The Race for the Number One Recruiting Class | mgoblog

Interesting blog post from Mgoblog on recruiting and one guy's subjective calculations of the best recruiting class. He first looks at UM, MSU, ND, and O$U, then compares some of these with Bama, Florida, USC and others.

One of the graphs he uses it kind of interesting. It starts with the best recruits in each class and moves down the list, and shows what kind of decline each class has relative to the top-to-bottom recruiting class. I hadn't seen this done before, although I'm sure it exists, and it shows we really have the best class out of most of the teams discussed.

Michigan just got their 2nd '14 commit, from IL OT Denzel Ward. Kid is listed at 6'9, 295 already. Big boy.

Denzel Ward just decommited from Michigan. That didn't last long.

Edit. I guess Michigan 'parted ways' with him. Interesting.

Hearing that Michigan pulled Ward's offer b/c he transferred to IMG academy in Florida w/out telling Michigan coaches. Apparently he didn't tell his HS coaches either and just left.

Denzel Ward ‏@DW75_
Just to let it be known the Michigan coaches still told me I have my offer and they're still recruiting me. It was my decision to part ways.

Denzel Ward ‏@DW75_
"@SamWebb77: Ward is not a decommittment, #Michigan dropped him..." Did they really? Oh guess I thought wrong.

Umm what.

That's worse than the Auburn tattoo. That is the best rivalry in sports and he is not giving a **** about its magnitude.

One one hand he doesn't really love Ohio State is he is willing to play for Michigan, he just doesn't understand the hatred.

On the other, he's 18 and Michigan has been dominated by Ohio State since 2004, so he was in like the fifth grade when the rivalry was competitive. Kids these days don't remember the 1990s :( haha

This is more an OSU update but Michigan related:

OSU landed their 2nd top player from Detroit (Lawrence Marshall and Damon Webb)

I'd imagine UM has the same frustration we have with with not getting Chicago kids

Rivals has Michigans OL pull rated number one in the country. I really like their class but I like ours more. I can't tell if I'm just being biased and have done more research on our guys.

What say you? Biased opinions aside.

I think that we both recruited to our specific hauls, and did a great job at that. We recruit more versatile, athletic tackle types for our 'spread' while they want big road graders, and I think that we both pulled elite hauls for our specific needs. I wouldn't trade our haul for anyones, but I do think that Bosch, Dawson and Kugler in particular are very solid players.

So basically to the point where you wouldn't trade with them and feel like they wouldn't trade with us? I'd agree. Almost along the same lines as runningback. We pulled two really exceptional spread runningbacks. They pulled one stud power back and a really good compliment back. Good pulls by both schools for their system.

Agreed. Tulley-Tillman is overrated IMO. He'll be a project.

Braxton Miller was OSU's whole offense last year. He gets injured and OSU is in trouble.

Michigan fans are freaking out...I think the buckeyes will kick the **** out of them every year

About what? Where?

Everything I've seen on Michigan boards and heard from the numerous Michigan fans I interact with is that Hoke is the second coming of Fielding Yost and Michigan will win 100 national titles before he retires.

That's what I've seen as well. They love Hoke and the class they were able to bring in. The only legitimate complaint I've seen surrounds the Treadwell recruitment. Justified in my opinion. If jaylon Smith got away from our backyard, we'd be livid too.

They landed Derrick Green and a mediocre 2014 QB, so now they think they're going to get all of these great players from VA.

What a fall from grace Morris had. He is a prime example why it's sometimes better to get commitments later in the cycle. Over the last year, Morris has either been injured, sick or playing like rotten garbage in a dumpster fire. His all star game appearance was embarrassing. By far the worst play from any player in the game.
