I just want the season to get going. Let's take care of business with Rice and get everybody looking forward to a nice season.

Just bought my first tickets in 5 years. Last game I saw was Weis' last home game against UConn. Found lower level endzone row FOUR for only 69/ticket. Pretty pumped.

Rice will not be the pushover I was initially expecting. They sound like a potent team who is capable of a Tulsa-like upset if we don't come in prepared to play.

I hope Kelly has instilled the mindset needed, since it always seems we have a slow start through the first three games.

I'm not going to take anything away from Rice, but that team that lost to Tulsa was a mentally-weak Weis team.

Not only have Kelly brought in talent on both sides of the ball, but he's also made these kids tougher than we've seen since Holtz.

I think Rice may hang with us for the first quarter or even half, but we'll pull away and win by 14-17.

Season is almost here boys! Long time since I've been around, but my tickets came in today and I'm getting pumped for our first big victory of 2014!

Go Irish!

My Fanduel $1 early Sat team. I originally had nothing but ND players but apparently you can only pick 4 from same team, and have to have 3 separate games.

I stuck with Bryant cause I figure he will get most late qtr carries(assuming lead). Not solid on Brown pick, id rather have Robinson but the praise from coaches makes me stick with Brown. DD would have been an obvious choice.

I'm headed up for this one with a few buddies from college. Can't wait. I always love going to the first game, when ND is 0-0. Excitement and enthusiasm always high, overwhelmingly positive atmosphere, etc.

AFAIK, charcoal grills are still prohibited on university property. Can anyone confirm or deny? Or do you know a place where I can tailgate with my charcoal grill? I would love to bring it but I won't bother if they are going to shut me down as soon as the coals get hot.

It's going to be a comfortable ND lead at half, 30-3 or so IMO. After that, a series by Golson to make it 37-3, then we see dominant running only followed by Zaire in the 4th quarter. Final score, ND 44 Rice 10.

No charcoal grills on campus, I can confirm. But if you're parking/tailgaiting off campus you should be fine.

My gf is trying to drag me to a wedding during the Stanford game. Ummm, no...you'll have to do that one on your own. Who the hell has a wedding, family reunion, bar mitzhah, ect. on game day?

Whether it's a Golson or Zaire ran offense, there is no reason the Irish shouldn't put up at least 40 on the board. With a new d-coordinator and a pretty young defense, I think Rice will score a few times. 45-20 ND

It's game week, and that feels great to say.

Game on............looks like it's gonna be wet. Hate to bring it up, but that opener with South Florida had to be one of the wierdest games I ever attended.

Yeah, people are expecting a 50 point barrage and how many times has that happened in the Kelly era? My prediction of 28-24 is more likely imo.

If ND just squeaks by Rice, then our season is essentially fucked. I don't see how we can beat anybody, minus Purdue or Navy if we're just getting by Rice. That being said, I don't think it'll be the case. I say it'll be in the ballpark of 45-10. Kelly hasn't had the weapons to put together 50 point barrages, but it has happened.

Navy (56), Air Force (59) in 2011. Navy (50) in 2012.

This year however, he possesses the weapons to do so, and do so frequently.

I'd be surprised if we beat Rice by that much. If we beat them by that much, then either Rice didn't come to play, or we're giving Michigan and future teams lots of looks at our offense in that case...which would be a waste. I expect it to be pretty vanilla after we get up by 3 scores or so, similar to the way we took our foot off the gas after Temple.

Last year Rice played TA&M, with a potent offense and how many TA&M starters out for the first half or so? And what was the score? 52-31.

I think this will be the game to see how solid our offense is. Not how flashy, open, or potent. I think we will be keeping it simple, and a bit throttled back. This is the team for the offense to dominate time of possession and bring home the win. Keeps the defense off the field, and shows as little on either side of the ball as possible.
