Chicago. Highland Park, IL. Philadelphia. Shereveport, LA. Jackson, MS. Little Rock, AR. St. Louis, MO. Memphis, TN. Baltimore. New Orleans. Tulsa.

Our issues and our heartache in this country are not exclusive to one city. We share them everywhere. Blue States, Red States, Purple States. Big cities, small towns. It often feels like we're too broken to care for one another at this point. It's a feeling of independence in the sense that "you're on your own."

We could be doing so much better and so much more, but say that and you get told to move to Venezuela.

Well stated.

Indy had two kids and one adult killed this weekend when someone fired shots into a bounce house at a 4th of July celebration.

I lived in Chicago at one time, so I'm well aware of Highland Park and that it's about as non South Side as can be. I wasn't making any such reference to gang violence. Just an observation of Chicago in general. No offense intended, Lax. This guy was definitely a head case and had red flags flying all around him. Unfortunately, it's hard to do much about many such people until they cross a certain line, and by then it's too late.
Yeah, I think I'm a little sensitive here because I'm in Northbrook this week (which is one town over from Highland Park) visiting inlaws. We were going to bring my 7 month old to the parade in Northbrook later that day when we heard the news and were told to shelter in place and everything got cancelled. The shooter was on the loose for HOURS.

On one hand, I understand that there is no system that is going to prevent all mass shootings, but on the other hand this cocksucker was literally posting Youtube videos about shooting stuff up and we aren't doing shit to stop him or anyone else who is so obviously unstable.

Nothing will stop it 100% but no other country has shootings anywhere near the frequency with what we’re dealing with. But nothing will be done about it because dumb fucking hillbillies think they can defend themselves against the US military with their AR15s.

Care for life and care for others is fading fast. We live in a word where we went from the idea "I exist, therefore I serve" to now "I exist, therfore I deserve". We are saturated with the thought we where you are born as oppressed or opppressor. Its a race to the bottom where victimhood is rewarded. Men/boys lack identity and purpose so they find it in any way they can.

We spend more on defense than China, India, the UK, Saudi Arabia, France, South Korea, Japan, and Germany combined. If it comes down to Jim-Bob, Skunk, and Timmy defending us from a Canadian invasion we’re already fucked.

Also the Ukrainians aren’t beating the Russians with AK’s and old tractors. It’s the US intel and javelins that have kept this war going as long as it has.

Just admit that these mass shootings are an acceptable consequence for you to have your guns. It would be less embarrassing than bending over backwards making stupid arguments like this one.

These mass shooting are typically a result of some mentally deranged guy (core of the problem) pulling the trigger. Yet many call for a ban on guns as the cure.

Interesting dichotomy we have because many of those same people are all for abortions instead of addressing the core of the problem with unwanted pregnancies.

That's an emotional and very simplistic take that's wrong on several levels. There's SOOO much more to it than that, Gattaca.

Guns havent changed much in the last 20 years. People have. This is one of those things where you are asking to punish the whole class because of one bad kid.

It’s cool that they don’t have mentally deranged people with guns in France, the UK, Canada, etc. wonder why that is? 🤔

I'm all for ten year old girls not being shot at school or in church or at a store.

I'm also all for ten year old girls not having to give birth because they got pregnant when her father decides to rape her.

Like you posted earlier, seems no place in public is safe anymore. Makes it a hell of a lot harder to feel truly "free."

People have and yet there’s only one country with an epidemic of mass shooting sprees. It’s because of the abundance and ease of obtaining a firearm in the US.

People have more access to the Internet in the last 20 years. The country, society and world have changed a great deal.

In reading the Federalist Papers, in the very first one, right out of the gate Hamilton says that one of the biggest threats to the new nation are the people who are perpetually resistant to change. First paper within the first couple of pages. What was true then is very true now.

It's not one bad kid, though. This has become a regular occurrence. Yet we have elected officials at every level preaching the answer is circulating more weapons in the name of defending against government overreach when we live in the nation with the most powerful military force ever assembled.

Neither is cut and dry and we have to have exceptions, but the point was some don't want to address the core of the problem(s). Just take the easiest path seems to be the answer.

Everyone is against senseless shooting but they're okay with killing a baby because one or both partners were too lazy to take the necessary precautions. I respect Gattaca and appreciate his participation, but he deflected to Europe rather than what I posted.

Please enlighten us then Bishop. Because so far it seems the republican plan of “do absolutely nothing” doesn’t seem to be working.

How many mass shootings in the US have committed by NRA members? None. I can't think of a single one committed by an average law-abiding gun owner. Every single one has been committed by someone with major mental health issues or a career criminal, most of whom obtained their weapon illegally. More restrictive gun laws won't help with either of those. Neither obeys such laws.

All you do with more laws is make it hard for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. Look at Chicago for proof. Some of the most restrictve gun laws around and yet they have been completely useless at curbing gun violence. Now look at places where possession is legal and common sense laws are enforced, and gun violence is very low. Guns aren't the problem. Mental health help and screening and better enforcement of laws to remove criminals from society and keep them removed are the answer.

"Ban guns!!!" is an emotional reaction that ignores reality and the actual problems. Look how poorly it's worked in Chicago. It's like trying to address drunk driving by taking cars away from the people who've never had a dui.

The core of the problem for a lot of people seems to be everything but the guns themselves. I have a hard time talking to people who are ardent "back the blue" police supporters who think having these kinds of weapons on the streets benefit them in anyway in terms of their safety and the safety of the public.

Abortion rates have been in decline in America for sometime. When you talk about precautions, that delves into an entire plethora of other avenues that I'm sure there is a thread for somewhere else.

We could sit here all day and come up with Venn Diagrams for these people and those people. There's nuance and there is just ignoring the crust of a problem. Most of our problems to indeed require a lot of thought because they are layered and complex. We tend to have a lot of citizens here that simply don't have time for the complexity or just don't want to try to grasp it.

So in that sense, I would say one of our bigger issues in his country as it relates to guns, women's healthcare and just about everything else is that this country at one point used to aspire for intelligence. We didn't belittle it because it made us feel inferior.

The most recent report from the Chicago PD themselves and the ATF showed that more than half of the crime guns they trace are from Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kentucky etc. CPD recovers more guns than the NYPD and LAPD. The lax laws and easy access in other states make it easy for gun runners to go elsewhere to acquire weapons.

I went to HS with several guys who are now on CPD. One of them I also went to grade school with and have known since kindergarten. He told me they call it The Dixie Pipeline. The FBI and ATF said Mississippi is like the OK Corral. You can drive down there and get as many guns as you require, no problem, easier than buying a car. Then you head back up to Chi Town.

That's data from the Boys in Blue themselves, not Pelosi or Rachel Maddow or anyone like that. CPD and our Federal agencies crime lab.

Your statement makes me laugh and its so out of touch. This is not an issue government can solve. People are fucked up here in America.

Problem... more government.... more problems... more government. Government was never supposed to have this much power. People are so fucking lazy and want to be left to their own vices their solution is always more government. I can't parent kid... help me government. I was a drug addict and lost everything... help me government. The majority of these mass shooters are kids raised by government. What is the incentive for a mom and dad to stay together anymore? Government will step in and take care of us.

The bolded is just wrong. Even the shooting yesterday - the most recent one - the weapon was purchased legally.

I didn’t deflect. I mostly agree with you. The internet has bred a subset of hopeless losers that are mad at the world and are being fed a constant eco chamber of antisocial bullshit.

Mentally deranged people are the reason WHY. Not the reason HOW. That’s why I brought up other westernized nations. I doubt we’re the only one with an uptick in mentally deranged losers. Yet we’re the only one with a mass shooting problem that seems to be getting worse. The reason is obvious.
