Reposting this because Bishop danced right over it the first time:

The Alabama sports information director, Wayne Atcheson, added five "national championships" in 1982 ...

"self-proclaimed is not the same as actually earning it." -Nick Saban to USA Today this week.

You're arguing, getting mad, and yelling FVCK OFF over a discussion about football history because someone disagrees with your opinion. Let's leave it at that and move on.

You spent a part of your Friday evening rationalizing a lost football game from fifty years ago on a website for the fans of the team that won it. Let's leave it at that and move on.

There was no national champion in 1924. Nor at any time during the 20’s and early 30’s. Notre Dame was retroactively voted #1 in 1924. And Rockne led the charge to have them named national champions some time later. I cant remember the exact timeframe however. I dont know anything much about football from that timeframe and the Irish may veru well have been the best team that year. But those on this board that argue over 1973 or 1966 or whatever year should know that their Irish claim retroactive titles no different than any other school. One could probably make arguments about 1943 as well. But to me it is really more of a waste of time. Enjoy what you have in the moment and realize it may be years before you ever see another one. If you are even lucky then. The rest is nothing more than bragging rights about a school or program that really doesn’t mean much anyway.

You're correct about 1924 with Rockne, before he died in 1930, asking Frank Dickinson who had a mathematical system for selecting a NC, evaluate. Dickinson selected ND based on his formula, using SoS. Thirty points for beating a strong team, 20 points for beating a weaker team. The only other unbeaten team in 1924 was Stanford (considered #2), who lost to ND in the Rose Bowl. Easy for Dickinson, the NCAA and any other major selector retrospectively.

I was curious about Bama's claims to 1930 and 1934, which I mentioned to Bishop.

In 1934, Minnesota was widely regarded as the best team that year, reflected in the inaugural AP poll (they then skipped 1935 and are continuous from 1936). Minnesota finished way ahead (635 pts, 50 first place votes) to #2 Stanford (468 pts, 8 1/2 first place votes) and #3 Alabama (438 pts, 5 1/2 first place votes). Alabama did not play anyone in the regular season that was ranked in the final AP poll. Minn did not go to a bowl. Minn. beat #4 Pittsburgh. Bama beat #2 Stanford in the Rose Bowl. The NCAA recognizes Minn as NC.

In 1930, it really comes down to Notre Dame and Alabama. Wash St was undefeated and Michigan had no losses but a tie. In the regular season, ND beat Northwestern (#4), USC (#6), and Army (#9). Alabama beat #10 Tennessee. (Dickinson rankings) The ND team received a ticker tape parade in Chicago on returning home after beating USC. Alabama beat Wash St, previously unbeaten, soundly in the Rose Bowl. ND did not go to a bowl. This is considered Rockne's greatest team and Wallace Wade's greatest team. From what I can tell, popular opinion was fairly overwhelming that ND was the best team that year and certainly by SoS.

I'd say Alabama is regarded as the 1925 national championship team and recognized as so by the NCAA and major selectors. In 1926 the NCAA has a tie between Alabama and Stanford. Bama had good teams through the rest of the rest of the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s with the NC drought ending in '61.

As you say, perhaps we pay too much attention to it and the numbers on the helmet. Those clearly do not bear a lot of scrutiny of the history.

I thought you didn't disagree? Because I haven't seen a counterpoint, just weak-ass shit the pretends to be a valid counterpoint.

I can move on, I just wanted you to fully understand how inadequate your talking points were and how few shits would be given if you hit the old, dusty trail.

I very much enjoy having representatives from other fan bases on the forum to engage in discussion and I'd guess I've never been anything but respectful, if not deferential to you and TTT. And I still welcome input on a number of topics ***BUT*** if you want to stay on our Notre Dame board and throw shit at our school and try to discredit past successes, which is all we've really had for a while, then you can eat a double decker sh!t sandwich and GTFO.

Wanted to say this for quit a while-today Alabama's football program speaks for itself for ON THE FIELD SUCCESS-but everyone knows why and how they do it-this coach is a good one but we would not be saying these things if he was at a school where the adm didn't give him all he needs to win. Simple as that and to the point-it is not college football. 'Here is the real message'--Alabama could win the next 10 NC's in a row and they will never be NOTRE DAME. You can call this statement arrogant or whatever you want to as an sec or Alabama fan but Alabama will never hold the place in college football lore equal to the football program at the University of Notre Dame. They are good/they are winning big today-no argument here but to the rest of the college football world and the nation Alabama will never be Notre Dame. If that irks people my apologies/if that sounds arrogant that's on you Alabama guy and sec sec sec person to deal with but you just are not in the same position of regard to the rest of the world. Enjoy the wins/enjoy the dominance of today but you are not held in the same regard as Notre Dame. My apologies for speaking the truth. By the mere fact that they show their feelings about having more NC's than Notre Dame ( by whatever count they muster up ) that comparison shows a sense of envy.

:) I won't go that far because it's kind of silly to flex about academics or anything else because this is a football/sports forum but I'm glad we still have some Irish pride around here.

Alabama has an unprecedented run right now, in recruiting and wins. I can't imagine how proud I'd be if the Irish came close to that level of success. A down year for Alabama is being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

I seriously can't wait for Saban to retire because the rest of CFB has a hell of a time stopping the juggernaut. Although a certain amount of Schadenfreude would develop should the wheels fall off for Saban & co. I'm sure you guys feel the same in regards to other programs, past or present.

Agree with ya. I love fans that will go down with the ship much more than those fans that are trying to jump on the ship when all is well. Nothing wrong with having pride, be it for the Irish, the Trojans, the Tide, or whoever.

I hated... and I mean I HATED Petey and his Trojans when they were dominating CFB. I wanted to see them taken down and didn't give a rip who did it. And I relished seeing the Trojan program struggle and get slapped around . I realize there are just as many that want to see Bama go down the same way and it will eventually happen. I can relate and don't get upset about it. As I have said many times... ride the wave for all it's got because at a certain point you're going to get wet.

Btw, Alabama just landed the number 1 K/P in the country in Will Reichard. The class they are putting together this cycle is ridiculous.

.9259 4* QB Taulia Tagovailoa
.9021 4* QB Paul Tyson
.9865 5* OL Pierce Quick
.9711 4* OL Amari Knight
.9083 4* OL Tanner Bowles
.9666 4* DL Antonio Alfano
.9225 4* DL Rashad Cheney
.9045 4* DL DJ Dale
.9628 4* LB Shane Lee
.9601 4* LB Kevin Harris
.9468 4* LB King Mwikuta
.9611 4* DB Christian Williams
.9503 4* DB Brandon Turnage
.8215 3* ST Will Reichard

They are filling up on a ton of needs and the talent is all top end players. Not surprising that Alabama is doing that given they totally revamped their staff with recruiting juggernauts and gotten after it on the trail.

Today at sec media days finebaum inteviews saban---he talks about scheduling for a bit and the message was how they aren't afraid to play anyone anywhere---what a crock, he plays one big neutral site game and three patsies to let the team catch its breath. Look this is the best program in the country but lets not let the media and saban cram too much crap down our throats about bama. I'll give you that the sec west is a tough road and now the east will be very good also but anywhere anytime is just not correct. That's Notre Dames schedule. The guy is a very good coach-best today best of all time no way no how. I'll say one thing for him when he decided to go back to college football he picked the right spot, if he was at a school that didn't let him run a minor league franchise people wouldn't be talking in these glowing over the top sappy terms. They are great today-- he's an outstanding coach but lets dial it back a bit Finebaum sec sec sec people. The guy plays you with a loaded deck and position of such power that you could not possibly judge him as todays best coach. I'd like to see him try Notre Dame's schedule and restrictions on for size--he wouldn't do any better than Kelly. Knowing what I'm sure he knows about Notre Dame he wouldn't even want the job. He knew precisely what he was doing when he accepted that job and knew that bama would let him do whatever it took to win. Very good coach-not the best of all time or even the best today.

Heard this the other day on the radio, I almost couldn't stop laughing. I would've expected this from Kentucky or West Virginia, but Bama is very fitting as well.

Another LB injury for us. This one stings a little as Lewis was coming off an exceptional spring. I do believe our LBing corp is jinxed.

He's probably tired of the Maxima anyway and would appreciate the free Mercedes.

Bitch, please. Only 3-stars get a Maxima. We got the Mercedes plant just outside of T-Town and Nick owns a Benz dealership.

In addition to Mercedes plant in T-Town and Saban's new car dealerships with Mercedes in Birmingham and in Nashville, Mercedes is a big supporter of Alabama football, sponsoring the Crimson Column on the Alabama Athletic website. Mercedes got the naming rights to the new Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta where the Falcons play and where Alabama opened last year's season against FSU. It is also where last year's NC was played. Alabama will also play Duke in 2019 and Miami in 2021 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Julio Jones, of Alabama and the Atlanta Falcons, has recently acquired a Kia and a Mazda dealership in T-Town. Saban has driven his new Mercedes impressing current Alabama players. I don't know if he does the same for recruits or if Mercedes sponsors any football scholarships and further contributions to Alabama. I am not aware that M-B contributes to Saban's salary or contract. With Trump targeting German carmakers with his tariffs, I believe Mercedes is considering all their options with increased production costs in T-Town. I imagine Saban as well as M-B are well aware of the probable increased cost in his M-B cars.

Keep making jokes, funny boy. Lord Saban knows all. You won't be laughing when you look out your window one night and see a black Benz parked out front, all your lights go out, and you get a little taste of that "Darth Vader using The Force to choke the crap out of you" thing. You don't think he's still got some Baton Rouge voodoo connections? How'd you like to wake up green with webbed feet and craving flies?
