Here are my un-audited facts about the '13 season so far for the SEC (3 bowl games to go):
Looking at out of conference play (how you can truly judge a conference):
Overall: 52-11 82.5%
vs FCS: 13-1 92.9%
vs FBS: 39-10 79.6%
vs FBS > .5: 21-9 70.0%
vs AQ: 15-9 62.5%
vs AQ > .5: 10-8 55.6%
Overall, this is pretty impressive, with 10 bowl teams that are 5-2 so far. But is clearly isn't dominant when it comes to playing top level teams. If it wasn't for Georgia's lucky overtime win against Ga Tech, they would only be 50% wins against AQ schools with a winning record.
I don't know how this stacks up to others, but I personally think the Pac 12 is as good.
I don't like the SEC or what it stands for, but they do play good football and it's fun to watch. The one thing that is so annoying is the 'Auburn is awesome' talk. Last year, ND was 'lucky' to be in the championship game - and there is truth to that; but they are no where near as lucky as Auburn has been.
The Pittsburgh missed field goal and defensive stops were more normal than the Hail Mary defensive deflection against Georgia. The Stanford OT win and goal line stand was less lucky than returning a missed field goal 100+ yards - but I haven't heard much about how Auburn doesn't belong in the BCS CG because they got lucky. Pisses me off. . . Rant over!
