born English but raised from the age of 11 by Viking invaders. It's based on the historical novels by Bernard Cornwell.
The writing deteriorates a little at the very end of the series, and it never got to be as good as I thought it would get after the first four episodes, but all in all I liked it.

Just started season 2,....such a great show and I love the narrative style and ties to the real life events.
I love the entire "Columbian drug cartel" genre. Cocaine Cowboys is another fantastic watch if you haven't seen it.
The stories from those involved are just insane.

"Cocaine Cowboys" is very interesting. For those who think that "Scarface" and "Miami Vice" were over the top in their portrayals of the early 80s S. Florida crime scene, truth is bloodier than fiction.

Just watched it. The whole dance routine was so weird, I could never take that part seriously. Other than that, really interesting.
You should check out bloodline. It's a drama, not sci-fi-y, but it's good if you're looking for a new show.

What is Shameless about? I read the IMBD synopsis, and they basically say it's about a family without a mother and with 5 kids trying to make it.
