If you guys thought that movie sucked, I can only assume you’re giving ANH and RotJ a pass because you saw them when you were kids and refuse to watch with a critical eye now... they have as many plot holes, lack of character development, etc.
And this trilogy’s plot was dictated by the original trilogy. It is literally the most realistic continuation of the previous plot. Vader and the Emperor going down isn’t “ring in the volcano.” The rest of the Empire isn’t tied to the spirit of Palpatine, and the hundreds of Star Destroyers and thousands of Empire officers aren’t going to explode or fall into a newly-formed chasm as the Emperor’s spirit dies and his tower falls.
I submit this movie can be nullified from SW canon. My case?
Exhibit 1- no Wilhelm scream
Exhibit 2- no 1138 reference
Exhibit 3- “I have a bad feeling about this” absent
The prosecution rests.
Absolutely. The star wars movies are not materpieces. They arent even excellently done. It seems to me that people are wanting a Citizen Kane of Godfather Part II space opera. They are kids movies. I disagree with many things I have read catching up in this thread. It saddens me that people cant sit back and just be. The last 40 minutes is probably the best shit ever put in a Star Wars movie. My man wife was crying about Luke. I was gasping when Projection Luke showed up, they blasted the shit out of him and after the dust settles he walks out into the red soil that looked like a huge wound openly bleedng from the cave. That was the most baller shit ever. There is a ton of huge symbolic call backs and references, tones, feels, and none of that is undone by Rose's crushing on hero Finn.
Spoiler alert: The Star Wars Universe exists outside of the Skywalker family Sqwabble even if they are a huge part of the story

I really don't see how this movie was any more cliche/bland/predictable than the OT... I love Star Wars to the next level, but let's not act like it's some divine entity.I'm expecting better plots. Disney was given the best fictional universe in the world and they blew it.
The Last Jedi sucked. It's really that simple. Its lows outweighed its highs and 100% Disney's fault.
Not invested in Rey because she's a no one? After giving it several hours to marinate, I’m actually starting to hate the film. I almost don’t give two shits about episode 9 now. It’s like, who cares what happens next. I’m not really invested in Rey at all, especially if she really is nobody in particular. Snoke was basically a worthless charachter. Kylo REN, the petulant brat, is in charge of the enemy. Well, shit, we know that won’t last, he’s a chump. And Luke, before Dying for no reason, declares Rey the Jedi heir, yet, he trained her for maybe 3 days. I tried really hard to just go with it on the prequels, awakens and rogue one gave me hope, but this thing is just a sack of shit now.
1. As someone else said pretty sure the Wilhelm scream was used right as BB-8 was shown in the AT-ST
2. Idk about this one but i'd be surprised if it isn't found in there somewhere.
3. Poe says it pretty early on.
That's pretty awesome!
How old is he?
That’s not bad!
When I was young, I had an action figure of one of Palpatine’s elite Guards. They had similar red armor. It was always my favorite design for a character.

This is a total copout defense when they make bad movies. Lucas wouldn't have been bummed about not getting an Oscar in 1977 if he was just making a kids movie.
You can make a movie kids will really enjoy in any setting. They didn't need to lazily rehash the previous trilogy for the purpose of making it something kids will enjoy. Kids will enjoy any explosions and sword fights. Transformers shows us how low the bar is for kids.
No, Poe does not say it.
People complaining about the casino world are missing several things I believe (or at least being far too critical and dismissive). Look at the story that was told while they were on the planet. It added a new planet to the universe. It added depth to the story about the First Order's impacts. It added depth about war profiteering on both sides of the conflict and emphasized that imbalance is virtuality unavoidable. Rose and Finn restored some balance in freeing the animals and ending a cruel practice for example. I think it was a necessary diversion to the overall Star Wars universe Disney is expanding on even though it wasnt absolutely necessary to move the story along.
What are you talking about LOL. The entire sequence was absurd just deal with it
The more I think about the movie, the more I just remember all the bad parts. You could animate some of those scenes and make a Family Guy episode out of it. Seriously, imagine Lois being in a ship, it exploding, and then her just like floating back into the ship unharmed.
Imagine Chris milking some cow then chugging the milk.
Imagine Quagmire as Hux having the conversation in the beginning.
It's not even a reach.
^^^^^^^^ this
Also, I can see a family guy moment where no one can agree on the Luke attacks Kylo in his sleep before he did anything wrong sequence. The damn thing is an abomination.
Huge Star Wars fan and I just saw the movie.
If you don't give two craps about SW it might have been pretty entertaining at parts, and was sometimes cool to look at.
If you are a SW fan, it's tragically, epically bad. But not in a Prequel trilogy kind of way. Those were at least bad movies in the SW universe. This movie was incredibly bad on every level, seemed indifferent to the broader story (especially TFA), and actually killed every avenue for a potentially interesting finale.
Almost every single decision in the movie either undermines an interesting plot line, sucked, or just made no sense. It either falls apart or is boring and pointless. It's crucial not to think about anything that happens, or it instantly crumbles as worthless.
I don't understand how I could possibly care about what happens in that idiotic universe they've created.
It's hard to understand how they recover from this.
I feel sorry for you guys lol.
Am I the only Star Wars fan that thinks that all of the movies are cheesy/cliche?
I don't see how this movie is any worse/better than previous movies. All the movies (except for maybe the prequels) are more or less the same thing... Balance of good/bad, gunslinger/leader, impulsive/wisdom...etc.
If anything, one of my biggest complaints about the whole series is the reincarnation of the same story over and over again... First, Luke, then Anikan, now Rey...
As much as I love these movies (and still do) to judge one better than the other is pretty silly when they're all silly movies.
