I got a little chuckle from this article. I just kept thinking to myself that it would've been the equivalent of Tommy Rees committing to ND and stating he's going to do his best to help recruit a bunch of 5 star kids. Let us know how that works out. Who knows, the kid may be a great salesman, could be the next Lane Kiffen.

Michigan QB commit Alex Malzone recruiting Damien Harris, Chris Clark, others | MLive.com

Malzone, a three-star 2015 quarterback prospect from Birmingham Brother Rice High School, will play quarterback at Michigan.

And in the meantime, he's taking on the responsibility of trying to find some high-level teammates to join him.

Like Shane Morris in 2012 and Michael Ferns in 2013, Malzone says he's going to do his best to help recruit some of the country's top prospects in the 2015 class to Michigan.

Including former Wolverine pledge Damien Harris, the nation's top running back.

"I reach out to him earlier tonight," Malzone said Wednesday. "We'll see what happens."

That is funny. My first reaction is "who is Malzone?" He's not one of the names that jumps out when you talk about this year's recruiting standouts.

Good for him for being a leader. But it's like promoting a deckhand to captain after the Titanic hit the iceberg. That bitch is still gonna sink.

stars are surely nice for QB's i agree, but yes as a RB and recruit in general it's gotta be positive for the signal caller in your class to be making you feel wanted.

Tennessee Titans' first-round draft pick Taylor Lewan faces a court hearing in a Michigan assault case, the Associated Press reports.

The former Michigan offensive tackle is to be arraigned Monday in Ann Arbor District Court. The 6-foot7, 309-pound Lewan is charged with three assault counts stemming from a confrontation with two Ohio State fans after the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines last fall.

Lewan was asked about the Dec. 1 incident during a news conference at the NFL's scouting combine. He said he "wasn't in any fight" and "was actually breaking something up."

Defense attorney John Shea says his client's "position is well-known from earlier comments."

The 22-year-old Lewan is charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault and battery.

Lewan's reputation as the college version of Richie Incognito will certainly not help his case.

My hope - we play Michigan State again - they have been good to ND. We never play Michigan again. Fielding Yost - a true Michigan man. A total anti-Catholic bigot.

Do not "fuck Michigan" - totally ignore Michigan. Notre Dame will be in the playoffs. Michigan or Meechigan or Meatchicken or "the Skunkbears" will not be in the playoffs.

We are Notre Dame. We do not need Michigan. We will not do anything to promote their football program.

Stomp their ass in September and say so long, adios, sayonara, good bye asshole Skunkbears.

You know, if Hoke is Michigan's Willingham, things are going to get worse. How desirable is Michigan really going to be to a coach?

Now that Dantonio is flexing his muscle, and with OSU and PSU looking to stabilize, Michigan is going to have to rely on what they did well historically. They are going to have to use overwhelming force and talent to beat up on the little guy. That is how they compiled the most wins. Carefully scheduling the right opponents. When didn't they play ND? During 80% of ND's elite years!

And as I see it, the desirability of Michigan as a coaching destination is going to be for a young up and comer, who has nothing to loose. It will be a gamble from both ends. But the old guard is too surly to take their medicine and rebuild. I am hoping for a spiral down because if the program's blinding ignorance.

And when every team that comes into the big house wins, you hear the echoing cry, "FUCK MICHIGAN!"

I fear the right coach will do wonders there. Hokes time is up as far as I am concerned. He is not Willingham by ANY stretch. He actually recruits well. The unfortunate part is that he can't seem to coach all that well. Firing Borges was step one and I dont think it will last much longer if they keep up the 7-6 years. I think there is a reason why they have the highest paid assistants and that reason is that Hoke can't coach.

So does hoping for michigan to go 8-4 sound about right? Good enough for hoke to keep his job, but bad enough to keep some recruits away and diminish excitement about the program?

I hope Hoke wins 9 games. This would be USC all over again, and we all wish Kiffen was still there.

Having to recruit against PSU which is on the rise, Urban at OSU, and a new, exciting UM coach sounds awful in such a condensed area with marginal talent.

BUT where does a good coach come from??? they are going to go after a Meatchicken man or try an attempt a big name from somewhere...just remember florida could be coming open at the end of the season which is more enticing w/ being in sec, talent surrounding etc....WHO would even be considered??? harbaugh-no, miles-no, and up and coming coach such as a franklin just inked a deal so he is out....ED o...lol

I think if they have a subpar year overall, Hoke is gone. Nussmier could be the next guy in IMO, especially if the offense is acceptable. They have missed on RR and now Hoke. The next guy must be a homerun.

i think Harbaugh is a valid option for SCUM if Hoke was booted, seems like there are power struggles going on between him and the 49ers brass, i think he would jump at the chance to go back to AA

there is NO homerun coach available...just went and looked at the coach rankings and i can't see ANYONE that would be a homerun hire that would leave where they are at to go there...they have been down and continues to make it less appealing...like i said the florida job might be open at end of year which would be the best job available unless some kind of stunner happens and a coach bolts to nfl ...otherwise even Nussmier who isn't a head coach would be a BIG risk imo...

I hear you, but I'm willing to bet my existence on this site it's better than Hoke.

Someone will come up, someone we've never heard of will take a shitty team and win and be the next whatever-that guy at PSU's name is, and will come in with a lot of energy and recruiting momentum, and heaven forbid it actually translates to the field. As for 'there's no homerun coaches avaialable'. It seems that way now, but wait until someone comes out of no where.

Hoke can recruit, but I don't think he's a winning coach.

Love live Hoke!

I guess what I meant but did not state is that they are going to have to get a guy like ND got in BK. A lower tier coach that has deep history developing low star kids. I would argue that BK has been a homerun for ND. They need a guy who gets Michigan and can get them back in the fold. Michigan can get the star power there. They always could. They need that to translate into wins. Who that is? IDK, but I think Nussmier could be that guy. This and that UM fans need to take a realistic step back and see that their program is in deep shit.

Agree with what you say. What sucks for them is that they thought Hoke was that guy, lol.

Out of the 11 national championships ND claims, they only played scUM IN 1988 and ND won.
If you look thru the history of the two programs, scUM seems to have played us in some very fortunate years for them.

IIRC, he left Stanford for SF in the same offseason UM's job was open right?

That would be some indication he simply prefers the NFL to the emotional pull of UM. Things can change, of course.

They also thought RR was their guy. Looking at the guys RR brought in and Hoke has, i cannot understand why they are so bad and yet manage to beat us. If they could stop anyone from putting up 30 points they could easily go undefeated but they play so undisciplined.

I would be shocked if they had a bad enough year that they fired Hoke, that they would turn around and promote an assistant. The offense would have to be beyond acceptable for Nussmier to even get a sniff. He would have to have a top 10 offense to even be considered and even then the chips would be stacked against him.

9-3 is the floor for them this year. Anything less and he should be fired. Harbaugh is not coming to Ann Arbor. That would have happened after Stanford. Harbaughs dream was to coach in the NFL and he has done it.

Harbaugh explicitly called Michigan out for parking their football players in joke majors. I think that bridge has been burned.

This might deserve its own thread but can anyone tell me whether we have any former players who are successful coaches? I honestly can't think of any. I think that's surprising considering we get "smarter" student athletes than the average school.
