Anyone Watching "Walking Dead" on AMC?

I don't think he's overacting. Everything I've read suggests he's playing the character exactly how it was intended per the comic. Just a savvy, charismatic, jokester who will end your shit in a heartbeat and do it while grinning.

I think he's going soft. Or at least due for a kill. After wacking 2 big time characters in the opening season, he's let Daryl off and could have offed someone during the gun accounting fiasco. I feel like he does something crazy in the next episode, or he actually shows some empathy. He's been toeing a line of 'total crazy unpredictable killer' since the first episode IMO.

Add Karl pointing a gun at him to my point.

This is Negan. Jeffery Dean Morgan is actually playing him very well imo, he's not actually overacting. If you follow the comics, Negan has a kind of...over the top personality like that. He's very charismatic, very intense, and yes kind of cheesy...but ultimately he's pure evil. So, if you don't like Negan I would direct your criticism towards Kirkman for the character and not really JDM. That's why people are praising his performance and why he's already nominated for an award.

If I had a dollar for every actor that got an award they didn't deserve.....I really don't care what critics think.

Look, I get that he's "in character", but the comic descriptions describe their personality, not necessarily how they show that personality through actions.

One can still come off as charismatic, intense, and evil...without the behaviors I've seen. It seems very forced.

Again, my opinion

I don't think it's going soft as much as he doesn't want to kill off his own cattle.

They are his gravy train. Kill to many and his operation fails.

Maybe this would clear it up

That's just the scene from last year's ending to the beginning of this year of course, but cut for cut Morgan is pretty spot on with the mannerisms and tone that Negan sets I think. He'll bash your skull in with a smile on his face and one liners to back it up. Even the dialogue they wrote is almost word for word coming from the comics, save for the fact they don't use "fuck" at all on the show and Negan absolutely abuses the word in the comics.

This goes beyond critics though. JDM seems to be very popular with most of the Walking Dead fans from what I've seen, he's the bad guy you can't help but enjoy. Well, at least for most people anyway, maybe not everyone here.

Oh, I like JDM. But I feel he's over acting. Thanks for posting the comics, by the way.

I still think he sways back and forth too much (like he's on a ship that's in choppy water)

I haven't really paid attention to the swaying, I'll definitely keep an eye on it going forward though. I could see some bad habits being off putting to some people.

Negan has no facial hair.
Clearly he's got the character wrong.
Besides, his teeth are too white.

Arguably one of the worst episodes of this show's history IMO. Some of the absolute dumbest conversations I have seen on this show. It also highlighted probably the worst characters remaining (minus Jesus).

They simply cannot give us episodes with essentially 0 Negan, Daryl, Rick, Morgan, and Michonne. Without Glenn/Abraham and the serious decline of Carol and Maggie, the show has to feature the interesting characters more.

What...Rick and Michonne sucking face for 3 minutes wasn't enough for you?

It has been all over - they've covered all bases, now let's get to the good stuff.

1. Negan Kills Someone
2. The Kingdom
3. The Saviors
4. Alexandria
5. The Hilltop

Horrible show. I truly feel like the writing has gone downhill.

1. Negan kills Glenn and Abraham
2. Introduce The Kingdom
3. Update on everyone else: Alexandria, Hilltop, Daryl, Maggie, etc.
4. lets get into the plot and some action
5. lets continue to get into the plot and some action

Basically all they've done is spend entire episodes covering story lines that could've been lumped together into one big episode. I'm beyond bored with this show right now.

watching on Netflix the best way to watch this show. no commercials and it goes right into the next episode. I power watched season 1-5 and then it all came to a screeching halt while waiting for season 6, and now 7 with all the commercials and weeks in between episodes once the season starts...a totally different experience.
in hindsight wish I would have waited for it all to end and then watched it all on Netflix over the course of a month or two.

You could have been possibly waiting for years then. Kirkman, the producers, and the network have said there is no end in sight as long as it continues to be the best cable show.

I think that'll change once they've resolved the Negan situation. Negan is going to save the show for awhile, but after that I'm not sure the show will have a leg to stand on. I think you'll see some actors that will want to opt out after awhile too. Keep in mind that some actors have been on this show for 7 years, that's a long time to do anything in show biz. Some will want to pursue other projects. If I had to bet, some of those long time running cast members will ask to be written out once the Negan conflict is resolved, one way or the other.

I can understand the "sterotype" deal with the actors. A lot of people who jump ship from the shows that made them end up crashing and burning and never do anything of note later on. Its the show with the right people playing the characters that make everything good. Take away one from the other and its not so much.

I agree. I binged 1-6 on Netflix. It was amazing. Commercials really take away from this show (especially when an entire episode, like Season 7:Episode 1, is full of suspense).

This saddens me, honestly. One of the reasons I loved Breaking Bad was because there was an ending. I understand the premise of this show is different, as it's about survival, but still, that closure is what gave me a great appreciation for BB as a whole. I don't want TWD to become TVs next Grey's Anatomy, with its never-ending storyline and revolving door of actors/actresses. It really diminishes the effect and loses appeal for me.

There will be an end to the show likely. They're just not going to do it as long as the actors are on board and the show is doing well. Like I said earlier, I could see the show taking a significant dip in popularity once they find a solution to the Negan conflict. This season's opening episode had the highest number of views since the Season 5 opening episode, and it was the 2nd highest number of views of any WD episode ever. After that? It's been slowly dropping down into the 11 million range, which is still a lot, but it's the fewest number of viewers since Season 3! Season 5 is where the show peaked (average viewers per episode over a season), and other than the introduction of Negan the show has been slowly declining in viewers since. At some point they'll probably have to kill off a bunch of actors to save some cash, and then after another season or so they'll probably bring a conclusion.

Nothing like an episode centered on one character that has been completely irrelevant before the episode and is still irrelevant.

This season has really gone downhill after episodes 1-3. Just terrible.

More of the same...

Thoroughly disappointed with this season.

almost seems like they are milking these episodes with bunch of bs filler material to stretch out the season. ($$)

that whole episode could have been done in half of it.

So Rick and Co. are going to somehow get the women to side with them for their guns that in the end kill Negan and crew. Predictable.

It just jumps around too much now. My irrelevant question is, do the actors get paid only for the episodes they appear in? Seriously, we don't see some of these people for half a season at a time!

At the end of this episode, my wife actually said, "WTF was that?!?"

I think they are making a huge mistake not capitalizing on the emotion and tension of the season premiere episode and having so many "setup" episodes.

On a sidenote, I know this is entertainment and you have to suspend a great deal of practicality, but it drives me nuts they don't address some of the really important survival aspects like water. The quest for fresh potable water would arguably dominate over many other needs. I assumed the Oceanside community was on an island or peninsula surrounded my salt water, but seemingly had no issue with having drinking water. Just gripe I have had with the show.

You could literally kill Negan with contaminated water and while drinking it with him.

Then quickly eat a fresh horse turd for probiotics and survive while he dies.

I was thinking more along the lines of blow up their cisterns or something like that, but we can try it your way.
