Manti is just above average in almost every category of a linebacker, however he does well in interceptions.

Johnny Mansiel has broken Cam Newtons record for offense, who broke Tebows (you Christians gonna hate him now?), in two less games and sat 9 (nine) quarters while doing it. The only reason he would not win the Heisman is because of Notre Dame's past, not what they acheived this year. Manit is riding coat tails of your "history".

ND's elite defense, much like 'Bama's, allows very few opponent plays per game-- only 65.8/ game, which is good for 5th fewest in the nation. ('Bama allowed 63.8/game, which is 3rd nationally). That's roughly 10% fewer plays per game than the national average.

Conversely, Sumlin's offense is up-tempo and produces a very high volume of plays-- 85.2/game, which is good for 3rd nationally. That's 17% more plays per game than the national average. Aggie fans ought to take that disparity into consideration before they dump on Te'o's stats.

If we normalize Te'o's and Manziel's stat lines according to the average for plays/ game, we can compare them more fairly.

Te'o's normalized stats - 113 tackles (57 solo), 8 INTs, 2 sacks, 2 FRs, 12 passes defended, 4 PBUs.

Manziel's normalized stats - 2838 yards passing for 20 TDs and 7 INTs, and 980 yards rushing for 16 TDs.

Takes some shine off of Johnny Football. Once you take Sumlin's scheme into account (system QB, anyone?), along with the pre-season arrest, the no-shows against UF and LSU, etc. it's clear that Te'o is the most deserving Heisman candidate.

Brilliant post. I hope IE isn't the only one acknowledging this normalization theory. And yes, how someone who was arrested in the preseason is ahead of someone who defines the award is beyond me. I don't care if Manziel wins the next 2 Heismans as long as Manti wins this one. It should be a no-brainer.

There's a big difference between "the media" and "ESPN". The media at large, I don't believe has ever 'hated' ND. They overdo it with the good and the bad; either way, its a good story and sells papers/mags/ads.

ESPN, on the other hand (which incidentally abandoned the concept of actual journalism over a decade ago) absolutely still detests ND. They have no choice but to go on with their awards show even when Irish heavy, but its clearly with a hard swallow. They hate ND and have shown no inclination otherwise over the past 3 months to this observer.

$>"hate"

This thread is absolute proof that stupid people shouldn't be allowed to breed.

The media doesn't care about schools. It's all about ratings.

Easy math Bogs. Well done. I do feel a lot of the pundits are throwing up in their mouth as they are forced by their producers to drink some ND kool-aid. The awards show last night was uncomfortable at times for one. I see a lot of them pumping us up at the same time ready to pounce if we falter an inch. Versus the mountain of excuses afforded SEC teams.

Easy, there. My thesis committee didn't think I was stupid.

You know this for a fact? I wasn't including you as one of the "stupid" people, bud. I thought my reference was clear. Keep it up and I may begin to wonder . . .
