Not sure if it has been mentioned but Golden likes his place at ND, and his son is a Freshman at ND as well...i know he is very family-oriented.

Maybe Golden likes where he is and likes working for Freeman.

I also saw somewhere that he has a kid a ND and he has made the comment that he wouldn’t leave until he was done school. I will try to find it.

To play devil's advocate here, even if he flamed out in the NFL ranks as a DC, there would be no shortage of P4 teams who would hire him as a DC the following season. I think he has a good enough track record in CFB to always land on his feet at this level.
Don't disagree. But that is a lot of movement for a guy that, by most indications, doesn't want to be a HC.

Definitely, and I hope you're right and the others who say he isn't interested. I just worry the ONLY thing that might pull him is a DC gig at the highest level, but that's purely conjecture.

Seems genuinely happy here. Gets to focus on coaching good, talented kids at a special place.

Hopefully this is the case. It won't stop him from getting overtures, though. He's doing a good job and people will come calling. Could be NFL GMs for a DC job, could be ADs looking for an HC. Hard to ignore what he's been doing at ND. The results are what bring people calling.

Big bucks going to come calling for Golden. Hopefully ND can keep him.

Hopefully it has a HUGE buyout baked in.
Agreed, and I'm not sure on those kinds of details, but I don't think it's any secret that his services were in high demand this past offseason and would be yet again with the talent he had returning, yet he signed an extension to stay put, anyways.

Rumor is he's one of, if not the, highest paid defensive coordinators in the country.

Nothing to base it on, but he appears to be content at ND. Nice salary, top notch OC to make things easier. Prestigious program and he's already tasted the HC position and the migraines that go with it.

If he helps bring a national title here...do we build a giant golden statue for Al?

It’s not just that. He’s failed as a HC so he won’t be at the top of the list for the bigger jobs. They look for guys who haven’t failed yet.
And we’re paying him a G5 HC salary so he’ll avoid those jobs unless he has a burning
to be the head man again.
Funny how getting canned by Miami can help you understand why “Notre Dame is different”

I know it won't stop him from leaving if he wants to go, but I'd extend him again.

If Golden wanted to be a college head coach, he probably would be. He’s been to that rodeo before. Given he doesn’t like to recruit, I doubt all the bullshit that goes with being a P4 head coach job is really for him at this point.

Bigger risk is probably an NFL DC gig. But his son’s at ND, he can do what he wants with Freeman, and what do NFL DC gigs even pay?
