No it's progressive medicine. Can we at least start this conversation by saying no health insurance, public or private, should cover this crap. Same goes for invitro - why on earth should elective procedures like these be covered by insurance? Might as well cover tattoos, BBLs, botox and piercings while we are at it. At least those have a massively smaller amount of long term complications.

Keep in mind - Medicare has $0 coverage for hearing aids but we cover self mutilation.

Look, I'm all for allowing adults to do whatever they want to their genitals. Allowing not yet developed children to make these life altering decisions is fucking evil. I don't give a fuck what the AMA says, and they are a decidedly leftist leaning organization. They advocated for removing sex designation on birth certificates.
