HAHAHAHA!!!!!
I love it how there are all these "conspiracy theory" articles about the fan backlash, but they aren't conspiracy theories because nobody thinks their team does conspiracy.
I remember very clearly that all the major media was pointing out the weird racial stereotypes in Episode 1 as one of the many, many issues with the film. Were they right? Yes! A little of that stuff is almost inevitable, but it was glaring, so Lucas kept most of that stuff out of the next two prequels.
Here the political nonsense (which was, again, only one of the many, many issues with the film) was PC, so it must be good in every way! It must enhance the plot!
Anyway. The entire reason SW makes a billion dollars every time they turn the camera on is because of passionate, invested fans. It's different than most films or even series, and can only be compared to a few, like Harry Potter. So you shouldn't be surprised when that same passion that makes you billions, also gets you a ton of backlash when insulted. I know they have a new broader audience in mind, but they could have been a little more respectful of the history of the series in the transition. It would have motivated the old farts like me to buy more merchandise for their wee ones.
Mark Hamill, democrat and Trump hater, even agrees that this is not his Luke Skywalker! It's not politics!

Maybe ease up on the rhetoric there, guy.
Regarding things like her swimming, its just another example off sloppy story telling. They lean hard on her upbringing to explain a ton about her abilities and demeanor, but don't worry about it at other times.
RJ, for whatever reason, wants to act like he was making some stand-alone movie that should be appreciated for its broad narrative themes and storytelling- details like this are superfluous (sometimes...). He can't have it both ways. He should have known what he was signing up for. This is Star Wars. It's fun to have to keep track of all those strings, and goodness knows Disney can afford to hire some nerd technical advisors. About that SW Encyclopedia that I was about to buy... not so much anymore.
