You should have a Star Wars marathon with them before taking them to the new movie. Get caught up on the original trilogy, screw the prequels. They would love it.

FIFY

Three greatest films ever:

Godfather, Goodfellas, and...
The Rundown.

FIFY

Big question.....for those of you with kids.... are you gonna see it first with your kid or are you gonna see it first by your self. There is a selfish part of me that feels I need to see it by myself..Seriously on the fence here.

I'm going to take the kids. Not opening night, although it would be kind of cool cause my kids are young and they'd probably like to see all the fans dressed like Jedi and stuff. I'll probably see it with my kids first, and if it's really good I'll go back by myself or with my buddies, cause I know a few of them will go multiple times regardless. A few of them collect Star Wars memorabilia and other collectibles, like GI Joe stuff and Transformers, and their entire income comes from the sale of that stuff. They live very well, it's crazy. Nerds will pay top dollar for toys.

I can't wait for this movie. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I work at the theatre so hopefully I'll be able to secure some tickets. I recommend anyone who has never seen the movies watch them in the Machete Order. It goes New Hope, Empire, AOTC, RotS, and RotJ. It seems weird but that way captures the entire saga for me the best.

I like how you left out Phantom Menace

Do people really like AotC over Phantom Menace?? Clones was a nightmarishly bad film...

They're both pretty bad, but there was less Jar Jar in Clones. For me Clones is pretty hard to watch though because I don't think they used one single live action set, it was just green screen overload. The entire movie felt fake. At least in Phantom Menace they reused Tatooine. The more green screen they used, the less immersive it felt.

Which part?
The part where a Trade Federation is blockading a planet to protest increases in taxes (Which would have benefited them financially)?
The part where the blockade can't seem to stop the Queen's ship from escaping? Furthermore, how did the shield generator even get hit while the shields were up? Also, how were they "sitting ducks" when the ship never even gets hit again once the shields go down and the droids take 2 minutes to go out and fix said shields?
The part where said planet, with a giant ass reactor (The one the Jedi/Maul fight takes place in) doesn't have the technology or resources to survive during this blockade? Why do they keep talking about their situation being so dire?
The part where the Senate had no idea what was going on in Naboo, despite the fact this civilization possesses technology to communicate and travel great distances in a short period of time?
The part where the Droid Army decided to land on the other side of the damn planet to start their invasion (The side with the Gungans) rather than land right outside the Capital?
The part where Palpatine tells the Trade Federation he wants the treaty signed, despite the fact that would have ended the conflict and completely destroyed his plan to get a vote of no confidence and eventually become the Emperor?
The part where Anakin built a Protocol Droid (C3P0) for his mother when his mother had no use for a Protocol Droid?
The part where the Trade Federation decided to use a very visible gas to try and kill the Jedi at the beginning of the movie, instead of poisoning the tea they served them instead?
The part where the Trade Federation never fingers anyone as the mastermind behind the entire invasion? You would think space detectives could use those holograms of Darth Sidious to trace it to Palpatine. Further, what are they getting out of the deal by following Palpatine's plot?
The part where the Senate sent the Jedi's to investigate the situation on Naboo, which was setup as part of Palpatine's ploy to usurp power, and Palpatine decides to have the Jedi killed before they can complete that mission?
The part where Obi Wan and Qui Gon showed their ability to use Force Run on the Trade Federation ship to move quickly away from the droids, but Obi Wan never bothers to use it during the fight with Darth Maul to get through that corridor with the force fields and save Qui Gon?
The part where Qui Gon decides to check with the smaller junk dealers first to find the new part for the ship, and he believes Watto, the very first vendor he talks to, that he's the only one with the part? Who manipulated who with a Jedi Mind Trick there?
The part where Qui Gon wanted to keep a low profile in Mos Espa, so he decides to take Jar Jar Binks with him?
The part where George Lucas made up some stupid shit and created Midi-chlorians, completely ruining the Force?

Do people actually like Luke more than Han? I obviously like Luke but seeing Han is 10x as orgasmic as seeing Luke for me.

I'm not going to take advice from a site that lists Don't Mess with the Zohan as one of the best movies of 2008.

haha... just pointing out we are talking about separate things... PM had the greatest potential of the prequels imo... holes like what you pointed out and the cartoonish cgi and jar jar ruined it of course but I can appreciate the core story more than the other two... just me.

Agreed, but there are people... my wife for one was SO excited to see Leia last night and said the only thing missing was Luke... she's more of Jedi girl and isn't that big on Han (she's dumb).

I love me some Jedi but Han Solo is my #1 movie character of all time. Indiana Jones is #2. Did I mention I like Harrison Ford?

I like Han way more, but I think Luke is more important to the story. I just really hope they don't try to go full circle, and have one of the main characters be one of Luke's kids.

Might be a dumb question, but how have spoilers leaked already? If it's from some asshat working on the film, then that person deserves to thrown in jail. Some people just have to ruin everything I guess...

Possible Spoilers??**

I mean maybe not, since I've hardly paid real attention but I'm pretty sure the girl is either Han's daughter or niece (Luke's daughter)... it sounds like the former but could be either...

People like Jedi. For the younger generation, Star Wars is a much more Jedi-focused property than the original trilogy. Video games like The Force Unleashed and Knights of the Old Republic have made the lightsaber far more iconic than the Falcon.

Han is definitely > Luke, but Luke is cool in his own right. Luke is kind of bland, in his own way, which is supposed to allow the audience to connect with him better. That is, of course, until he learns to use the Force.

Yeah, there are definitely things I like about Phantom Menace, despite it's flaws. While his character's thought process doesn't always make sense, Liam Neeson is a certifiable badass. Ray Park as Darth Maul was pretty damn awesome, although Christopher Lee is a legend and pulled off Sith Lord Count Dooku pretty damn well at age 80. Seeing the origins of Vader and the other characters that shaped his story, like Obi Wan, was pretty cool. I dunno, I think it's harder to list what I enjoyed because so many things fouled up the formula. I can see what you're saying though, and thinking back to the stories of RotS and AotC, I might actually like the story of Phantom Menace better. There were equally awful scenes and characters that fouled up the other two movies, like General Grevious, and love scenes between Anakin and Padme "No, I love YOU more!" Han and Leia didn't have to do cheesy lines like that.

One thing I'm really interested to see is if they can somehow pull off making these new movies seem like they are taking place 30 years or whatever it is after the originals. I think the whole "the stories are all true" stuff from the trailers is a good start.

I don't mean making the original characters look older, they clearly don't need help with that. I mean I want them to make me believe that the Star Wars universe is 30 years removed from the events of the originals.

My order is:

Han
Darth Vader

C3PO
Luke
Chewie
Boba Fett
Obi-Wan

Lando
R2
Qui-Gon
Yoda

Then everyone else is at another tier.

I find your lack of Fett, Lando, and Obi-Wan before C3P0 disturbing...

"the stories are true... all of them" actually was a big part of why last night lowered my expectations... are we really to believe that just 30 years after a massive galactic civil war the general population only knows of such things in campfire stories that aren't taken serious anymore?? That would be stupid... I did think though, maybe she's Luke's daughter and for some reason Han and Liea had to raise her and protected her specifically from the truth, with the truth in the form of fables (stranger than fiction), and now she's realizing her father really is this Returned Jedi and her Aunt and Uncle really are galactic heroes... but of course I was searching/grasping for any explanation for that line other than, it's 30 years later and everyone just forgot/moved on...

I find 3PO hilarious and he's the one consistent link throughout all 6 movies. R2 becomes some crazy badass droid in the prequels. If you ignore their appearance, the original C3PO and the prequel C3PO are really similar.

I was greatly saddened when the actor that played Wedge turned down teh opportunity... they wanted him to be in it... I REALLY hope they just found another actor instead... THAT would be a jump out my seat moment for me if his character makes another key cameo....

C-3PO is a robot Jar Jar Binks.

Yeah, I said it.

I doubt there's much of an interplanetary news network outside of the Empire-controlled media. It's unlikely that any of that information ever reached remote systems outside of cantina gossip.

It's like when the hobbits return to the Shire after the war of the ring. Most hobbits have no idea what the Pelennor fields are or that there was a battle at Helm's Deep.
