If Golson starts....
My optimism is growing. Two back sets, 2 TE sets, yum. If any of the WR step up, we're gold. Even if WR is not stellar, we will still be a nightmare with RB/Slot/TE.

Also growing optimism with the DBs. I saw a lot of positives (more than I though I would).

Between the picks and the fumbles today its hard to tell sometimes who started what, mea culpa, I should have used the quote function. Discredit goes to Black Irish.

How did Everett do?

Much better than Crist. Didn't kick a single fumble into the hands of the defense.

Actually he looked more like Denard pouncing on the loose ball.

Golson had a good day overall, some good reads, some good reads, and moved the ball with his feet (while carrying it). I think his stock went up today.

But I didn't see anyone win the job today. On to summer camp!

The tempo of the game was terrible, why can't they get personnel and the play in before 20 seconds, and at least get the play off before 5 like, my gosh.

I like the potential flexibility of our O to create problems. With the ability of our RBs to play slot and Eifert to split out wide, we could show a 1 TE 2 RB set and motion to 5 wide and vice-versa without making any substitutions. This will allow us to have an advantage over the defensive personnel in the game. Go nickel or dime and we'll tighten up and pound the ball. Go base D and we'll attack the outside.

Similar to what the Patriots did with Gronk, Hernandez, and either Whitehead or Green-Ellis. They could be under-center with two TEs and a RB one play then no-huddle to 5-wide on the next.

OKAY,
I have not read anyones post-here were my observations-

Golson was clearly the best QB with live bullets flying at him, great arm strength and can run. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. Hendrix also looked pretty solid, but in my opinion not quite as fluid or as athletic as Golson.
T Rees was clearly number 3, not even debateable, done with statement. If BK starts him for some weard reason and he loses games, I will have no sympathy whatsoever for BK who I think is a great coach.

Lastly, we are freaking loaded at RB, GA111, wow,Cierre and Theo the same. DD looked good at reciever. Done

Pssh he can't even step over the 5 yard line without tripping himself.

Both Golson and Hendrix are running threats. Hendrix is bigger and thus more durable (more inside run kind of guy), while Golson is faster and smaller (less durable). They are both run threats, and both of them have the ability to run well. If you don't think Hendrix is a running threat, I'd gladly provide some youtube clips to enlighten you.

My major takeaway from this game is that with the versatility and playmaking ability of GAIII + Theo + our TEs we can be an incredibly effective offense with either Golson or Hendrix. Without Golson or Hendrix, our WRs would need to be better than they are.

My other takeaway is that as much as people want to talk about our CBs "not playing good" they honestly didn't play bad. Really most of their errors are experience errors... with the exception of Lo Wood, who was mostly solid today. I don't think our defense will be "great" this year because none of them are going to play at an NFL level... but I think we'll be good enough for 8-4 if we let Golson or Hendrix put up points.

Rees is still Rees. Still floats the ball. Still can't run.

not interested. indifferent. impartial.

lol splitting hairs.

no flame war bro.

Just don't you dare say "agnostic" to mean "indifferent". Personal pet peeve. Only has to do when you're talking about your religious beliefs.

Sorry to help turn this into a nerd word war -- I'll go back to my Battlestar Gallactica now.

P.S.,

We will win more games if we run more in the red-zone.

I think we should differentiate between running threat and scrambling threat. I you're going with a Tebow-esque short-yardage run package, or hell any type of designed QB run play, then obviously Hendrix is your man. But what separates Golson is that he is a much better threat to run on a broken pass/play -- he's a much better scrambling threat (everyone who hated Steve Young raise their hands...).

And if Golson performs/scrambles well in the first one/two games*, the D can't just drop 8 on 3rd down like they did last year. You at least have to have at least a contain DE or Spy or something. Suddenly the reads get easier, the game "slows down", etc.

*Obviously a huge "if".

I wonder if the "Grammer Police" person knows that the word is spelled "Grammar"? The absurdity of substituting errors for one another is .... ummmmm ... maybe it's weird trolling.....

BUT, you wrote "I am neither disinterested nor uninterested," which with the double negatives means interested.

Riddick and GA were interested and showed it.

I thought that might be wrong when I wrote it. I was in too much of a hurry to double-check. Not quite the speck & beam routine, but it's in the ballpark. My English teacher would be rolling over in the grave. If she was dead. And also if she gave a damn about me grammar on a ND fan site.
