If you want to feel better, imagine Michigan and their recruiting as the O'Doyles.

Which offensive style do you favor?

My favorite playbook and the one I used to win. Would probably be considered a multiple in the game. I have a few I formations, some single back formations, and plenty of spread and shotgun formations.

All about grinding some and then hitting them with the big play.

You guys play on PS3 though don't ya?

Yes ma'am.

I have a personal policy of not starting a thread – what I have to say wouldn't warrant one and my fragile ego would be crushed if it flopped. So ... I'll park this here – amid all the other non-football comments.

St. Patrick's Day is staring us in our (sh¡t) faces. I share this (mined from the internet by a niece) by way of a gentle warning:

Paddy, Not Patty

Don't make me repeat my diatribe on the myth that Corned Beef is part of any traditional Irish meal.

*Side note: My son was known as "Packy" for a short while. Not because I knew that it was an accepted nickname for Patrick in Ireland, but because that was what it sounded like when he first tried to say his name. The moniker bit the dust when one day my father said "Come here, Packy" and m'boyo, with his flaming red hair, flashing Irish eyes and his fists firmly on his hips definitively declared to his Da "I not Packy, I Patrick Reed Shanahan!!!"

Even though he's 24 now, he's still "Packy," "Pmeister," "Pman" and "The P" to me. Just don't tell him that I said that.

Dshans, you're always dropping appreciated knowledge bombs. I had no idea that the male spelling was Paddy.

Also, what's this about Corned Beef? I love that stuff.

It's good, no doubt about it. But:

Irish Corned Beef & Cabbage Kitchen Recipes Irish culture and customs - World Cultures European

From Wikipedia (not my preferred source, by any means, but a reasonable distillation in this case):

Saint Patrick's Day

In the U.S. and Canada, consumption of corned beef is often associated with Saint Patrick's Day. Corned beef is not considered an Irish national dish, and the connection with Saint Patrick's Day specifically originates as part of Irish-American culture, and is often part of their celebrations in North America. In Ireland, the closest traditional dish is bacon and cabbage (more akin to Canadian style bacon or ham). Corned beef and cabbage became popular in the U.S. after Irish immigrants in the northeast used corned beef instead of pork in the dish. This substitution was likely due to the low cost of corned beef in the U.S.

Corned beef was used as a substitute for bacon by Irish American immigrants in the late 19th century.

My paternal grandparents were Irish immigrants who settled in Manhattan in the late 1880's. They had little to do with or say about corned beef. In Ireland (and their years at 107th and Amsterdam) St. Patrick's Day was simply a day to attend Mass and spend time with family. No parades, no corned beef. A rasher of bacon along with cabbage and potatoes (buh-day-duhs), perhaps, but no corned beef.

Both my grandfathers were full Irish: it was obviously "Paddy" to them. In good old Ireland the name is often spelled "Padriac" which makes the case even easier. However it was also true that back in the days when half the US Irishmen thought that they were prize fighters, the nickname "Packy" was seen around. There was a prominent middleweight [or thereabouts] named Packy West --- a pseudonym as were many fighters monikers. So when our good little Irish Catholic boy Bob Hope decided that he, too, was a prize fighter, he entered the ring as "Packy East". I always wondered where he got that awkwardly crinkled nose of his. Still, he was a vaudevillian dancer, so maybe he "floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee."

So every year for St. Patrick's Day when I drink a few bottles of the neon green Mad Dog 20/20, eat a couple burritos from the 7-11, and get a "massage" from a Korean lady, I'm not properly celebrating my Irish heritage??

Crap, back to the drawing board....

Yep, back to the drawing board. If you really wanted to eat like a "common" traditional Irishman, you'd load up on potatoes, buttermilk, and a hunk of meat or fish. As the diet lightened up, a hunk of meat or fish was supplemented with "The Irish Flag", an array of vegetables having a green component [cabbage, the standard], a white component [potatoes], and an "orange" component [carrots, or hand-waving in a close color substitute like tomatoes, or squash, or corn etc.]. Nowadays the everyday Irishman eats anything that the global supermarket can get, and the average Irish home cook rarely prepares "Lamb Stew".

But, I'd keep the Korean massage lady. Just tell her to wear a green hat.
