Look at that Tom is back. This sucks guys, Harbough will have them in the top 10 annually, possibly as soon as next year.

They might be in the top 10 but its a false ranking. Jumping on Harbaughs knob.. Then they'd get railed in a bowl game against real competition.

I hope ND can get through a season without injuries stupid suspensions and crappy QB play and put something nice together. If UM blows by us I don't think I could handle it.

One thing I find absoutely fascinating is the fact that there is zero concrete information leaking out.

Looks like this is official.

Have to mark this as major setback for ND. With the resurgence of USC and USC recruiting (have already lost recruiting battles this year), OSU continuing to be elite, and now Michigan on a trajectory to be successful again, ND is staring at a crossroads. Could continue to fall out of the national picture and become irrelevant largely because of the schools around them, or make major changes to athletic approach and academics to be competitive.

Much like the other schools in the SEC West quickly realized that they needed to upgrade facilities and spend money on coaches, ND will need to take a hard look at itself to decide what direction it wants to go in. Tough to imagine we get out of the seven to nine won season cycle anytime soon unless something drastically changes.

Official? Press release somewhere?

Official. New Michigan coach.

Reportedly $8 million per year. Supposed to announce as early as Tuesday. "Nothing signed but UM confident."

I think you have to give them a little more credit than "truly mediocre". There are quite a few of those guys playing in the NFL right now. Or on rosters, at worst:

Coby Fleener (IND)
Toby Gerhart (JAX)
Stepfan Taylor (ARI)
Doug Baldwin (DEN)
Zach Ertz (PHI)
Tyler Gaffney (NE)
Chris Owusu (NYJ)

Toby Gerhart wasn't on that 12-1 team we're talking about. Stepfan Taylor was on that team, but a 5th round pick that has done nothing in the NFL isn't special. Same applies to Owusu... very mediocre player. Not bad, but not a great player.

Ertz and Gaffney were both not developed at that time. Gaffney also just isn't very good but that's neither here nor there. Ertz was a RS frosh who had 16 total catches.

Baldwin and Fleener were the lone "good" players on that offense. Baldwin is a mediocre NFL player, and for an ND comparison Will Fuller as a soph destroys his production as a senior. He went undrafted for a reason. The other leading target is Ryan Whalen who was a mediocre player (late draft picked, waived). Fleener was legit and was relatively developed that year as a junior.

So Fleener was the only regular starter on that offense who was drafted in the first two rounds. I think Michigan's corps of Darboh, Chesson, Butt, etc. is pretty darn comparable to that crop of Stanford players.

Kinda off topic, but I do find it ironic that if a coach came into Notre Dame or Michigan and went 4, 5 and 8... well, he may not get an opportunity on that fourth season.

Nothing in regards to the Harbaugh situation, but find it interesting.

I listened to Rick Neuheisel discuss this and he thinks Harbaugh will have a tougher time recruiting at scUM vs Stanford. His point is that, at Stanford; it's about identifying players that can qualify. Find all the 3-5 stars that qualify (few as they may be) and get them to sign. At scUM, his point is that he will have to compete w/ pretty much every major program for talent vs Stanford which he believes "sells iteslf". The ones that commit to Stanford are primarily sold on the Stanford degree. I'm not sure I agree w/ Neuheisel's theory but I thought it was interesting.

As far as his resume so far, he's one of the most sought after HC candidates so that should speak for itself. As much as I prefer him over Urban Meyer, Pope Urban has the better resume w/ BCS bowl wins at mid-major Utah & two NCs at UF to go along w/ an undefeated season at tOSU & a spot in the first ever CFB Playoff.

I agree w/ that first statement. The one thing ND lacks is money. I'm not calling for particular coaching changes, but whenever the next coordinator is replaced, money needs to be a non-issue. ND can't change the academic requirements. ND can't change the shitty weather. ND can't change the lack of comely coeds. BUT, ND can change the pay grades for their coaching staff. Supposedly, that was one thing that BK wanted after his flirtation w/ the NFL. Salary should never be an issue at an institution like ND that prints money.

Yes, yes it should be.

"Printing" money don't mean chit. Value is relative. A matter of Situational Ethics if you will.

Core priorities should place monetary gain, at best, in the middle of the pack.

Success in football has been and should be a goal at ND, but not an elevated goal that sublimates goals of excellence in education, justice and understanding.

It should be a reflection.

The problem I have with Bleacher Report is quotes like this:

""Jim has figured out that his style is best suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years.""

Schtick?

I struggle with this as well. Why would he reveal this information to the 49ers executives that are about to fire him? The 49ers badly want him to take the Michigan job so he doesn't go to Oakland and light up that franchise. That will make the 49ers look very bad if Harbaugh is successful in Oakland.

It will be tough to recruit against him, but at least we won't be playing him. I have a lot of respect for Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is a good coach. Wish they were on the schedule to see him lose his mind a few times a year.

Agree that he is a great coach, just don't want to see them in about 3 or 4 years.

He's gonna need a few great recruiting classes which will be tough in his 1st few years.

This class that's about to sign is a complete joke. 6 kids on ESPN.

What is the likelihood that he could poach some of our recruits? Any that you could see as a possibility?

None that are likely. Many that are "possible." Just go look at all the people in our class that picked us over Michigan.

No doubt he will struggle some until he gets his players, I imagine it will take 2 solid years of recruiting. Don't doubt that he will make the most of what he has been left though.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: Long-time #Michigan-based writer @Johnubacon is reporting tonight that Jim Harbaugh will be the next #Wolverines head coach.

@Johnubacon: I just got off the phone with more sources tonight. It's done. Jim Harbaugh is coming to Michigan - and his friends are flying in Monday.

@Johnubacon: How do I know this? From his friends who are flying in.

I think this is what his tenure hinges on. Especially if this is a temporary home until the next NFL job opens up.

And fuck the cockgobbler who put the stars in place of what I actually said.

You kiss your pimp with that mouth? All kidding aside, it's a profanity filter. No one person is responsible. We turned it off for awhile and all hell broke loose.

Can this go wrong? Maybe.

But I don't see how Michigan could have made a better hire. Congrats to them. Hopefully we meet again in the playoffs.
