anyone know who they did with the verbal commits and early signing?

Michigan had twenty-six verbals and out of those, twenty-two signees.

Of the four who did not sign, their first QB commit J.D. Johnson, retired due to a heart condition, but Michigan will honor his scholarship. Gaige Garcia (RB), Nick Patterson (TE) and Micah Mazzccua (OG) did not sign. Garcia wants to pursue football and wrestling and will probably be on a wrestling scholarship. Patterson is the brother of Shea. Patterson has not visited Michigan and is taking his OVs elsewhere. He probably won't end up signing with Michigan. No word on why Mazzccua did not sign. He has been fully committed to Michigan and not taken any OVs elsewhere.

Darion Green-Warren (CB) is expected to sign with Michigan later, but has taken other OVs to Nebraska and USC.

I have Michigan at eighty-nine scholarship players now, including Black's transfer.

gaige was initially going to be on football scholarship and took a wrestling one so he doesn't have to count against both programs

That depends on the number of grad transfer QBs he takes in the next couple of cycles. No italics.

Dunno why anyone wants to sign up and play for this guy.

Between O'Korn and Patterson idk why any recruits trust a word that comes out of Hairball's mouth.

Wait, I thought if you were on a scholarship and played football it had to be a football scholarship to prevent schools from giving out scholarships for other sports and loading the team up....

this info came straight from Gaige's dad...my buddy is good friend's w/ his dad...gaige is an ELITE wrestler was #4 in country....may have moved up...but he signed his LOI back in november when wrestling allows it

Three-star running back Gaige Garcia does not have to sign a football NLI because he signed one to wrestle at Michigan in November.

I believe he’s not a football counter if he doesn’t see the field. So it doesn’t matter while he’s redshirting. But they will have to make room for him if he is appearing in a game.

Anyone who participates in football is counted in that sport, even if he does not receive financial aid from the football program. An exception exists for players at non-scholarship FCS programs who receive aid in another sport.[54]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I#cite_note-82

not sure if participates means actually being on the field for a game or just being a part of team???

Right, he doesn't have to sign a LOI for football, but I'lm pretty sure his schollie will still count against football #s. Am I missing something here?

That’s my understanding. Just explaining why there was no NLI. He should count toward the 85

I was under the impression that a two sport athlete who was offered a football scholarship and committed, but took a scholarship in the other sport, counted only when he took the football field in a game.

I expect the purpose of the rule was to prevent stashing a football player through another sport to save the scholarship and avoiding counting it towards the total. He could practice and suit up like a walkon. But if he is accepting financial support for athletics through the university, he counts when he plays that sport. It would have been nice to have Jeff Samardzija play football but be on a baseball scholarship.

Big 10 rules do restrict total scholarship counts to eighty-seven after the February NSD. If the count seems to be above that, notification to the Commissioner's office of who will not be on scholarship must be made.

There are different kinds of scholarship offers, too.
Recruiting’s Biggest Bait-and-Switch: The Uncommittable Scholarship Offer (SI)

Harbaugh and others have been pulling scholarships before signing day or switching them to different kinds of offers even though the recruit has been committed for months.

Here's a story from a year ago of one recruit who thought he was headed to his dream school in Ann Arbor to play football.

Shot at Michigan gone, Tyrece Woods joins other recruits with late decisions (Detroit News)

scUM deserves all the bad things. Seeing them get raped by Alabama was a beautiful New Years treat.

I saw a fun stat on the Twitter this morning. Rutgers has more bowl wins (6) in the last 20 years than Michigan (5).

(For the record Notre Dame also has 6).

I was impressed that they has the lead at the half. Gotta wonder how much worse it would've been with Tua playing.

Bama traditionally plays 3rd and 4th Quarter FB. I cannot tell you the number of times they have been tied or winning by 3 against the School of the Blind and won by 30 come end game. Just the way Saban plays.

So I wouldnt take that as a reflection of Michigan playing good FB or being any good. That is just Saban ball.

I love the current state of Michigan football. Just good enough not to take a giant buyout on the chin to get rid of Harbaugh, but not good enough to be nationally relevant. Hate that we lost to this dumpster fire of a program.

The game scUM played yesterday reminded me a lot of watching Duke and Bama all the way back in week one. Duke played tough up front and kept the running game in check, and limited big plays (for the most part) to their skill players on the outside. They were able to run the ball pretty well and finished a couple of drives, took care of the ball.

Second half was an entirely different story. Saban and Co. made adjustments and the talent gap was exposed.

Harbaugh got thoroughly out-coached in the second half. Made me happy. And I love that Saban went ahead and scored with under a minute left. That pissed Harbaugh off enough to call a TO with 0:01 left in the 4th, just in time for Patterson to throw a pick with the last throw of his scUM career. Beautiful ending.

I think the rule is he has to wrestle first. If he wrestles as a freshman he can then play football as a soph without a scholarship.

Surprised Harbaugh pulled this off tho as wrestling scholarships are usually partial.

Saban despises Harbaugh. Has for several years. That last TD was absolutely an "Up yours" insult with a dash of nose rubbing.

Any reason Saban would dislike Harbaugh? I don't recall many prior meetings between the two off the top of my head.
