I am a huge ND women basketball follower but her Twitter followers are not because she can ball but because of her looks.

Just to clarify my previous remarks, I have nothing against women playing basketball, but Geno is obnoxious in thinking that anyone gives a damn about him, his team or his sport. Unless you have a daughter on the team or you are a fundamentals fetishist, there is nothing particularly interesting about watching inferior athletes trying to play a sport.

"nothing particularly interesting watching inferior athletes trying to play a sport"... for one of the more reasonable posters on this board, this post sounds like an "off day". Even placing the appropriate words "to me" between "interesting" and "watching" doesn't heal it.

Let's take the comment seriously. If true, we probably would watch no sports [or anything] except all-star games. All others are afterall composed of allegedly "inferior athletes". Because most of us DO in fact watch other sporting events than all-star games, there must be other reasons why we do [other than random selection of life experiences or profound boredom].

Could it be that other things than the alleged "superior athleticism" could be motivating us to watch?? Why even watch Notre Dame football? Some of us fixatedly watch every microsecond while complaining ferociously about inferior athletic plays. Could anyone be interested because there are simply "athletes" out there to whom we feel some bond [not just family but organizationally, as when our girls win the national soccer championship --- they couldn't compete with Man-U --- or merely because, having played ourselves we just like the game?]

My too-many years of life have shown me that people find all manner of things interesting for all manner of reasons. They are not restricted to being fundamentalist fetishists. I saw many spectacular things take place on the women's court at WMU, including a couple of plays by our point guard, Maria Jilian, that I've never seen a guy make [Harlem Globetrotter quality fancy dribbling in real microsecond time to break open a fast break]. Casey Rost could outshoot any guy I've watched short of Larry Bird. For some it matters whether she jumped high while burning off the nets [Bird didn't either], for others it does not.

The "tone" of the "objection" to women's sport was too extreme in my opinion. Some people like to paint. Some people like to look at paintings. Some people will only go to the Louvre. Some people will not go at all. Seems like none of that should be cause for a harsh rejection of paintings nor painters.

Sorry for the rant. I love to see all manner of people succeeding at things in their lives, and the ladies especially so. I don't like Auriemma either, and to my knowledge almost no one in the sport does. That is one more reason that I like to see our girls put him down "with interest".

here we go again, i swear sometimes this place should be renamed PC ENVY...

its ok to make a joke, its ok to not spend your entire life looking for a reason to be offended, and some people here should give it a try.

What if somebody is offended other people actually like women's basketball? I find it funny my post was cleaned up, yet many other ones far more "derogatory" weren't.

Although I don't agree with everything he said, I do agree with some of his points. ND's existence in the Big East would have saved the conference. And I agree that no one would have left had they been there. But the conference knew what they were getting into when they let ND in from the start.

Or ND would've left right along with them...

And dollars-to-donuts says that if that had happened, it'd still have been all ND's fault.

I enjoy watching it because they actually play basketball. I mean that too. If you watch a guy basketball game 90% or more of the teams are one or two man teams. They would rather drive the lane and try a dunk over a layup. Or they just chuck up 3's. The women actually run plays and most of the time to perfection.[/QUOTE ]

I agree with you 100%. Sounds like we are in the minority on here, but I couldn't agree more. I do not like watching the WNBA because they are beginning to play like the men, run & gun, IMO. I, personally, enjoy watching any sport where the competitors play with passion, effort, and most importantly, team work. You see all of those things in high school and college lady programs (or at least I do). To split hairs a little, I enjoy watching the Lady Huskies play, but I get a little throw up in my mouth when Geno is shown. However, I would be willing to bet that those girls could beat half of the men's ciollege teams in the country.

As for being inferior, no, I would disagree with that. Can they jump as high? No. Can they outshoot? Probably. Can they ball handle as well? Yes. Do they have the meta-cognitive skills to play team ball as well? Much better. With that said, they may be superior. Now, you will argue no way, but all of this is subjective on our parts. We do not have the studies to back it up either way. The thread isn't even about this. The thread is about Geno & his statements made. So.....

I personally do not like Geno. This is something that the PR Dept at UCONN feel is a general consensus because they had ESPN do an in depth look at Geno. It was suppose to show his softer side. All it did, IMO, was show that he was an insecure, momma's boy.

Maybe. But with ND in the conference, it would have been very strong and not sure what the desire to leave would be. I am not saying they should be in q conference. Just agreeing that their presence in any league carries more weight than most

ND in the Big EAst would haved done nothing really for us at all. Just The other schools in the Big East would have been given more money and games on tv.

You don't have to like women's basketball but at least respect it. They still work their butts off just like men...a lot of times more so.

I think baseball is boring as hell to watch, but I don't say I give mini putt putt more respect than it.

Well said. Women's and Men's basketball are different sports. I enjoy both very much, but I watch them differently. In the men's game I love the power and strength. In the women's game I love the finesse and fundamentals. Comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.

As to Geno, he shouldn't be ignored because he's a women's coach. He should be ignored because he made an ignorant, infantile rant.

Ignorant? I am sure he knows more about the politics of the Big East conference than anyone on this board. He just needs to shut his big mouth and keep comments like these to himself. Other Big East coaches have given their opinions on the conference realignments and yet this idiot does the blame game while the others say the right things. If anyone is to blame it is the Big East commissioner and University Presidents for sitting on their fata$$es instead of being proactive.
