People will forget about what he did at LSU. That program was pretty down in the 1990s. Saban was there for 5 years and won the West twice with two Sugar Bowls and a National Championship. 48-16 overall.

He made that a destination job at the turn of the Bush Gore Century. The appetizer to the main course of his career that was Alabama.

He would probably decline, but if I'm Freeman I make an offer for Saban to come speak to the team and then use his time on campus to pick his brain on the state of facilities, nutrition, practices, recruiting, etc. as much as possible. Lean on the Catholicism angle if you need to, but try to establish a friendly professional mentorship/advice swap. Saban seems like the kind of guy who would love answering smart organizational questions from a coach during his free time.

His stint with the Dolphins was the bitter intermezzo.

I actually think this could be a real thing down the road, but if the rumors are true, he has a lot figure out first

I've seen it mentioned a few places, but a lot of people think Saban is going to replace Corso on Game Day. Apparently ESPN has been pushing for it for a while.

Yeah if there's health or family issues there's probably no real shot, but I'd still float the offer out there and reissue it once a year. Guys who are built that way can't go from 120 mph to 0. They want to share their brilliance with somebody.

I wonder if he gets a look for the Pats opening if Vrabel goes somewhere else.

Kelly left MA in his mid-20s and has never been back. The "roots" story re: Boston/New England has always been overblown with him.

Pats next head coach is either Jerod Mayo (who's the odds on favorite) or Mike Vrabel. They'll interview others to comply with the Rooney Rule, but it's going to be one of those two.

I dont ever see Saban putting on head gear so he wouldn't be a full replacement.

Corso should've retired a few year back, but I can't even imagine watching Game Day with Saban. Would be like watching paint dry.
Probably, but they really need to change things up based on the small sample size I've seen recently.

I don't watch Game Day, but I saw it more this season because of ND and Corso doesn't bring much when he's there. Which isn't every weekend and he sits out of several segments on the weekends he's there. I don't know why they keep putting him out there. I found it kind of sad. It's all scripted and then he does his pick at the end.

Saban would probably be okay against the very low bar that Corso sets right now.

I replied to another poster's joke about Coach Prime awaiting Bama's call with a joke of my own and you're giving me Thursday morning lessons about college football.

I realize to the fullest extent that Alabama is not considering Deion Sanders to take Nick Saban's place. I hope this clears up any kind of confusion.
My apologies. I'll make it Wednesday next time. ;)

It just goes to show its a much harder job to be a College football head coach then it is to sit in a nice cushy seat taking millions to vote the way the special interest groups tell you too.

He made that a destination job at the turn of the Bush Gore Century. The appetizer to the main course of his career that was Alabama.
Gerry DiNardo brought a little momentum with his "bring back the magic" campaign. He prioritized Louisiana recruits and was able to create some excitement with the fanbase. Getting Kevin Faulk juiced the fanbase.

Saban then took that momentum to a whole different level. He locked down the borders of Louisiana (most importantly, NOLA — something that wasn’t done in decades) raided Houston, completely changed the culture, built the state of the art Academic Center for Student Athletes, overhauled LSU's football operations building, assembled one of the best coaching staffs ever. In short, Saban forced LSU to spend money. Take a look at this to see just how far we've come in the past 20-25 years:

Nick Saban left bowl-bound Michigan State on Tuesday for Louisiana State, a job that will nearly double his salary and make him one of the country’s top-paid coaches.

He signed a five-year contract for about $1.2 million annually, joining a select group of millionaire coaches that includes Bobby Bowden of Florida State, Steve Spurrier of Florida and Phillip Fulmer of Tennessee
